  1. Lynx, when you see that splash, the missile is actually hitting and hurting. It's a visual bug only.
  2. That takes a load of my mind, Kuky. (A highly unnecessary load that could be easily fixed by ED showing us their internal bugtracker!) Cheers.
  3. I have only had this bug in program mode, and it is either inconsistent or partially-fixed by new patches.
  4. Was this in program mode? Try strafing him again with the gun pods in fixed position and see what happens.
  5. Furthermore, my cockpit language is Russian for the Su-25T, but RWR and trim indicator lights are still English. So is the map on my pilot's knee.
  6. The splash you see is just a visual bug. Damage is still done. The simplistic health model of ships requires lots of hits to sink them, so many that Harpoons are practically ineffective. And both Kh-31 variants have slightly smaller warheads than the Harpoon. AFAIK there is also no reduction of effectiveness for damaged ships, when hitting them with an ARM should knock out radars and make them unable to use certain weapons at the very least.
  7. Yeah, I can't for the life of me lock choppers under ideal conditions, no matter what I do.
  8. Rather than simply moving my thread, I would have appreciated some confirmation that this is actually a bug, and not just a disappointing feature of the English-version of the game. In the latter case, this would be more a feature request than a bug report. I posted it in the main forum so other people could report on their situation. I know damn well that in here the question will be ignored.
  9. Hold on a minute. Ripple Quantity is broken all the hell to me at the moment. Some say the bug has been reported and acknowledged, now Kuky says it works fine. Who am I to believe? A game this buggy simply can't function without a community issue tracker. Otherwise all the community's efforts (and we ARE the QA team) are wasted in the chaos.
  10. Does a simple terrain engine really need that many cores? Processing trees separately from buildings would just be silly. Even AAA games don't take full advantage of multiple cores because coding it is a royal pain in the ass. And we're talking about the devs who let explosion FX from 1998 drop gaming computers down to single-digit FPS. Just saying.
  11. Newb questions: Is 6DOF workable without TrackIR? Will the new cockpit be likely to hog system resources?
  12. Just limit yourself to a single Vikhr and there's no need to get within the engagement zone of even a Strela-10. Altitude isn't a good defense in my opinion because most of your weapons are ineffective at that height. There's no way to be accurate with bombs and rockets from up there, and you've got no place to hide if there are SAMs or bandits. That tail-mounted IR jammer is practically magical, too.
  13. One of the recent patches had something about making sure that Betty was in the correct language for the proper aircraft, so language seems to be in ED's mind. They have a ways to go, however. I have the cockpit language set to Russian for my Su-25T, but there is still English all over the place. I speak Russian just fine, so it is really annoying. The Hud is Russian, as is most of the cockpit but I still have English in a number of places, such as: *The threat identifiers on my RWR *The trim indicator lights *The list of airfields on my pilot's right leg Shouldn't at least the first two items change to Russian along with the Hud? It's highly inconsistent and confusing when I see letters on the Beryoza and I don't know what language the acronym is supposed to be in.
  14. Why Melnyk? Besides the fact that he just died, the Soviet government would often choose (usually deserving) people to become symbolic of a larger effort. PR heroes or figureheads. But it goes without saying that Soviet society rarely erred on the side of individual credit (Stalin/Lenin aside) and always stressed the collective nature of any struggle or achievement.
  15. Is Su-25T ripple quantity broken for anyone else? It affects bombs.
  16. Then they're not 1.2.5 bugs and the devs are already aware of them. And you're just nagging, based on a past record of posting. ...unless a dev who is not familiar with you reads the post, in which case he has no idea what you're talking about because you haven't provided any information. A bug report without details is useless, and referring to already-known bugs here is just off-topic.
  17. Just leave the forum if you're determined to be useless. Details...?
  18. It's right what the interviewee says, clearly. Almost all those vehicles are missing their side skirts. Also, notice the applique armor on the T-72's turret.
  19. The current DCS engine is crippled, as you well know. You could make a beautiful TANK in DCS, but you could never actually fight in it. The game world is essentially a featureless plain. There isn't a single bump in the terrain that isn't a huge five-poly mountain, and the trees are just 2D sprites that the AI sees and shoots through. There is no promise to ever fix this, even though it has been destroying the game's flagship heli title for years and years. You NEED to have a complex gameworld to provide the battlefield with enough clutter and cover, and size is a necessary sacrifice to accomplish this. The part of warfare where you drive hundreds of kilometers towards the front is painfully boring and will never be simulated by human drivers in any sim that ever sees that light of day. You know that, and you're just wanking all over the forum with your talk of scale realism. You just can't have an entertainment product where an entire ground element does nothing but drive in a straight line as targets for the fly-boys. I won't even mention the DCS engine's shitty particle effects that somehow reduce high end computers to 2fps or how the engine couldn't even use scripts until recently. DCS is hopelessly unequipped for anything resembling ground combat. Unless that tank is just a glorified chess piece for the airwar and macro strategy elements, you can forget it. It will never happen. Drooling over the square footage of a map is pointless when it's all dead potential. How come I've never seen a MP map with a grand war on it? Nothing much bigger than some ArmA missions, really. Then engine can't handle much in the way of AI, even AI that does almost nothing. You might as well say that TES: Daggerfall is the perfect game for tank simulation because its map is the size of England. By the way, how big are Steel Beasts maps? ArmA could match them at ease if the requisite sacrifices in terrain detail were made. Best to leave the game as an infantry simulator (it earns that title with the right mods), though. DCS is never going anywhere below 5 meters of altitude, though. The community says it wants it, but they don't really. You should have seen how they fight whenever you bring up the idiotic tree issue.
  20. Shockwave and shrapnel are the only ways explosive weapons actually kill people.

    Battlefield 4

    Edit: Wrong thread.
  22. It's not that. The explosions look like crap and are dramatically less complex-looking than any other game released in the last 10 years. There's no tradeoff. They're just plain bad. Engine limitation, maybe?
  23. L.O.L That very biggest explosion in DCS uses about about 0.00001% of the processing power of the graphics card your dad played Pong on. ED are just bewilderingly, almost supernaturally bad at making particle effects.
  24. Not having any particular degree of knowledge in this field, I'll still post the question: How can the race between stealth and detection be the only match-up in the history of military technology where the rhetorical shield is forever and absolutely mightier than the sword? Won't some sort of radar inevitably be developed to negate current stealth technology?
