  1. Another vote for "you really want to use the FFB2, particularly for helos." There will be no conflict having two joysticks connected simultaneously -- just make sure you use the "Input" tab in settings to correctly configure which axis and which buttons you want to use for every module (there's no quick way to batch-assign across modules, unfortunately). You could even use the T-flight's throttle control as collective for the helos, and the FFB2 as cyclic/rudder! My setup, like Home Fries', involves a Warthog throttle, FFB2, and CH Pro pedals.
  2. Did you enable "allow 3rd party apps" in Oculus Home? (under settings -- forget where exactly, don't have a PC with 1.3 SDK handy)
  3. If your soldering iron makes sparks, you're doing something wrong. Good luck with your build!
  4. Hey just wanted to give a shout-out to the devs and to jweisner for this -- works like a charm! Now if only I could figure out how to do voice recognition for the ground crew portions of startup... (I assume the answer is Voice Attack but I've never done it before).
  5. ... of course I missed the obvious thread. Herp derp. Mods, please close/delete this.
  6. Is anyone working on lua for the Warthog's throttle switches (particularly flaps (either boat or china hat I guess?) and speedbrakes on the grip, and the lift-over detents for coming out of idle)? I can work on it, but no sense replicating effort if someone's already doing it.
  7. If you want to semi-permanently reset it, you can bring up the Steam Overlay (hit the menu button on either hand controller) and use 'recenter seated view' button, which is in the lower right corner of the overlay.
  8. The only review I've seen with actual numbers so far is from Ars Technical UK. Looks like the contemporary AAA titles are running around 40-50 FPS with all graphical settings maxed out. DCS tends to be CPU-limited, so I suspect if you're getting good performance now at a lower resolution, a card upgrade ought to allow you to maintain similar-ish performance at higher res?
  9. I voted no -- DCS already has a lot of light attack birds in the hangar, and I have very limited interest in this particular platform (it's not famous in my media, I haven't read about its exploits, etc -- but maybe there are interesting stories I should learn about?). Compared to the Tucano, it's a twin with a slightly heavier payload, but .. meh? DCS modeling of infantry combat isn't particularly interesting, so I can't imagine missions in this really grabbing me.
  10. You may also need to do seated VR setup -- press the system button on the right hand controller, then, from the SteamVR overlay, there's a "recenter seated mode" button. I don't remember where it is right now exactly but it's in there. Look in the docs you got with the Vive, it's described there too!
  11. I've totally retired my Cougar stick base so I'm not really interested in the upgrade for the base, but I'd love to get some more life out of the throttle. If you work up a mount for the throttle quadrant at a reasonable price, I'm most likely in. Hell, if you're willing to sell a single board, I can probably bodge up my own mount on the 3d printer. Edit: Hell, at $25/unit, I'll just buy a kit and not use the other half. :P
  12. pappavis, where'd you find a PCB mill with pick-and-place for $3k? That seems wildly, wildly underpriced relative to the market. An old used pick-and-place without reels can go for upwards of $5k USD, and that's just a pick-and-place that will need expensive pcb reels to operate, and no PCB mill.
  13. For whatever it's worth, I would be very interested in contributing here too. I've been mulling over a similar approach to dynamic campaign stuff in DCSW, but never had the energy to actually start coding (I write software for work, so, finding the energy to code for fun can be a challenge). As far as hosting, what about github/bitbucket? In any case, as both a dev and a DCS user I am looking forward to seeing what evolves here!
  14. What CPU and GPU are you playing on? Thanks to the way OVR's headtracking library works, plus the high-refresh rate displays, anything <75fps judders.
  15. I purchased one of Sahaj's extensions (20cm aluminum) about a year ago and can 100% vouch for the quality. I mean, it's a machined hunk of aluminum, not terribly much can go wrong, but it's well-made and does exactly what's promised. A+ would purchase again.
  16. A lot of rumors suggest nVidia will be releasing a new generation of video cards in 2016 (Pascal architecture-based). I'm personally waiting for this before considering upgrades to my personal rig -- the 980TI is great but at this point it's almost two years old.
  17. I think TrackIR vs. OpenTrack/FTNoIR/Freetrack is really a question of money vs. time. If you want to pay $130 US or so, open a box, plug something in, and have it work, go with TrackIR 100%. If money's tight and you have DIY skills, you can build a tracked object for cheap and use a PS3Eye webcam + IR-pass filter with OpenTrack for probably about 30% of that (assuming you already have some basic electronics tools). It's a bit fiddly to get right, but I've used variants for 4-5 years and had good luck.
  18. 1) TARGET is software that allows you to configure the HOTAS to simulate keypresses with button presses. I have owned a Warthog for over a year and never used it. It's much easier to just bind the buttons in the sim these days (and the A-10C module configures itself automatically when it detects a Warthog throttle or stick connected). Don't worry too much about Target -- worry about input.lua :D 2) I think this is totally subjective. If you've got $400 to spend and want the best consumer HOTAS (leaving aside stuff that costs >$1k), I'd say it's worth it. If you don't have $400 to spend, then, well, there's a lot of other options that are also pretty good. Also, the stick goes on sale every now and then -- I think I got mine for ~$350 USD during a newegg sale last year. 3) This is a HUGE question. It's big and heavy and expensive, and getting the most out of it in modules other than A-10C will require a bit of lua programming. The SPI slew control on the throttle is a bit janky compared to the physical mini-stick TM used on the Cougar. It's solid and sturdy and feels awesome. What are you looking for in particular?
  19. They are fully compatible. The Cougar stick does not have a push-in button on the CMS, but is otherwise the same stick with the same electrical interface.
  20. It might be worth reaching out to Ben Heckendorn -- he's done a lot of work in modifying game controllers to support people with limited use of their hands. This use case might interest him -- don't know how he got connected with the people he did work for in the past.
  21. Hey Zahry, what's your experience of focus with those short throw projectors and the curved screen? Seems like you'd be likely to have some or all of it out of focus in order to get any given vertical slice in focus, but it looks like it's not too visible in that context.
  22. I personally run 3x 24" 16:10 monitors in portrait for a combined 3600x1920 resolution. The portrait setup is not as wide as triple landscape, but it has one huge advantage: angular resolution. My "monitor" is about the same size as a 40" diagonal single display, but has almost twice the resolution of a 1080p display in both dimensions. The displays I use would cost about $1000 new today (I paid a bit more because the center monitor is about 8 years old, and was more expensive at that time), which compares favorably with a even a 32" 4k display (currently $1800 through Dell). There are bezels, but truthfully they're easy to ignore after a while.
  23. Thanks, Hans!
  24. Inspired by the currently-running X-55 mounting suggestions post: I just purchased a 20cm warthog extension, which feels about right when the top of the stick base is level with the top of my desk chair cushion. I'm not planning to build an ACES seat or anything similar in the short term, so I figure I'm down to cutting a wooden box, weighting the bottom, and screwing the WH base (cylindrical part) onto it. Has anyone built up anything like this? Care to share photos? I'm going to be designing in CAD to laser-cut, but inspiration is always helpful.
  25. That looks awesome. Where did you source the double-needle VID steppers? I keep poking around online for them and coming up empty in quantities <1000.
