I pulled the trigger and ordered the $950 option
Callsign.Vega replied to streakeagle's topic in Winwing
Good god man, that keyboard from 1987? :smilewink: -
Ya but at what resolution? Up-scaling can look very bad.

IMO after purchasing the Index and returning it, it's the most over-rated VR headset out there. Easily lost out to my modified Vive Pro with Odyssey+ OLED panels and Gear lenses. As a 8KX backer, I have one coming in July with the foveated rendering add-on. I also have the G2 Reverb on pre-order. So I will be battling these two against my modified Vive Pro. I think the low 75 Hz of the 8KX may bother me; IMO I would say the G2 Reverb may have a slight lead based off of specs for my usage.

NVIDIA Titan RTX any reviews for DCS?
Callsign.Vega replied to Nascar's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've had a RTX Titan since it came out. The only way the extra VRAM helps is if your current card is maxed out. -
I get my 8KX in July. Should be interesting.

FPS limiters and Track-IR performance
Callsign.Vega replied to bandit648's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Anyone ever find out if you can overclock the TrackIR? I'd like higher than 120 FPS/Hz to match a higher refresh rate on my monitor. Right now I have DCS FPS capped/locked at 120 to make TrackIR 5 smooth but would prefer higher. -
Get Samsung B-Die RAM. Good RAM is all about finding the highest frequency with the lowest timings and then tweaking in BIOS. https://benzhaomin.github.io/bdiefinder/ B-Die 3600MHz at CL14 is about the best you can get. Can overclock it to 3800-4000 MHz if you're good.

I'm the same. VR was cool for a little bit, but it also has huge negatives. High refresh wide-screen with TrackIR over VR for me.

Should WINWING sell HOTAS seperately???

This poll is really a nail biter! -
There is a lot more to it than simply saying 60 PPD (20/20 vision) is all you need for a display. I just turned 40, and as a pilot I get a military flight physical every year. I am tested at 20/15. That is 80 PPD, which almost doubles the distance from that 8K screen viewing distance to 31.4 inches. Not to mention, motion and contrast matter a lot too. The human eye can resolve motion irreegularities on solid lines such as the below in access of 300 PPD: https://testufo.com/aliasing-visibility#foreground=000000&background=ffffff&antialiasing=0&thickness=1 And on top of that, high contrast scenarios like seeing a star in a dark night sky can result in over half a million PPD. On another note, screen refresh is also a key component. Lifelike virtual reality requires 1000+ Hz: https://blurbusters.com/blur-busters-law-amazing-journey-to-future-1000hz-displays-with-blurfree-sample-and-hold/

I think you are confused. Simply enabling SLI in the NVIDIA control panel has nothing to do with SLI actually running in a game or VR... VR SLI has to be specifically implemented in the game. I am like 100% positive this has not happened for DCS. You could also download and install MSI Afterburner and Riva Tuner Statistics Server to check GPU utilization. I would bet money on only one of your GPUs being utilized inside DCS VR.

One reason I returned the Reverb, I hate inside out tracking. Never as good tracking and always needing bright lights on at night.
-
Reverb if you have more normal IPD around 60-65 which is like 70% of people. My IPD of 68.2 is a bit too much for the fixed Reverb. I await the Reverb 2.0 which unless they are insane, will have a physical IPD adjustment.

I always buy the fastest video card. Well everything really. ;) My RTX Titan overclocked on average comes to 11% faster than my overclocked 2080Ti, both water cooled. My Titan is also shunt modded and can pull over 400 watts of p0wa!
-
SLI is dead. No one will support it. It's a shame too, as VR with two different displays is almost made for two GPUs. I would largely disagree. As someone who has been playing high refresh sims/games for a large portion of my life where motion clarity is paramount, nothing can compete with real frames. Frame interpolation adds lag and visual artifacts. On the Valve Index, I can easily notice the bump in real frames from 90 to 120. Going down to 45 FPS frame interpolated/smoothed to 90 feels absolutely terrible in comparison.

Ah, very recent news. For some reason I thought the StarVR was using the same 2560x1440 OLED panels as the Xtal. But reading the specs, they are only 1,830 x 1,464 panels. Not impressive at all. Plus the StarVR one still uses Fresnel lenses, which is the least preferable. For an expected price of $3K+, may as well pony up an extra $2K and get the real deal (Xtal) with higher resolution and top optics.

I haven't found anything that works nearly as well as TrackIR 5 with a three point IR transmitter. And you don't need a bright room either...

IMO Pedular pedals in which the pedals move directly fore/aft (Ie: real aircraft) like the Thrustmaster Pendular Rudders pedals are superior to central pivot rudder pedals like Slaw or Crosswind in which your feet move laterally in addition to longitudinally. But that's just me...

VPC MongoosT-50CM2 Throttle Reviews?
Callsign.Vega replied to Foul Ole Ron's topic in VIRPIL Controls
It's ok for WWII sims, but no afterburner detent = no go. -
I thought StarVR was dead? https://bit-tech.net/news/tech/peripherals/starbreezes-starvr-cancels-developer-programme/1/ Anyone want to sell me an XTal? ;)

Has there been any word on fixing the VR performance in 2.5.6? Or what has caused the performance issues?
-
My problem is I've been a high speed gamer for most of my life playing at 120+ FPS/Hz. SO it's hard to go back to something like 45 FPS-motion smoothed. It's super noticeable to me how it doesn't feel right. :( Especially when I come out of VR after playing something like Half Life Alyx in which I can run 100% maxed out graphics at 90 FPS and it's so smooth and epic. Your brain gets used to that smoothness.
-
Ya I don't know how people play on 45 FPS that is motioned smooth.. it feels TERRIBLE. For my VR has to be 90 FPS/Hz or higher. And then on top of it you have to turn DCS graphics down to minecraft level quality... on my 4K OLED I have all graphics besides SSAA maxed and it looks gorgeous.
