  1. Two heads are better than one, this statement is true. Yet comparing it to air-to-air fighter jet combat is very bad. You forget that fighters have radars, that have automated dogfight modes, that do not need any additional input from the pilot, than just maneuver the plane to have other jet in radar field of view. Ka-50 and AH-64A targeting systems are not automated, to find and lock on targets by their own! In this case a second pair of eyes and hands is very useful. If you want to compare single seated to double seated jets, than take other missions like EW, SEAD, Strike, etc. Remember that F-15Es, F-16I, Su-30, Tornado, etc. have two seats for a reason. Actually the same goes for US Navy fighters, where flying and landing is stressful enough, and the sensor modes are bit more complicated.
  2. Umm... no, the Sea Harrier is out of the service, UK Fleet Air Arm is left only with Harrier GR9, and to my knowledge, those are not operationally used from the boat after sun down. Only on training. Anyway, comparing Harrier, to 3 times heavier Super Hornet or Tomcat is a bit funny, not to mention, that those aircraft make the landing with infinitly times higher relative speed (0 kts vs 110 kts ) :smilewink:
  3. Like everywhere in military ;) I don't know about the Army, but in USAF and Navy - for the fighters - one need to have 20/20 or correctable to that standard, and only PRK is allowed - Lasik is to young technology. In Poland you need to have perfect vision, I don't know if even PRK is allowed, any trouble with sight, and the choppers are the only way to fly for you here. And by the way: There is no problem in flying with contact lenses in fighters, the older generation could be a problem, but not the new ones, they do not deform or change position during high G maneuvers, I know a guy who flew the Extra 300 and said that even at +8Gs there is no problem with them. As for melting - well in a situation when those will melt - you'll lose you eyes anyway ;) There are limits to their use though. If someone is working with chemicals, or fine dust, than it may stick to the lens, and cause problems. And putting them on and off takes some time and need a semi-sterile environment ;) BTW there is a book by W. H. Bates: "Better Eyesight Without Glasses" have some exercises, might be usefull to you.
  4. The contact lenses shouldn't be any problem, they're like an extension of the natural eye lens. I'm using those for 5 years now, there is no problem with rifle scopes, NVGs, VR helmets, etc. No additional reflexes in night like with normal glasses, you could even swim or dive in them... just don't blink too fast ;) Going for PRK or Lasik in the future though, will save some time.
  5. Forget about the default EH-101, there's something seriously wrong with it. Just added hoist to MH-53J from AlphaSim, and picking up people from water is easy, that Merlin just can't stay in one place. BTW do anyone know how to activate the sling ? Added it to the Stalion to, but it don't show after switching aircrafts, had to do a 10k lbs hoist there, just to pick up that Humvee :music_whistling:
  6. Tried that in AlphaSim Apache, the lowest gate is doable, but pulling up from the dive is a certain boom strike, not enough room for pulling up.
  7. Polish PZL W-3 Sokol (Falcon) also carries Igla AAMs but they don't actually fly with them, there is limited supply of Iglas (the system wasn't modified to use Polish made GROM missiles yet) so the launchers lay in storage. South African Denel AH-2 Rooivalk also can carry AAMs - MBDA Mistral, almost as standard equipment - its wings are specially made longer with dedicated hard points for double Mistral launchers
  8. I have some experience with VR equipment in gaming.. not flying though, and there are many issues, like very narrow field of view (less then 50* horizontal), low resolution, sometimes the screens speed etc. Although I encourage ED to implement all needed stuff into the game, in case I win the lottery and will be able to buy myself the piSight :smilewink:
  9. Ok, that's it, I'm not buying :music_whistling:
  10. The book is better :smartass:
  11. I'm a bit tired of waiting for Cygan to post anything around here, so... Mi-24 "Heavy Lifter" :smilewink:
  12. I don't know if they'll make flyable Mi-8/17 at all, but I know there's Mi-24 crew chief who look here from time to time, but can't post - have some trouble with registration, or something :) . As you see I also didn't write that part, so... I'm more wester oriented :music_whistling:
  13. Ahh, in that case, I remember someone from ED said it will be both Disc and Download available.
  14. There was no such discussion... because, it doesn't matter, there is no price difference today, and everybody have DVD drives.
  15. Robert Mason "Chickenhawk" Simply the best out there. I will soon order "Low Level Hell" by Hugh Mills, it looks to be a good read too.
  16. You have to probably look for MiG-29UB landing videos.
  17. You know, you could bribe the crew chief, get soldering iron, and modify it :music_whistling: "Whizzos" - have to remember that one :smilewink:
  18. Most technical data about the radar alone is available or can be calculated. What really is unknown is the resistance to jamming and algorithms of differentiation between target types. The thing is... those could be faked, and no one would notice, people like you or Brad, would just put thumb up or down, depending how close it would be to what you see everyday. So I don't see much problems with the FCR. The same goes for countermeasures. So that leaves the avionics as a problem, the Alpha Apache manual is available, there is everything needed for avionics operation... the Delta's probably not - if it is, than I couldn't find it.
  19. Yeah, I always carry it in the wallet... wait... what are we talking about ?
  20. Thought there is some additional training for CPG - like in case of WSOs in Air Force. Then we have most people we need, those Delta Apache, and Kiowa Warrior - crew chiefs are only problem now :smilewink: Lockheed makes the Arrowhead, but also radar jammers and is partner with the Longbow FCR.
  21. Hehehe, Bushmaster will be running across the airfield from chopper to chopper, starting them up for the less experienced simmers :megalol: Welcome, now all we need is: - AH-64D crew chief - AH-64D CPG - AH-64A CPG - OH-58D crew chief - OH-58D co-pilot ... And someone from Lockheed Martin avionics department :music_whistling:
  22. Maybe someone from ED or testers post a HV chart for Ka-50, than we'll know that for all flight situations.
  23. When helicopter manufacturers make the hight-velocity charts, they take a 2 seconds delay between the engine/s failure and pilot reaction. So you have plenty of time :) And... you don't want to go nose down, the air have to flow from underneath the rotor to power it. Just use cyclic to maintain best speed, and collective to maintain rotor rpm.
  24. No, everything is ok, everything is fine. It is an AH-64A upgraded to AH-64D
  25. hmmm... better shark teeth ? :smilewink: Looks like you got the Arrowhead M-TADS/PNVS, about time, since it was delivered for the first time in May 2005 :smilewink: Do you get TEDAC with those too ?
