range for ideal landing distance/altitudes/loads
Hueyman replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: UH-1H
I don't understand why this cause so much trouble since the early beginning .... Just keep a very cool smooth approach, not going below 40 IAS and -500ft/min max, then try to keep those 40 IAS as long as you can ... then, during final flare, add SIMULTANEOUSLY collective and rudder, in perfect proportions, so you'll even not enter into that unwanted condition, and moreover, will do a very nice and smooth transition without altering your trajectorie ... But to answer your question, no I am not aware of such charts. Good luck -
Sadly, Sally B is nothing but a mix of several versions ... If my memories are correct, it is genuinly a -G model, that was quick convert to an -F for the movie Memphis Belle ( I love this movie as well as its soundtrack ! ). Now can't find exact version ... anyway, -F and -G were pretty close ... except the differencies everyone knows, I don't know what was changed deeply in the systems ... same engines, same wide chord " paddle blades " Hamitlon Standard propellers... the -F was actually the fastest of all the B-17s, as the absence of chin turret reduced the drag a fait ammount ... Would love to hear what they plan ;-) Cheers, Valentin

So now, what are the news related to the B-17 ? I don't know if the choice is made already or not, but why not going for the -F version ? So under covered in simulation ... A2A Accusim is a -G model, and the old great sim B-17II : The Mighty 8th is also a -G... -F is the Memphis Belle, and did a great job also over Europe and the Pacific ! I particularly love it's nose windscreen shape and the absence of chin turret

Hello all, All your work is really nice looking, hats off ! Would you know if it would be possible to change the main rotor texture a little bit, for the blurred blade effet looks more accurate ? You see here after blade root " arm ", the real airfoil start to take shape, while on the virtual texture it's barely visible, could it be edited to mimic the real blade ? It is there but so lightly it gives the impression we don't know in which direction the rotor turns, and the blade looks as thin as the root " arm " Thanks

Nothing special for the Mi-8, but in my Huey flights I had a very long playlist that I downloaded from Tour Of Duty ( all seasons ), with all the classics of the 60's-70's ... I played it in random mode and the flight was so awesome then ... For the Mi-8, I'll really have to find some Red Army songs, or simply ex-CCCP ones ... in the meantime I love to listen to the bunch of STALKER guitar songs ( small guitar licks played by the STALKERS around campfires , very nostalgic to that great game ,now )

A little real-life Mi-8 action
Hueyman replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Merci Skull ! Cheers everyone -
A little real-life Mi-8 action
Hueyman replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
@ badger66 , lorenzoj and msalama Thanks for your kind words ! Sadly I got my results and no, I won't be in that part of the Army ... Here in France all three " weapons " got helicopters : the ALAT ( Aviation Légère de l'Armée de Terre, US Marines equivalent), the Marine Natinale ( the equivalent of your USN yankees ) and the Armée de l'Air ( USAF equivalent ... ) So I failed the ALAT for mysterious reasons ( good point, it's not a medical one ;-) ) and I signed for the Marine Nationale exams now in the months to come ... The primary differences between those 3 weapons, as well as the 4th ( Gendarmerie Nationale ) is the type of mission The ALAT got Gazelles, Pumas, Super Pumas, Cougar, Caracal ( EC725 ), NH90 Caïman, EC665 Tiger, AS555 Fenec, Pilatus PC-6 and TBM 700 and does primarily ground attack missions, troop support and troop transport, as well as observation The Marine Nationale got Westland Lynx, Dauphin/Panther, NH90 Caïman, Alouette III, Super Frelon ( getting old yeah ^^ ) and for fixed wing they got the Super Etendard Modernised and the excellent Rafale M ... as long as E2C Hawkeye, Falcon, ATL2 etc ... Their missions, for helicopters, are mainly public service help ( SaR, narcotraffic repression, antisubmarine missions, commandos transport etc ) The Armée de l'Air got all major fighters ( Mirage 2000-5, -C,-D,-N ( Nuclear, ASMP ) ... Rafale, Mirage F1, Alpha Jet and many others ... and only the AS555 Fenec ( twin turbine Ecureuil ) and EC725 Caracal, and their missions are mostly VIP transport and politicals protection etc Here it is, the quick summary of our forces ;-) I had one chance in the ALAT ( chance used ... ), three in the Marine Nationale and one in the Armée de l'Air ... The year will be busy ahah ! Selections are very hard in peace time, for the ALAT statistic showed 5% to 8% those years ;-( very low Thanks for your interest and sorry for the off topic ... -
Does the sim even know when you are in clouds or not ? It may be only 3D display, like the trees are, but may not be taken into account during physic calculation isn't it ?

11 Pictures of Abandoned Russian Mi-8...
Hueyman replied to Skulleader's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Ok thanks ! I ( sadly ) only saw a Mi-8 twice in my little life, Once in Greece, seeing one over the see ( I was about 3kms from it so hard to tell details ... ) and the other one at Dakar, Senegal, making a high speed low pass just over my uncle house... I was impressed, hearing the " rotating scissor " since around 30 seconds before realizing a Mi-8 was diving on me ^^ I always said that the Mi-8 sound is a mix between an Ecureuil ( AS-350 ) and something bigger and heavier ... the flap flap of the main rotor blades are around the same, as the 350 got three blades but spin faster than the slow 192 nominal RRPM of the Mi-8 5 blade rotor system ... and the tail rotor, same explanation, what do you think about the sound ( even if yes, it is distinctive, I never heard two helos got so close sound ... ) -

Thanks for the correction, I admit I'm not a Mi-8 expert and that windshield bugged me ^^ Ok so this is a AMTSh, I must remember lol And a question : are there many common points with the good old Mi-8 and the new one from Russian Helicopters ( can't even remember the name ) ? -

It is a Mi-171 ... look at that windshield -
Yeah guys ... I want an OH-58A, a BO-105, a Tiger, an SA330 Puma, a Mi-24, an OH-6 Cayuse, a CH-34, an AH-1 Cobra ( any versions except the latest ) In other words, I want everything except a fixed wing aircraft ;-( ;-( ;-( I'm sure next project is already decided and even in advanced state, but It seems I'm not the only one here who wants another heli, and after this one another again and again ...
-
Absolument l'ami  We want same things to be added/improved !
-
Hey Hoot ! How are you ? ;-) ( and youre Mi-8 ) ^^
-
The possibility to have a NAKED MI-8 !!!! Like the Slick Huey, without weapon pods, and even a version without cargo doors at all ...
-
Yes W1ndy I'm ( if all goes well ) about to be, thanks ! But I have no pretention to say if it's right or not ( I bought it but as I'm waiting for my graphic card to come back from the repair shop, I didn't flew it yet ) But the Huey feels truly awesome yeah ! All side effects from such a helicopter are presents ... side thrust of tail rotor, roll moment due to the tail rotor offset ( in respect of roll axis, the tail rotor isn't ON that axis, but higher, due to the tail fin, making the whole chopper roll right a little bit for example when applying left pedal and vice versa ). And I'm sure the Mi-8 will do the job perfectly also ! The only thing I can criticize about Huey is what I described on the dedicated " Mast Orientation " thread.... really nothing more :smartass: @A16 : Okay but the Mi-8 is larger than the Huey isn't it ? so, considering the blade chords are even only 1cm less, as the ship is larger ... it looks like thin blades... like the Hughes 500D 5 blade rotor system, which as also very thin blades... like the Hughes 300 etc etc ... I'm not an aeronautic engineer at all, but I realised a while ago that generally, the more blade, the thinner ... ( in respect of global rotor size of course ) Take the Bell 214 ... then the Hughes 500

It's because the idle stop is implemented but not functionnal yet ... ( weird I know ) As you said, IRL, it would shut the fuel supply and so cut off the Turbine ... So just roll the turbine to Idle with the twist grip, and let your one way bearing do the rest :-)
-
It's also related to the head geometry ... The fully articulated rotor of the Mi-8, with it's 5 thin blades compared to the two bladed semi rigid teetering rotor with wide chord blades of the Huey realy define their own flight behaviors, there is not only the weight and SAS

Waiting for first discount on DCS: Mi-8MTV2
Hueyman replied to captainteemo's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I just hope it won't hurt Belsimtek too much ... but hard to believe, seing a price being reduced by 70% even not one month after release !!! The risk as Eurofor said is that it will kill the company, and the Mi-8 will be their last product ... I hope I'm wrong !! But maybe selling it let's say 34$ for a long time without sales would have been more productive ... -
Cliffs or DCS ... damage model are both so amazing so ^^

The B-17, mainly from the 8th Air Force bomber group, were all based in southern England ... Memphis Belle's base was Bassingourn, and all bomber groups took off from England... Here in France, we didn't have any heavy bomber on our homeland, sadly ... The B-17 destroyed a part of my own city ( train station ), as well as most of coastal cities ( Royan etc ) My grand parents can remember that and in some villages nearby, we can still find some B-17 parts, among other WWII plane parts, taken from wrecks ... There wasn't only Normandy that saw the white star flying over ;-)

How many of you regularly fly medium/heavy bombers?
Hueyman replied to Geronimo989's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Some years ago, I dreamed about a DCS-Quality B-17 as I dreamed for a Huey years before it was announced by Belsimtek ... I'm a seasonned sim-bomber pilot, from B-17 II : The Mighty 8th, with Il-2 flyable 17s ( with mods ) through A2A Accusim B-17G for FS If this one comes out ( while I'd rather go for an -F version, ala Memphis Belle ), I truly think there is very nice potential with the maps to come ! You know, boxes of 16 ships at 35 000 ft aren't so easy to stop, even with Long Noses etc ... and the level of details put in every DCS product until now guarantee us some really accurate simulation, with inclueded complex engine management, historical navigation, crew/guns management, etc ... with all the detailed damage model we are used to since Black Shark Really looking forward to it guys, will pledge 150 as soon as I can, for sure :smartass: -
Yes yes ... just wanted to make sure myself with the latest official document available, up to date, directly from Bell ... so there is no doubt about the truth of this info Now that it's proven every ways it could be, you're true, we have to wait ..
-
Same here, ready to pay 150$ for the B-17 It is my all time favorite aircraft, along with the Huey and the PC-6 But I would rather prefer the B-17F ( Memphis Belle era ... ) Anyway, this idea is really interesting, I tried to spread it on other forums but people are so pessimistic ;-(
