My buddy Gideon and I had teh same problem this morning...cold start aircraft would not see each other on datalink, despite checking and re setting all settings....( we are pretty familiar with the set up and operation of the datalink) Same mission, checked and spawned into a hot start pair and datalink was working fine..... So this may be some kind of bug?

Strange TADS behaviour / mode...advice please
markturner1960 replied to markturner1960's topic in DCS: AH-64D
Floyd, you are describing exactly what happened, that must be it ! Who knew! It is a function I have never actually got to grips with, so perhaps now is teh time to explore how it works so it does not catch us out again! @Smashy thanks, but definitely was not LST, as I am very familiar with that behaviour and it was different, but thanks for the suggestion..... -
Hi, so in our practice flight today, myself and buddy experienced something strange which we were unsure was a bug, a mode linked behaviour we were unaware of, or a hardware issue. We have both experienced it before on occasions but have never asked about it, so here goes...not sure EXACTLY what we were doing beforehand, but nothing we were aware of that was any different than usual.... We were using Hellfires and a JTAC. I had acquired the JTAC lased target using the auto aquire on the RHG tedac. Afterwards, no matter what I did, which sight, weapon etc, the TADS appeared to be moving itself...you could slew it, but it would not stop when you stopped slewing. Externally, in F2 the TADS was moving around. I could slave it to a target and it stayed on the target but as soon as I unslaved, it start wandering around again. I crewed into another Apache and the TADS was working exactly as it should, which would rule out any hardware issue with a sticky cursor etc. Is there any mode the TADS can get into where this might happen? Its not like the auto aquire search pattern it will wander wherever you move it to and then release..... I would really like to understand what was happening & why! Thanks!

Thx, will try that, although tricky in multiplayer......I just did a sortie and looked on tacview, my parameters were pretty off as well, so thats not helping....funny how in the jet you think you being way better in sticking to parameters than you actually are!

Been troubleshooting set up of my winwing MIP and inthe 3 screen .lua file, in montor set up folder, there are some notes and instrcutions, that also refer to a "displays table" where is this please?

I am very happy to accept this is down to user error, but I am fairly well practiced in dumb bomb delivery in the F5, F14, AV8B and F18, and can achieve pretty good results in these platforms. I have spent maybe a coupel of hours trying both direct and DT modes in the F4 with awful results. I am using the dive computer and inputting the correct variables, While my parameters may not be perfect I am sure they are not that bad... in direct mode, my bombs seem to fall consistently about 500 metres short, in quite repeatable pattern. In DT its similar. What may be causing this and any tips? I have watched the guides on YT....

Jester feature request: ask for speed callouts
markturner1960 replied to GatorNutz's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Plus one on this, in my albeit limited BFM engagements in the F4, i seem to get very few if any speed callouts from jester compared to the F14......Is this correct or should it be the same? Jester has airspeed instruments in the back..... -
f-15e only ED policy on refunds for Razbam products

I have been doing some of the training missions and provided missions and have a big gripe......NO VOICEOVERS!!!! Just on screen text......Whats that all about? With many many community made missions having really great immersion adding voiceovers and every new model released apart from this with voiced training missions, I am really surprised Polychop have not done this.....and still have the front to charge $70....... I love flying the Kiowa, and it has many good points.......but given the sound and texture issues already discussed, I think its overpriced and had I tried before I purchased, I would likely NOT have done so at this price point. Polychop, please dont take the piss with us and sort the issues in a future patch sometime soon.........

SweeeeT!!!! Whats the kneeboard file nomenclature for saved games please?
-
Wow, awesome shots....I think Polychops artists could do with taking a leaf out of Heatblurs book regarding the weathering in the cockpit .....Our version is pretty darn clean
-
I am going to chip in with this as well, the sounds in cockpit are crazily quiet....its got no doors for christ sake, yet you can barely hear anything.....No one complains that the sounds are too loud in the Apache....and they are spot on there, you get a nice solid click or thunk when operating switches and in this, you can hardly hear a thing. Please polychop, make this an option for louder sounds _ I cant believe the majority of people will think its Ok as is.......

Issue with collective axis
markturner1960 replied to markturner1960's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs
I am bumping this as the Kiowa is released and I want to be able to fly it, which I cannot currently with the reversed axis. By the way, its affecting every helicopter except the Apache, which works as it should...... -
just bumping this for any ideas?

Cage button vs auto acquisition mode
markturner1960 replied to Skyracer's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
OK, and in relation to the Heatblur Phantom, how does having jester active change anything in the process? How quickly does he lock the target for example, how reliable is this, is it better to switch him off ? etc etc..... -
Cage button vs auto acquisition mode
markturner1960 replied to Skyracer's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
OK, so what does using the weapon select B position do that any of the above methods of leaving cage dont? -
I have only been using version of the AIM 9 without the null seeker as that just seems completely counterintuitive to , especially after the inconsistencies in tone I am asking about here with other versions....anyway, thats not my query / issue.... Using the M varsion, I have found there are 4 distinct separate tones, can someone explain what these are and why, as what you get and when seems inconsistent...one of the tones is a rare bird indeed, it seems random as to when it occurs. Tone 1 - the standard base grumble of the missile Tone 2 - the increased pitch you get when target is in the reticule, but the seeker head is not uncaged Tone 3 - The higher tone, when you uncage the seeker (AAR release button held) Tone 4 - The rare one which sometimes occurs, without uncaging the head, when the target is in the reticule... this is the rare one.... It appears you can sucessfully launch with tone 2, although its not as good as using tone 3 ( obviously) ....No idea on the tone 4 and why you have 4 differing tones.. Thanks

Cage button vs auto acquisition mode
markturner1960 replied to Skyracer's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Been trying to learn this and getting a bit confused by the various modes etc. The above is clear I think. But I have the following queries: There is no way to tell visually on the radar screen or reticule whether you have left cage mode is there? Above Zabuzard says "leave cage by clicking the button again" by which I assume he means the pinky switch? Does this mean just cycle it? Any change in position leaves cage mode ? I was thinking that cycling the pinky just alters the caged mode to suit the weapon selected.....? Selecting B also does not seem to indicate anywhere that cage is vacated. -
Ok, thanks, I will do some more flying and try and assess…..it could be that it’s just me failing to spot the bandit……. in terms of suggestions, if you made him a little more predictive, it would help, to reduce the effect of the natural delay in processing the information, moving your head and acquiring a tally. Also, Dragons suggestion for tally and where is he is a really great one…….

Hi, I wonder if the HB guys could give us a frank discussion about Jester's spotting capabilities and what he will and wont ever be able to do......I ask, because obviously, "Jester 2" was eagerly anticipated, and while I have read the other thread and comments about jester 2, much was not said. I was today flying one of the BFM missions against the AI and this is where you could really benefit from a second pair of eyes. In the F14, he seems to give many more directional comments, such as "2 o'clock high" etc....however, as we all know, these are mostly useless as by the time he shouts them, the bandit is somewhere else....I was told this is mostly because of priority queuing. In the F4, you seem to get noticeably LESS of these calls, but they are stil no use really......And, rather too many "He's on our six!!" ( although that may be my fault!!) Has there been any work done in this area and is there scope for improvement? I am no coder, but logic says to me that the AI you are fighting sees what you are doing and can respond in time enough to manouvre and think ahead.....so why cant Jester "tap" into that to be more predictive, so that by the time the callout gets processed and played, it is relevant? In effect, he needs to be telling us where the bandit will be, because of the delay, ( which the bandit AI knows...) not where it was... Or is this something that simply cant be improved..? If not, I would be interested in knowing why not... And in the middle of a dogfight, he is still calling out stuff he sees miles away..... How good could he ever be or are we as good as it gets ? Thanks

No they dont, as teh app references your saved games kneeboards folders, but if you know the path for the HB kneeboard folder, you could add that as a tab and it should display those within the app.....not tried that myself though....
-
If you use open kneeboard in 2 D mode ( and in VR of course) its possible to make tabs where you can have several sets of kneeboards. Then you can simply load the set that you want, alongside or instead of the HB ones.....makes life very easy. And of course saves having to page through 30 or 40 pages .....
