  1. I need a tablet...I've got about 30 pdfs in a folder (and subs) on my desktop. Well, I DID just buy new ink cartridges.... SIGH. And thanks. I saw that link, but thought it was mostly just tech info, not tactics or technique. I did just order the gulf war hogs book. WARNING: the 'a10a guide' in the above link just tried to install malware. Might want to remove it, mods.
  2. After trying one of the easy missions more than a few times (defend yankee base) and having some difficulty, I have a few questions. I've seen a decent mission youtube vid where 'anchor here' was used. This seemed to be a 'standoff' rally position, as it was about 10-15 miles from where the targets were. Does the wingman actually circle that point until directed otherwise? As mentioned regarding standoff, is this a usual technique? I googled 'anchor standoff CAS' but found zero info. Are there any basic CAS technique tutorials anywhere? I think I got the idea that what I was doing is wrong (in the yankee base mission, flying to base, then trying to find targets when I'm on top of them), but would like to find some reading/tubes of proper setup and execution.
  3. Anyone have a copy of this mission they'd be willing to send my way? I loaded it up in mission editor and accidentally hit 'save' instead of 'open' (ED, think we could move that?) after deleting parts of it. I'm still trying to get a handle of finding targets on the fly and this is a good beginning mission. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  4. AC-130 Spectre, in case it hasn't been mentioned. :-)
  5. I believe the 'training' is what DCS setup for it's own missions. You could try going to either 'missions' or 'mission editor' and seeing if they show up. You should also be able to browse to wherever you saved them. This is one thing I've found a bit confusing in DCS. Missions seemed to be a bit scattered and takes a bit of effort to organize. For instance, I have all 'my documents' on d: but for some reason DCS keeps saving missions and tracks on c:.../users
  6. a few t72 with high skill level. Started with t55s, then moved up to t72s. Need to add a couple more t72s and keep practicing. Only 3 in this track, but I used last 50 rounds to get last tank. I also ran out of flares. But at least now I'm using them. decent tank run.trk
  7. My JTAC was apparently using a handheld IR pointer. I'd have figured it would eminate from the optics pod :)
  8. Just think, if you saw that IRL. Also, instead of a roaring peal of thunder AFTER, you hear an odd in-rushing of sound, getting louder and louder BEFORE and then...silence.
  9. So long as they don't include a 'bubble slider', I'm good.
  10. I looked through, initially, and didn't see what I was looking for. After going back, I see that in the mission editor, the vehicls are prefaced with a type-designation (apc, atgm, etc) whereas in the encyclopedia it just lists the name. And I even found the bus (Zil manufacture not Ural).
  11. Is there a list anywhere that describes the objects you can use in the Mission Editor? The encyclopedia is useful but far from complete, with regards to the map items you can add. As an example, I added several "ural" vehicles, and it turns out one is a box truck, one is open flat-bed 'early model' type of truck and one was a big bus. Any kind of visual listing anywhere or will we just have to add them and see what they are? Most are pretty obvious but when they're are several with very similar names, I have no idea what those are.
  12. What controls are you using? If using stick/hotas, make sure any sliders/dials/whatever are centered prior to AP release. This exact thing happened to me, but I found my Rudders were still turned (from a previously aborted taxiing mission).
  13. One thing I've found is that FAC doesn't think much of our 'tank killer'. I set up a Kiowa IR pointing a set of IFVs. No problem, works great. Change those IFVs to T55s and "No tasking available" though I've got 4 IR Mavs and 4 Mk82AIR.
  14. Just set up a quick mission using Kiowa for FAC at night. Reading the comments about having to be close, I set it up about 1K from a few IFVs. It took off and orbited them at 2K+ feet and several klicks out. They continued their orbit and sparkled the whole time. It was quite cool to see. Edit: made a slight mod to my original mission. Now I have it set for the Kiowa to mark a moving truck on a road. Only this time, the 9-line said 'no mark'. Went from type 2 (IR mark stationary IFVs) to type 3 (moving truck on road). Does the IR pointer/marker not work on moving vehicles?
  15. Then they obviously didn't NEED CAS; anyone hear someone crying "wolf"? :)
  16. Rainmaker's post are Hilarious! Why? 'Cause I work in an industry that uses VERY expensive equipment (semiconductor manufacturing.) And pretty much w/o fail (see what I did there?), the more expensive that machine is, the more likely it is to fail. I work with millions of dollars' worth of equipment daily, most of them are crap. Not all, but most. They ALL have something wrong with them, but unless it's a) critical to the outcome of what's going in or b) I'm just seriously annoyed with clearing ANOTHER damn alarm, we just deal with it. Doesn't sound to much different than what Rainmaker describes. :)
  17. The "\" doesn't seem to work. That appears to be a 'generic' command key. for contacting the jtac on your vhf radio (fm or am, depends on which one you used to set up the freq.), use Left ALT + NumPad+ for VHF1 (AM?) and Left SHIFT + NumPad- for VHF2 (FM?). I figured this out because I kept using the \ key (I think it's for simple comms only) to contact my wingman and he wouldn't respond. I found I had to use Left ALT + NumPad- for UHF radio.
  18. Being an avid reader, back in the early/mid-90s, I had read a few novels about the a10 warthog. There was a series of a few books but for the life of me I can't remember the names or author(s). I'd swear one of them was something along the lines BLAH BLAH BLAH #2: HOGS GOING DEEP or something like that. When I last moved, I had to get rid of about 6 boxes of books (out of 18) just to make room. I think some of those books I wish I still had now. Anyone got a list? Amazon was NOT helpful :/ NM: Gah I'm an idiot. Just found them! http://www.amazon.com/Going-Deep-Hogs-James-Ferro/dp/0425168565/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1313574515&sr=1-1
  19. I figure I'll be doing things like this for a while. Even though indicators are RIGHT there, I still forget what is SOI and end up changing waypoints instead of zooming in/out TGP
  20. Don't yet have a checklist for my hotas, but I'm getting there. I've only had this sim a few days, but I'm getting back into the swing of SIMming. Heh, for Longbow2, I mad a laminated grid-map I could use with wipe-away markers. Drew out my flight map for each flight. Still have the manually printed manual here on the shelf. I'll get there yet! Next item on the list is absolutely a head tracker (will try the face/webcam tracker, but trackir is on the wishlist)
  21. Reading through the manual, they present a pretty detailed procedure for pre-flight/start. In the ramp start tutorial, you don't do any of that. Is there ever a case when doing a ramp start, some of those switches, dials, etc. in random positions? I've already discovered I need to pre-flight my hotas: started a tutorial, was in autopilot; when ap shut off, plane went sideways in a hurry. didn't know what the hell was wrong until I ESC'd. Found I had my rudder turned full due to forgetting to reset after landing and taxiing. Would be interesting to start up a ramp start and find a random switch here and there in the wrong location.
  22. I've had this happen once. Couldn't figure it out. I had numbers 4.0.0.8 but no 'ins ready' and could not turn on EAC. What would be the way to back out of this procedure to get it to work? Turn off CDU, then start from there?
  23. question as to clearing 'cicu input error'. I was following the dms training mission. I was supposed to enter '3' on the ufc then enter that into the ripple fire settings for rockets. I hit the osb first (was zoomed in, didn't see the flashing icon on the ufc). There was the 'cicu input error' flashing on the hud. Try as I might, I couldn't make it go away and I couldn't enter '3'. What would be the correct way of dealing with this?
