  1. Anyone else use an OLED display for flight sim's? Been testing my 55" Curved 4K OLED, it look's incredible and the immersion is off the chart... Some comparison shot's with the new 34" curved LCD:
  2. Whats' funny is most women these days wouldn't think twice about spending $357 on a pair of shoes that don't have any more usefulness than a $50 pair.
  3. Really, all of those aircraft will be PFM/ASM? I guess that is what I am interested in. Currently the only aircraft that are full PFM/ASM are A-10C/KA-50/P-51D (fixed wing). Since I fly helicopters for a living I'm not too interested in them, prefer more air-air combat for my "simming". Very good post. Seem's we are on the same page. I just think it kinda odd that when I was 12 years old playing Falcon 3.0 I had an immersive dynamic world/campaign scenario and over twenty years later most sims can't/don't do it. Scripted missions don't "do" it for me. The world seems a bit too "clinical". The world, the war, etc all go into a great flight sim. A professional flight model and cockpit are only but a part of a great sim.
  4. Hey guys, been a few years since I checked in. Just looking for a state of the sim. There were two big deal breakers for me that didn't make me pursue DCS products. (Although I've purchased many to support DCS and making flight sims in general). The lack of a dynamic campaign and the ability for all types of weapons to pass through structures and trees etc unimpeded. I really don't care for canned mission type sims. Has any progress been made on either of those two fronts? Thanks!
  5. I agree on the X65F. It's the best HOTAS IMO if you like force sensing. I like it so much I just bought an almost new one on Ebay for $305 as a backup to my current one. You can still find one if you are patient. X65F is also going to be the best HOTAS for Star Citizen IMO.
  6. Oh gosh 1080p is a horribly low resolution.
  7. Since 30 Hz really isn't playable, and now that the NVIDIA 9xx series are out with HDMI 2.0, we should really see 4K kick off at 60 Hz! Been thinking about one of the curved Samsung 4K's. Should be amazing for flight sims!
  8. Rift doesn't have high enough resolution yet for flight sim's.
  9. Thanks for the info! Sounds like there is a better future for DCS. I haven't played in a few years as the same map and very clinical missions, just adding new aircraft hasn't "done" it for me. I find a good sim is about the whole world/battlefield experience, not just flipping switches in a new aircraft. P51 and F86 over Georgia? ;)
  10. Checking in, any word on theaters other than Georgia and a dynamic campaign?
  11. Trying to set up FaceTrackNoIR with a PS Eye. I've got the latest CL driver installed and the latest FaceTrackNoIR installed as of this posting. A few things I am confused about. When I launch CL-Eye Test I set the frame limit to the maximum 125 Hz which works fine and is super fast/smooth in CL-Eye Test. But when I go into FaceTrackNoIR, I hit start and it begins at 125 Hz and then quickly falls to 56 Hz every time and stays stuck there at 56 FPS/ Hz. Any idea why that could be? I have a 5 GHz 3960X so I know CPU isn't the problem. Also, when I get to the step "select Fake TrackIR" under game protocol, it's not there. All I have is Flight Gear, FS, FreeTrack 2.0, FaceTrackNoIR, Mouse Look, FSX, and VJoy. I installed the full install of FaceTrackNoIR, is the Fake TrackIR protocol something that needs to be installed separate and is it needed? Thanks for any help!
  12. Ya, it's kinda silly flying an attack heli nap of the earth and getting shot through tree's. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of terrain flight.
  13. I definitely am looking forward to purchasing a 1080P consumer version, but I heard not until 2014 now?
  14. Flim, I haven't tried the Rift but I have tried the Sony HMZ-T1 which has similar resolution to the Rift developer kit. Unless you are referring to the 1080P version that was at E3? 1280x800 is simply and mechanically too low of a resolution for an immersive display. There is no way around that. The HMZ-T1 was like wearing a torture device. I surely hope the Rift is more comfortable. But I do think people are over exaggerating the usefulness of a VR headset is. I don't care who you are, strapping a huge, heavy ski mask display on your face for 3+ hours at a time during a long gaming session will be much less comfortable than sitting in your chair viewing a monitor with your head free. Being able to see and hear your normal surroundings and let your eyes focus in and out once and awhile to relax them is underrated. I am sure the Rift is immensely impressive the first five minutes you wear it. What happens after 3 hours and your neck is tired, the pressure makes nice red gouges in your skin, itching etc. Is the thing counterweighted? I wear NVG's in the aircraft I fly and I dislike it very much due to all of the aforementioned issues. I really look forward to trying out the consumer Rift. Will I think it will replace desktop monitors altogether? No, especially not with 4K arriving. EDIT: Here the developer even says the 1080P version has a screen door effect: If they come out with a 1440P or higher version down the road, now that would really be impressive.
  15. Anyone else besides me favor other sims like Falcon 4 BMS that have Dynamic campaigns over DCS? I could never really "get into" DCS with scripted missions. I buy the DCS aircraft to support ED, but the world seems very clinical and static. And missiles etc going through tree's, another immersion killer.
  16. I don't think the transition will be that fast. Remember the dev kit is an extremely woeful 1280x800 resolution. The consumer version is suppose to have 1920x1080P. While better, I have my doubts about how well that will look when it's all up in your face. You have to generally use a lot of AA etc in order not to see jaggies with 1080P. Remember, 1080P is the bottom of the barrel in current computer monitors. Hopefully the company is successful and it will lead to 2560x1440 and higher VR headsets. That would be much more impressive and immersive.
  17. Heya, jumping back into flight sims now that 4K monitors are coming out. If you had to start from scratch and had a decent budget, which flight control path would you go with for jets (force sensing)? Buy a lightly used Cougar and add: Cougar Stick: FSSB R2 Throttle: Cubpilot HS1 Throttle Hall sensor UTM Bushings Aluminum Speed brake/dogfight switches (Anything else to make a top of the line Cougar throttle?) -Or- Buy a lightly used Cougar and add: Stick: Warthog solo stick FSSB R3 Cougar Throttle: Cubpilot HS1 Throttle Hall sensor UTM Bushings Aluminum Speed brake/dogfight switches -Or- Buy a full Warthog kit + FSSB R3 and be done with it using stock Warthog throttle? I understand that the solo Warthog stick can be used with the FSSB R3 via Target, but the Cougar throttle would need to be plugged into the Cougar joystick somewhere off to the side, which then plugs into the computer and runs via Foxy? Any issues with the above config on Windows 7 or 8? What else could be done to a Cougar throttle to make it "tops"? Anyone run the stock Warthog throttle and find it find for jets in general? Any other suggestions for a great HOTAS setup? Since these setups are fairly pricey, I'd like to get it done right the first time. Would your answer change if it wasn't just 100% for force sensing HOTAS jets, but primarily with a few other sim titles tossed in? Pedals: I understand that Simped's are not made anymore. What would be the next best thing, Saitek PRO Flight Combat Rudder Pedals? Any programming issues with the above HOTAS combos?
  18. It is a 4 video card setup in SLI. All monitors use DVI-D. One monitor attaches to each card down the line. SLI card number 4, the third physical card in a row, has no monitor attached. Resolution in DCS is 5080x2560 (bezel corrected).
  19. For those that are interested in knowing, SLI and nVidia Surround are working spectacular. Below is a video of Quad-SLI running A-10C on 3x 30" displays. But this simulator is a video memory hog! :D Please let me know if you have any questions about the video. Make sure to watch 720p.
  20. How in the world is this simulator running so great in the release version? It's over like 2x the performance as any of the beta's! I am getting over 50FPS in cockpit and 70+ FPS external views on 3x 30" monitors with every in-game setting max and 4x AA. Unbelievable! :D SLI works marvelous in this game as my GPUs are maxed out. System: 990x OC'd @ 4.6Ghz, Quad-SLI 3GB GTX580s. At my resolution A-10C uses 2.6GB VRAM.
  21. Was one of the first things I did. Did you guys split the account? I've always used this user name, the same as the forum here. I also have A-10C beta forum access under this account, so why would the software show under some other account?
  22. I've done everything listed under the Payment and Activation forum to try and resolve this issue. My issue is that problems like this shouldn't happen so frequently and with such little care for the customer. Companies get off way too easy these days.
  23. Support ticket issued.
  24. Where is the A_10C beta activation key. Under order history it says I have not made any orders yet I have purchased BS and A-10C months ago.
  25. I hope with them adding a Vsync option they will add a triple-buffering option too.
