I just got a shipping notification that my $599 regular version Reverb shipped from Amazon. Any thoughts on if this will be a "fixed" version?
-
Ya quite disappointing. I seriously thought it was going to have the 2160x2160 panels. Look's like Reverb will be "the" VR headset for 2019, maybe even 2020 (until Pimax 8K-X).
-
Well I think I am getting screwed by pre-ordering with Amazon. Friend ordered from the HP store (US) the "pro" model and just got his shipping notification. I think all of the Reverb's are going to the "pro" edition and those of us that ordered the consumer edition are getting shafted. Anyone else order with Amazon and sticking with it? I may have to order from ShopBLT as a backup. Amazon has been getting worse and worse with high end electronics.
-
Ya, buying/testing the latest and greatest hardware is a hobby of mine. I keep the best item and sell the rest.
-
Ya I have both on order too. I also have a Pimax 8K-X kickstarter and I just heard they are putting in full RGB stripe dual 4K panels in it. I will be awash with VR headsets!
-
These Reverb reviews are pretty stellar. Wonder if I should cancel my Index order.
-
Eh? No Index vs Reverb. Thats the real comparison.
-
Wow the Reverb looks fantastic in that video. Almost tempted to cancel my Index order since I already have my Reverb pre-ordered. But then again I am on the first Index shipment so I could probably sell it at a nice profit if the Reverb wins out (as I suspected it will).
-
Good thing I got my first batch Index order in. I'll still be buying the Reverb though when it eventually comes out. That clarity will make it #1. Why so many buying the Rift S with that potato resolution at 80 Hz? That's the least impressive HMD out of them all.
-
Ya this was a total sham "paper launch". I bet their production department isn't talking to the marketing department.
-
lol one guy subjectively testing the XTAL is just amazing "evidence". Yet completely ignore objective FACTS like very low 70 Hz, 2560x1440 panels with woeful pentile matrix and an ancient DP 1.2 connection for 5K Euros. And I'm sure slow 70 Hz on the XTAL feels like 1000 Hz because of "lenses and stuff". I guess there's a sucker born every minute. XTAl clarity versus an old 1080p original Vive. "Meh".
-
Every VR HMD has compromises. I'm not sure why they are harping on the Reverb clarity blurring in the periphery. Every VR headset does that. That's why just like in real life you do most viewing or "looking" using your neck, not moving your eyes large angles off to the side.
-
I don't believe it. Good lenses can't magically make 2560x1440 pentile look super clear. The 5K+ I have has true RGB 2560x1440 and it leaves a lot to be desired. You cannot alter physics. And for a device for 5K Euro to be using an old slow DP 1.2 connection is near criminal. Who is paying 5K Euro on a HMD to run with a mid-range GPU? Even me with the worlds fastest single GPU (RTX Titan at 2175 MHz/water cooled) wouldn't consider it. It will be interesting to see how my GPU copes with the Index at 144 Hz and the Reverb's high resolution.
-
I'm sure the lenses are sweet, but pentile pixels+woeful 70 Hz in a heavy bulky HMD for 5 thousand euro's is insane. I certainly wouldn't buy one at least until the 9.3 mil RGB pixels at 90 Hz small/lightweight Reverb for 1/9th the price reviews come out.
-
I've already pre-ordered both but no idea when they will arrive. IMO the 2x resolution of the Reverb is going to easily make it the winner.
-
Oh the Xtal isn't using the RGB OLED's from the StarVR but uses garbage pentile? I wouldn't touch the Xtal with a ten foot pole, especially at a garbage 70 Hz, let alone for $5K+.
-
You obviously have no idea how cameras and eyes work. If you objectively test different VR headsets with the same camera, same camera settings, same distance/focal point from the central point of the lens, the images can be very useful. As they have proven to be. The Reverb has objectively wrecked the other headsets in the comparison, just as its specs would imply.
-
lol what nonsense are you prattling on about. The Reverb has over twice the resolution of the Vive Pro/Odyssey+ and objectively will be way clearer and have far less anti-aliasing. Has nothing to do with "snake oil pictures". And no, your eyes won't "See something completely different". Resolution is resolution. And on top of all that, the Reverb gets yet another clarity boost by having RGB sub-pixels versus the competitions crap pentile'esque ones.
-
Sorry 2560x1440 displays don't cut it anymore. I have that in my Pimax 5K+ and the clarity leaves much to be desired. Especially considering those pixels are spread over a wide FoV, definitely not worth the money they are asking. Even if they are RGB OLED panels. For $599, you can get a headset (HP Reverb) with two million more pixels than the XTAL.

Ya but I think it is a decent trade-off to have the best HMD working with the best controller tracking.
-
You need lighthouses for the tracking right? So the tracking occurs using the lighthouses. How the controllers send the tracking information for that statement is irrelevant. You obviously didn't watch the video.
-
The HP Reverb would still track the headset movement with its two WMR cameras. The SteamVR controllers would be tracked through the lighthouses. I regret buying into the Pimax. I bought the 8K-X which appears to have disappeared. In the interim, I got a 5K+ as a loaner that is broken. When it was working, it wasn't as impressive as I thought it would be. Resolution is too low for such a large FOV. Ya but they lose all of the people that owned the original Rift by coming out with another Gen 1 VR headset. As a original Rift owner, as soon as I saw the pathetic low Rift S resolution I wrote it off instantly. Correct, the full kit is ~$/€ 80 cheaper. Two lighthouses alone cost $/€300.
-
I snagged the Index controllers to replace the crappy Vive Pro controllers. I already have the 2.0 lighthouses from my Vive Pro kit. HMD will be the superior Reverb.
-
Ya, when they first released the initial specs on the Index as using an old/slow Displayport 1.2 connection, I knew it was not going to be good. I will be using the Reverb with the new Index controllers and lighthouses. So the best HMD + the best controllers/tracking.
