How to adjust return-to-center delay in UH-1H Huey?
Hueyman replied to EinsteinEP's topic in DCS: UH-1H
I'm also interested, 1 sec sounds good, how to do it ? -
Excessive airframe rocking on engine runup?
Hueyman replied to Baggy MacDouche's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Guys, the fact is, as it is modelled now, the Huey airframe+rotor seems to be one solid single piece... In a real Huey ( not a Huey pilot at all but a Hueyfan for many years, having just flown in one once ), let's take the idea the skids are always firmly on the ground, due to the ship's weight, but the landing gear struts are kinda flexible. During startup ( and shutdown ), when the main rotor goes through a particular RPM range, all seems to wobble inside the ship, folling a blade that seems heavier than the other one... That is just a dynamic effect, and will even happen when the blades are 0,00001g difference ... Anyway, just wanted to say the fuselage was rocking a bit around its skid struts, but would never dance from one skid to another like it does now. I agree with those that said it's ridiculous, I know there are better ways to simulate this. Once again ( and sorry to always take that example but it's the best ) in the Bell 206 for X-Plane, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLdVxoaHXog notice how the smooth shakes are done during startup, I think this is the right way. The guy decided to make the whole fuselage section moves a bit around skids, making a very realistic and nice effect of twists/shaking of the whole helicopter, not the entire helicopter, skids inclueded, dancing from one skid to another .. Also, dunno if you can notice on this video, the semi-rigid tilting rotor system is balancing on stop, like the real ones in a calm wind day, that also improve immersion I think, our Huey has always it's rotor well locked 90° to the shaft... -
:-), I love reading your experience Flyer49, keep'em flowing ! I have a very good friend who was in the ALAT, then FI then a great civilian career in off-shore business totalising a bit more than 18 000 hours now on various machines ( Bell 47, Alouette II&III, Dauphin,Piasecki H-21 Banana, Gazelle, Bell 206, Hughes 300, Puma, Lama, Ecureuil and many more that I forgot ... ) Each time he come eat at home, I really love to hear all his stories from all around the world, from Africa to America, through his military career here in France ... So I love to read also stories of similar character from overseas ;-) Thanks for your input

THANKS ! Really glad for you, you really do a super job, I'm sure many of us are jealous ;-) Take care dude, and come back home in one piece

That is truly amazing to know all these draws were made by hand ! And I know what I'm talking about, it was the job of my grandfather, in the precision mechanic industry. A16, how did you succeed to access such things, did you worked with MiL ? Really interesting, thanks for that and keep 'em flowing !

Dudes, you really want the developper to spend dozens of hour of 3D modelling for damage as well as much coding for you clearly see how well the blades cut the tail boom, then throw into various shrapnells, the crew being shaken inside the cabin for a second due to huge rotor imbalance ... This has really nothing to do in this flight sim, it's not a crash test simulation ... More evident things such the rotor being canted backward ( as it shouldn't, or even cant forward ) would be more visually accurate
-
Really love reading that kind of things ... I wish ( and strongly believe ) Belsimtek has all available documentation to make their Mi-8 simulation as accurate as possible, and I trust them for that ;-)

Dev field trip to record Mi-8MTV2 audio for DCS!

Thank you very much for your answer Pilot ! -
Dev field trip to record Mi-8MTV2 audio for DCS!
Hueyman replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Really really nice, and glad you share that with us Just a question : Were the Huey sound done the same way or... mostly synthesized ? While I obviously recognize the Huey sound in sim, I heard two 205 A-1 ( from Pompiers du Var, the only two 205 here in France ) some days ago and was impressed on how slow and heavy the whoop whoop of the main blades was. Heavy and slow I'm sure these Mi-8 sounds will just sound like the real beast, thank you bazillion times for that -
+1 I must admit sometime I rather shut off pc and do some sports, because the whole PC thingy just don't want to work that day ... internet freeze after a bunch of pages opened, Blender too, my sim as well ... Sometimes, the Warthog is even out of recognition, so I have to unplug and plug it and sometimes even restart PC ... Hoeprfully, that is due to my crappy PC ( that will be changed very soon ), but I'm deeply convinced it will still be there, a part of the fun !

Dude, I can assure you with that, you won't go much further ;-) No worries, I'm sure you would say 320 MR and 6700 TR ... but this is still problematic ... I think the correct RPMs are 324 for the Main Rotor, and considering the 1:5,5 gear ratio between MR and TR, 1782 RPM for the Tail Rotor Cheers, Hueyman

Really nice two videos mate ! Loved watching them from beginning to end ;-) Just wish we have real DCS : Edge Vietnam coming out. No newws about Edge for a while now... It's obvious the good old Caucasus won't fit any more latest add ons ...

I hope EB-1 you mean here you will definitely make the rotor disc tilting forward at neutral cyclic, make blades a bit less " round dropped " and also reduce if ever possible the huge coarse pitch visual we have now. Other than that, your list get around pretty much all " drawbacks " now, will make it the ultimate perfect Huey simulation, thanks for everything ! Hueyman

Yeah ! H-34 Choctow in FMJ ... But it was " urban " fights Hueys in some Magnum PI episodes, where there are flashbacks when Terry still was pilot in Vietnam, as well as OH-58A Yes, Tour Of Duty obviously ! But mainly UH-1C I believe, don't have any memories of seeing slicks or so. Mc Kay was a nice guy I think ;-)
-
+1 too ! I'm sure if it works well, we'll see many skilled people launching in the adventure ! Hope EB-1 will be authorized to answer us

In Air America, love all the Huey scenes with Mel Gibson By the way, if one of you wants to mount that stick on your Warthog, here is the very rare part, the cyclic grip that Robert Downey Jr ( now Iron Man ;-( ... ) and Gibson held during the movie >>> http://www.icollector.com/Mel-Gibson-and-Robert-Downey-Jr-Huey-helicopter-Cyclic-control-stick-from-Air-America_i8632712

and me to the top It's a Huey simulation, not a Huey-based software that accommodate to the gamers
-
I have the Warthog and have same pedals you have, just the combat version ( useless for heli ) I just removed the spring... and decreased the wheel on the middle to max, so I have really free movements, it's the best for helis
-
Yeah that's true the Spectrue is a true beast ! As well as C-17 and other big guys. And many perspective of big workload ( radio operator, radar, navigation, on-board engineer etc etc ... ) And DCS being very professional in all it's application I'm sure it would be a big winner

Wondering, now we have the Huey and incoming Mi-8, it seems the simulator is changing direction a bit toward the real aspect of war... Not only fighters and bombers, destroying everything, but the war aspect with intelligence, logistic, electronic war, AWACS etc etc ... I would be very pleased to see new module starting like : The A400M, C-130 Hercule,An-24/26,C-27J Spartan, C160 Transall, Il-76 etc etc ... I imagine some transport/para drop missions, starting near the shorelines airports and climbing high over mountain for some commando dropping etc etc Knowing some of these in other sims ( Captain Sim C-130 on FSX, An-24 from Felis on X-Plane ) they are very entertaining and immersive to fly, with very complex and large systems/engine management etc ( countless switches... all of them very useful ! ) http://www.checksix-forums.com/gallerie/displayimage.php?album=182&pos=24 What do you think ?

For next update ( or final release ) I wish : This to be corrected : the red lines are showing the actual mast/rotor attitude at neutral, rotor stopped, and in green how it should be. In real, it isn't fixed position of course as the teetering rotor is tilting up and down as it wants, but this virtual attitude always backward is really hurting the overall appearance.
-
Yeah And it isn't as coarse as : http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/9455/screen130528203305.jpg Sorry
-
So EB-1, don't want to be annoying but will the main mast will be canted forward a little bit a drop of blades corrected and visual pitch reduced for the final release ?
-
Hehe that dude is funny. I'm 100% with you Tailstrike, but as you stated, such " heavy on polygons " model can't be used in motion applications, it's just for nice renders or maybe in high budget movies... Our problem here aren't the Huey isn't detailed enough, but just some shape/spaces/sizes etc not spot on, that can be corrected without increasing any further the poly count. For instance, some parts are really well done, smooth, round etc while the main blade are squared in their " droop " Don't worry Robert, you're the most clever, nice, human and skilled moron I ever seen on any forums, just go on like this and you'll become a rockstar, for sure.
