  1. Does it feel like cheating? That is what I want to avoid...
  2. They say summer, so really means fall. I've been waiting almost three years for my 8K-X, with a 5K+ (which is terrible) loaner sitting in my closet for the last year. I used that loaner like five times and the case is already cracked, how pathetic. My desire for the 8K-X that I backed has dropped considerably seeing as they went all the way down to 75 Hz... The original 8K-X that I backed during the kickstarter was supposed to have two DP 1.4 cables and run at 90 Hz. I may just end up selling it and wait for the Reverb 2.0.
  3. Interesting. I would be curious to see the number of people who have nice 4K TV's (especially OLEDs) like our vs VR preference numbers. I would suspect those that prefer VR for long term would be not nearly as lopsided as say those (majority?) of people that came from flying on small computer LCD monitors that went to VR. The latter does really suck.
  4. All good points guys, thinking of getting another Reverb... interesting thoughts on the more recent "Revision" of the Reverb from Amazon. Is this actually proven or just speculation? As for the difficulty of spotting airplanes during dog-fighting, that is kinda a huge deal considering how that is a big part of flying DCS planes!
  5. Ah cool. No, never heard of it. Purchasing now.
  6. Yup! All cores at 5.4 GHz. I don't do that single fast core nonsense. ;) Ya I have my finger hovering over the buy button for another Reverb... I wonder if the 8K-X will just be too much for DCS for quite a while.
  7. 1. Even though the FPS is interpolated from 90 to 45 FPS drops (motion smoothing), I think it screws with my brain because it's still not as smooth/natural feeling as the real 90 FPS. I have a Vive Pro which has OLED panels, so it should have less ghosting than LCD panels. Not really getting any stuttering, I did all the "VR tweaks" I could. Like I said in VR, DCS seems to be CPU limited and not GPU limited. I do hate turning down graphics settings cause it looks SO good on my 4K OLED with TrackIR. Another down-side to VR I forgot to mention, less graphics quality... 2. Oh cool what do you fly? I am Army over in Saudi Arabia teaching them how to fly my aircraft (Blackhawk). I am worried that VR could actually make the beginnings of arthritis in my neck (according to flight surgeon) even worse after all those NVG hours. You think it could help? I think I may give the HP Reverb a go again because it is a little bit lighter and less bulky than my Vive Pro. But then again my Pimax 8K-X is due in the summer... 5. Oh on a nice big 4K screen I think definitely easier to see enemy planes. I of course play with labels off as that is immersion killing. I do tweaking to the umpteenth degree and have been building some of the worlds fastest gaming computers for about a decade and a half. Stuff like this: My current highly overclocked PC is a 5.4 GHz 9900K and a modified RTX Titan running at 2175 MHz. All liquid cooled obviously. Do you remember how the motion blur of the Reverb LCD is compared to the OLED panels in the Vive Pro? I'm wondering if I would regret getting another HP Reverb or if I should just wait for my Pimax 8K-X to come in. There is no special super tower computer that would run DCS faster in VR. It's the single main thread speed limit that is the problem. So something like my very fast CPU is going to run the game the fastest out of anything in the world, commercial or not. Oh on a last note, is anyone coming from using something like a large gorgeous 4K TV like my LG OLED into VR? The large OLED 4K TV is pretty amazing, the cockpit is almost life-sized instruments in front of you. I only ask as obviously if you've only played DCS on a computer monitor before; VR is going to blow it out of the water. Now going from a large gorgeous TV, I think the VR "upgrade" may be a much smaller feeling upgrade.
  8. Interesting comments. Do you by chance have any sources? I've noticed that with my 5.4 GHz 9900K, the CPU is still the bottleneck in DCS VR for me. My RTX Titan is usually only being used 50-60% and I STILL get FPS drops from 90 to 45.
  9. I had a Reverb and honestly I wasn't that impressed. It wasn't nearly as large of an image clarity/quality increase as I was expecting. And the image contrast and colors were very flat with those cheap LCD panels. That and also the inferior inside out tracking combined with needing bright lights on during the night so the HMD can track properly, I sent it back. I really need an Xtal..
  10. I finally got around to trying DCS with my Vive Pro that I modified with non-Fresnel lenses and displays I swapped in from an Odyssey+ that have the SDE minimization film on the OLED panels. When I first started playing, that feeling of being "in" the cockpit was truly amazing and jaw dropping. After a while though, does the honeymoon end? I swapped back to my really nice TrackIR5 and 55" 4K OLED setup and some huge deficiencies of DCS VR became apparent: 1. The constant swapping from 90 FPS to 45 FPS even on my EXTREMELY powerful PC got on my nerves. 2. With VR being 1:1, having to completely turn my head around to check my six is tiresome. Being a real military helicopter pilot, I'm no longer 25 anymore and it wears on my already well worn neck. Having like the 1:2 head turn of TrackIR is a nice relief. 3. Being able to see the real world, controls/keyboard/mouse, look out the window has its benefits. Less eye strain with regular setup. 4. How hard it is to read dials and gauges in VR. 5. How incredible hard it is to spot aircraft and keep track of them in VR. I just think that VR isn't mature enough clarity/performance wise for me, even having THE fastest gear on the market. I feel like my regular setup makes me more competitive and wears on me less, even though some of the "WoW" factors is removed. Anyone else experience a diminished DCS VR Honeymoon?
  11. Disregard, I fixed it. Apparently the mod: DCS VR Shaders 2.5.6 (ICpass) Was messing up my game and it's fixed now.
  12. Not sure what happened, but now every time I try and do a second mission, the game gets stuck all the way at the very last second (very end of blue bar that says loading world 1/60) before I get in cockpit. The blue bar fully fills up... says "Please wait.." and then hangs. Then I have to CTR ALT DEL and kill the process. What is weird is every time I start the game from scratch, it works fine for one mission. Only the second mission where I hop in a cockpit it gets stuck. 2.5.6. Any thoughts?
  13. Yes I love your Kos grip. Now I just need that VKB throttle. :megalol:
  14. It's like I am sitting in/viewing out of a fish bowl. The center of the image seems far away and the edges like the cockpit mirrors are super close. Very disorienting. Like the zoom is somehow messed up. But not affecting other DCS aircraft. What the heck?
  15. Notice the F-14 cockpit when using my TrackIR5 is warping and stretching the image on the edges, very strange. Almost like some sort of barrel distortion. It doesn't do that with the F-16 in DCS. Has anyone else noticed this?
  16. I'm the same and find the Kosmosima the best "all around" grip for many different uses/aircraft, not just space sims.
  17. I have both. VKB all the way. IMO better design and quality across the board than Virpil.
  18. I had to go with a Warthog throttle as I await the VKB throttle. I was considering the Virpil throttle but no afterburner detents prevented me with going ahead.
  19. I was curious about the aluminum vs steel too. In what world is aluminum stronger/more resistant than steel? Trying to decide if I should upgrade my late model (Kosmosima) MK.II with the MK.III upgrade kit or not...
  20. Ya at least the F_16 throttle, that would be awesome.
  21. So have to buy the whole game over again for basically a patch...
  22. I'm not much of a F/A-18 fan, but I'd purchase day 1 for a WINWING F-16 HOTAS. ;)
  23. Does this not work? If not, why is it still on the website?
  24. Ya I don't want to switch grips either. That's why I want an all around grip that can handle F-14/F-16 and later some Star Citizen. I think dual Kosmosima's with a throttle on the left would handle everything well. I decided to go with the TM warthog throttle with the slew mod and afterburner detent mod for a few reasons: 1. Virpil T-50 CM2 doesn't have AB detent which really seems like a strange design decision. 2. May not be able to grab one with their strange "1 minute to order" sales tactics. 3. The Virpil throttle looks a little more "gamery" than the more "business" look of the TM. I still may try and get the Virpil to do an A/B comparison against the modded Warthog throttle. Not like I would have a problem selling it! The VKB throttle also looks really special, but it looks like people have been looking forward to that for years.
  25. Ah thanks for the tips, you are the only one! I do like the Kosmosima, it feels very good in the hand. You think it's worth upgrading my VKB MKII base to MKIII? I always seem to buy stuff right before a new model comes out... For throttle I was leaning towards the Virpil T-50 CM2 Version 3 throttle, but they may not be in stock for quite a while. I had a Warthog before, I don't remember the throttle being that comfortable but I don't mind the modding that is required to get it up to snuff. If you had to pick between the two, would you just get and mod a Warthog throttle or hold out longer for the Virpil throttle?
