  1. What's so great about Nevada anyway? I would be much more excited for a new map where "real" operations could take place and that would open up for new scenarios.
  2. Well, I'm home now and I see the same thing as OP.... Wags profile and default are exactly the same.
  3. Placebo effect :) Now I'm curious... gonna check after work.
  4. DCS is CPU heavy and that's not because it's a badly written sim - which it is not - but because there's loads of calculations being down in areas that has nothing to do with graphics. Unlike many "simpler" games, calculations are constantly being done for movement of units, weather, instruments, flight models and much much more, and that has nothing do do with graphics and can't be done through the GPU. To be honest the Core i3 isn't a "gaming" CPU, the i3 series is on the lower end of the spectrum of the new Intel CPU's. It's most probably the CPU holding you back, in part it will be busy with the calculations mentioned above while at the same time it might not be powerful enough to get the most out of the GPU.
  5. Have you selected the profile in the drop-down list? You will have to restart the TIR program for it to detect the new profile.
  6. Not to hijack your thread, but I did "it" too :D I've had DCS on ice for a while so to speak, but I've recently become interested again, so I ordered a Warthog and the Saitek combat pedals. Never had HOTAS nor pedals before, but I've always wanted to. I just hope it's a worthwhile investment as my wallet will be feeling it for a while  :smilewink:
  7. I live near a military airfield where they regularly fly fighters and fighter sized aircraft and I have no problem locating them after I hear their engines. Different terrain could potentially have an impact on this though. But with clear sky and a good field of view it's not that hard to spot aircraft (without sound) on the sky if you continuously "scan" the sky around you, something that I imagine the crew of an AA unit would do. I know this from experience as I did my military service in a air defense regiment, during an exercise we had a squadron of JA-37 flying against us simulating attacks. I stood watching at some hills several km away when suddenly two JA-37's pop up over the crest, they were probably 3 km or more away and coming head on, but there was no problem seeing them. It was a quite strange feeling seeing them racing towards us without the slightest sound. I covered my ears when they passed overhead though :smilewink: Anyway, 2 km isn't very far.
  8. Since when is 2 km BVR?
  9. If you're going to fly in simulation mode there's no real quick start... you just need to read up on the start up and so on... or watch some vids on youtube.
  10. Once you pay you will be directed to a web page containing your serial key. Then you can just download and install the sim.
  11. Zoom = no cheat Labels = cheat
  12. Exactly.
  13. No, but then again it isn't zoomed in as much as when you get "lines". See here for horizontal lines (warning disturbing imagery) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmoghK44jdI BTW, your tone is somewhat unfriendly, had a bad day?
  14. I think we have a pretty accurate representation as it is now.
  15. Those pesky Hinds keep owning my ass whenever I go at them :ranting:
  16. Aha. Thanks!
  17. Is it possible to have a completely dark night? I have tried several different settings, but I can't seem to get it dark enough, the ground is always lit up as if glowing so there's never any need for an instrument landing for instance, the world is always lit up enough for me to see. Anyone else have this or am I alone?
  18. It is not the same thing.
  19. No one but you can tell you if it's "worth it" for you. But if this is something you want to learn, why not start now, it's not like it will be completely different in the next beta or even the release version.
  20. I don't think a present day Iraw campaign would be much fun at all tbh. Repetative missions, probably a rather limited munitions usage, no real threats.. And obviously, back in 91' it was the 'A' that was used and we have the 'C' and that war was also very one-sided, sure it was "exciting" for the real pilots there, but for a sim pilot such a campaign would probably not be as interesting. No, I'd much prefer a made up but believable and well designed present day campaign between two more balanced adversaries. It just makes for a whole lot more fun missions and scenarios.
  21. A few feet yes, but as you say within 2 truck lengths that's like 40-50 feet... Then again, the fragmentation and blast effects seem a bit under-modeled currently (and historically).
  22. The thing with laser guided bombs is that they need to be dropped in such a fashion that they can detect the reflected laser energy, preferably as soon as possible, at least for a moving target. You can't aim the laser one direction and drop off the bomb in a completely different direction and assume that it can steer to the target, the bomb won't do anything different than a regular dumb bomb unless it has the target in view and detects the reflected laser energy. That is what some people do I think, they drop the bomb so that it never (or too late) detects the reflected laser energy, and so the bomb just goes it's merry ballistic way and naturally misses by quite a bit. Unless you understand the above it's easy to jump to the conclusion that the sim is at fault as you dropped them bomb in the right time, had a lock on the target and the laser was painting it.
  23. In DCS bombs except for their fuzes seem to be non-solid objects that will pass through objects and let other objects pass through them unless something comes in contact with a fuze, then they go boom. The problem with this is that getting in contact with the fuze is much easier when you can do so from any direction, even through the bombs body. Also, the fuzes seems to be a bit too sensitive, a flare or some chaff or whatnot should hardly be enough to set of a bomb...
  24. When hypoxia sets in there should be a function that randomizes all the control input, buttons and levers to simulate "confusion", that way you couldn't just lower the altitude or put on 100% oxygen as soon as you realize what's happening.
