  1. I guess what ever works for you, but in reality and in my experience in the sim, it was not done and not needed. I would look more at your controls set up first, as I find the jet is actually pretty stable.....
  2. EDit!! So I discovered that if I bind the UHF radio button, to my HOTAS ( did not have this before) it brings up the comms menu. And of course, then I can contact the tanker.....its not clear as the controls options do not say that the key has the radio menu attached to it...... Genuinely mystified as I have been using the canned modules for refueling that came with the module for 4 days to practice and contacted the tanker by simply bringing up the comms menu using the / command bound to one of my HOTAS buttons- thats it! Obviously the radios were pre tuned in these so I never had to manually tune or mess with the preset buttons. So no idea how that has changed..... Thank you so much for helping solve the mystery! Well, the mystery of before and now remains, but at least now I can get back to using the tanker.
  3. Hi, thanks Razor, the strange thing is I am not doing anything different from yesterday, when it was all working fine. The F4 does not have a binding for each radio PTT button that also brings up the corresponding comm menu....so the only way to contact the tanker is to make sure you have the correct channel selected, then get the comm menu up and select the tanker. Yes? This is what I was doing before and worked, no problem. Is that how you were doing it? How are you using a PTT button ? I have tried using Jester to select the tanker radio. Makes no difference...
  4. Yeah, since an update in the last few months, I noticed that in all modules, there is an increased time to load teh cockpit textures, tied I guess, to the change noted above. However, it is always much longer in the F4, and varies hugely across missions and theatres, which must be related to the module.......
  5. Thanks, but the switch position seems to make no difference, it was working fine with the default position before as well.....
  6. This is a strange one, as everything was fine yesterday,,,,,,today, i cannot get the tanker to respond to me in ANY scenarios, including the 2 refueling missions that came with the module ( Nevada & PG) and my own mission ( Syria) . Radios are all set correctly ( Tanker, KC135 is set at 250 mhz in all cases) and just to test, in my mission, i also included an F15SE behind the same tanker, using the same pre set frq ( 250mhz), which had no trouble getting the tanker to respond. I swapped role straightaway to the F4 and nada.....included a track. What could possibly cause this? tank.trk
  7. HI, as title, I am finding huge variations in time taken to load all the cockpit and map textures. It can vary within the same mission and theatre on different days. In rare cases, the cockpit textures have not loaded even after 5 or 6 minutes........ Why is this? I have a decent card with 24GB Vram, and a powerful system,,,,, I dont understand the apparent randomness of it and the variation...... Any ideas?
  8. I know the accepted wisdom on this is that you should use glasses or lenses if you are long sighted - short sighted is not a factor. I have to wear glasses for reading as well as at long distance, although my prescription is not massive, I have astigmatism . I use 3 different prescriptions, one for close up reading like books or iPad, one for mid distance, around 4 - 5 feet, for PC screens on a desk and then there is my long distance one. I can fit glasses easily under my quest pro and have tried them all, without any noticeable improvement in what I see. Yet apparently I should be using them. In the past with my old G2 headset, I got some lenses which were supposed to be optimised for about 6 foot focal length, but again, I never felt they helped. I don’t have a noticeably bad visual experience, looks pretty damn good, but I wonder why I don’t get a better experience using glasses? Anyone got any input on this ?
  9. You have got your answer before my added question and I politely tacked a little fairly relevant extra query on the end to avoid spamming the board. I then posted a thanks when this was answered. Did the query after the thanks really derail your thread ? . I think not. @Nam....I agree, the lights are quite dim, but be careful, there is probably a thread already discussing that somewhere......
  10. Thanks.....I wonder how easy it would be to mod the MPRS to work as it should? Seeing as ED plainly cant be bothered!
  11. Hope you dont mind me tacking this query on the end .......saves opening a new thread......It's only the KC135 that can refuel the Phantom currently isnt it? I made a mission using an MPRS and it wont respond....
  12. OK, so the guage will register full (11,00lbs?) and then you would carry on filling and when tanks are full, the canopy bow lights illuminate. Correct? Do they only illuminate when tanks are being used?
  13. Can I follow up with another query, once the internal guage registers full, how do you know when the tanks are topped off, if carried?
  14. So I run a Rhino and I know the accepted wisdom is not to use any curves as it will mess with the coded FFB....is this the case with the F4 ? I would like to introduce a little less sensitivity in the centre for more precision when re fueling......but I dont want to mess anything up that I should not be......
  15. Thanks, was expecting Jester to talk me on!
  16. Hi, I tried this yesterday ( to the tanker) but got no noticeable cues or voice directions from Jester, - how does this work? Thanks
  17. I see! Thank you! Although, you did not answer the first question ? Does it vary for a set amount currently or are times mentioned in the manual for minimum and maximum loads? Thanks again
  18. Starting to get to grips with this work of art and it really is amazing. Artwork and flight model set a new bar, great to see FFB effects so well implemented, the manual in cockpit is awesome, love the grease pencil feature (shame it is not visible from the outside, but I can see how complicated that would be). Here is my list of things I think could be improved: Better readability of cockpit instruments - it’s very gloomy in there when shadowed or low light conditions Tweaks to refueling - having to open and close door when you lose the boom seems wrong, some running total call outs as in the F14 would be nice Performance in VR seems to vary hugely, for example, free flight in Caucasus is literally unplayable for me - 15 fps and textures will not load, yet other missions no problem. Some optimisation required somewhere I feel. The F14 seems to get twice as good frame rates…… Jester wheel responsiveness to head movements is not great, being able to use the mouse is great Thank you all at Heatblur for this superb module, worth the wait and it truly sets a new bar.
  19. Hi Zabzuzard, can you explain why the time taken to “fully refuel” can vary between one minute and three? I would have thought the transfer rate was constant, this suggests it is variable? What controls these variables ? Or do you mean it’s one minute for a full internal load and 3 minutes for full internal plus all tanks? Also, Jester…..the running total call outs given in the F14 are very useful………why does Jester not give them in the F4? Glancing at the gauge is not a good idea as you need all your concentration to anticipate any movement and also, it’s tricky to actually read the gauge without zooming in anything other than direct illumination. Final refueling niggle: Why do we have to cycle the door if you come off the boom? Surely not the same in reality and I just can’t see the point of this?
  20. Yeah, I agree, Maksim, is speaking truth ( there is also the 2nd language and written word barrier to take into account) it would be easy to make it an option for non FFB users, peoples feel and reaction to how a module flies is very subjective and of course, we have been using curves and saturation to tune stuff to our liking for a long time, which is not "realistic" . Valuable constructive feedback such as he is providing is very useful and to be applauded. I get it that Heatblur are very protective of their product and the many months and years of effort that has gone into it, but that does not mean it cannot be improved!!!! Especially as FFB becomes less niche, I think it is important to separate it out from sprung joysticks in development paths. I hope this discussion can be continued without people getting pissed at each other........
  21. Can you just clarify some things? First, how come you have 2 pots working,. my Rhino only has one pot ( black knob) on it, plus the red cutoff switch? Second, when you mention the friction at 10-15% do you mean in the slider on the first page? Thirdly, effect & master gain 100% - is this susbsequent to the settings you posted further up? Going to try your settings now....
  22. Can I ask about these switches and how best to bind them and which type of switch to use? First the pinky.. So in control binds I see there is left, right, rejects and also 3 way up.....I am a bit confused by this....what sort of switch does the real jet have and whats best recommendation for the way to bind it? AA refuel switch - I have started with this as a simple on off switch bound to a 2 way, but watching some videos, I see Tricker for example talking about holding the button down and slewing the switch ( For Mavs employment for example) So this would be better on a hat switch that has a depress function? Again, comments / recommendations welcome Thank you
  23. Hi, I am a fellow Rhino user and dont have this issue...I suggest you tweak ( you should not need to turn them OFF) the settings in TELEM FFB to stop this...its very easy to have a setting cause a loop of vibration etc if set too high..... If you like, happy to share my config file....you will of course have to edit the calibration values and stick details to suit your set up. I am using my F14 config currently as a good base point and I am very happy with the FFB effects and stick feel.
  24. I have a decent PC and in VR all my modules fly well and smoothly with great quality visuals. Yesterday on first try with the F4, I flew the first three training missions. Performance was not noticeably any different to what I was getting usually. I should add on update I cleared all my fxo & metashaders etc as usual..... Today, I jumped straight into free flight on the caucusus and it was a performance horror show......15 - 20 fps, the cockpit textures had still not loaded after 5 minutes, and the ground textures were not completely loaded either....basically unplayable in the scenario that is usually the least demanding...over the sea. I went back to the training missions...they were good, well at least, much much better....... I tried the F14....72 FPS in free flight same area. So I tried free flight in Nevada and Syria.....both took around 1.5 2 minutes to load the cockpit textures and complete the world texture loads. Once done, I was mostly at 36 FPS which is the frame rate for my ASW using the occulus software. OK< but not great. So then tried take off mission in those three theatres, which you might expect to have worse performance, being on the ground and with statics etc ( this is the case usually) Interestingly, all three performed better, with caucusus still the worst, with a cockpit texture load time of around 40 seconds and the others around half that. FPS once all loaded was around 36. After that I flew online with 4 friends in one of thems hosted mission, in Syria, with a fairly busy mission. Textures loaded fast and we had a great flight with good performance. So something is affecting the performance in Caucusus and in the canned missions especially, very badly....... I hope this information is of use in tracking down the culprit and interested if others have the same experience. To clarify as well, other modules running as normal with VR and DCS, IE no issues. Thanks

  25. Just been through the first three training missions. You guys have done an amazing job, what a masterpiece! Only been airborne for 10 minutes or so and just taking a break. The cockpit is a work of art, truly beautiful.....but I have one issue. In anything other than direct sunlight, there are a lot of areas and instruments that are extremely difficult to see in the gloom.....I could not for example read the course I was dialing in when climbing out on the take off mission and checking the position of many switches and dials is very tricky. Its not that they are not clear, ( Of course ergonomics is not great in the cockpit either...) everything is just very dark. The weathering while spectacular often dulls the contrast between the white lettering and the backgrounds. Great to look at, less great to use ! I imagine it is a massive job to change this and of course, I know only too well the ongoing back and forth on the similar subject regarding the F14 cockpit. ( I do use the modded VR version for extra clarity with that module) . Anyway, back to the jet for some flight testing! Thanks again for bringing this amazing icon to life for us!
