Will this cost me one activation credit? Since there are 10 activation credits per purchase, if every patch requires reinstallation those 10 credits may be soon gone...

installation instructions What are the installation instructions for DCSW1.1.2.1? I already have 1.1.2.0 installed, do I need to uninstall that before installing the new version? Is there a patch file available, or do I have to download the complete 1.1.2.1 installation files?

Since the Mustang does not have an artificial horizon, how do I know how many degrees my nose is above or below the horizon? There is something like a poor man's version of an artificial horizon in the P51D, but it doesn't seem to have a scale for nose inclination... When landing, how do I convince myself that I am on the 3-degree glide path down to the runway?

Last night I looked at the Users Files tab of the digitalcombatseries.com webpage for Mustang missions, and, to my disappointment, didn't find any. Today I found missions in the Missions And Campaigns section of the forum. Just wondering why posting missions under User Files is not the preferred method any more...

FlightAce, thanks for your reply. I play mostly SP. Which lua files should I have a look at (you mentioned some lua files)? Is there a way to modify the aircraft labels? I think leaving the red dot would be a reasonable compromise to make aircraft visible, but removing the name of the aircraft and the range label.
-
Am I right in saying that visual detection of enemy aircraft is virtually impossible (probably because of limitations in screen resolution), and there aren't any other detection methods other than visual, right? Any tips/tricks (other than using labels, which is cheating, right?)

Hi, With the new Mustang simulation, since the aircraft is more "primitive", I find that intuitive flying (rather than instrument flying) has become more important. My feeling has been that the most important deficit of a computer simulator compared to real life is that the computer doesn't make you feel acceleration. If, in real life, the plane accellerates, we feel it in our stomach, or get jerked left and right, while on the computer we need to deduce it by looking at abstract instruments, and by then the appropriate control input may be too late. I could envision a more intuitive system, where, e.g. if you pull positive g, a bright, easily visible, bar appears at the bottom of the screen, and if we need to apply right rudder because we are skiding, a bright bar appears on the left side of the screen. I hope I am making sense. Does anybody know of a software that achieves something like this in combination with DCS simulations?

rudder too touchy Hi, I have big trouble giving fine enough input to the rudder, and often end up in the grass upside down when trying to take off. One problem is that my rudder is too sticky, and once I overcome the initial friction, I usually overapply the rudder. I use a curvature of 22 for the rudder. I use a Saitek Pro Flight Rudder at minimum friction setting. Does anybody have any tips for a better rudder input controller, or how to improve the performance of the Saitek rudder. Any other tricks/tips?

let me try again: zero points for missions I design
wolle replied to wolle's topic in User Created Missions General
Dear forum, In my desparation I will try to find an answer to my problem one more time. My problem is that as I design missions, and they grow in complexity, suddenly, from a certain complexity on, I get zero points for flying the mission and zero logged time no matter what I do (see start of thread). I have now narrowed down the problem some more: As I add .wav files to the mission one by one, suddenly the time it takes to save the mission file jumps noticably. When I unzip the .miz file I see that the file format has changed, and it now contains sub-directories, called "Config", "Scripts", "track" and "track-data", whereas prior to the increase in complexity of the mission it did not contain any subdirectories. It is precisely from the moment the subdirectories get created, that I start to get zero points and zero logged time for my missions. Deleting these subdirectories, or deleting elements from the mission does not help unfortunately, once this strange effect occurs there seems to be no way to undo it. Anyone, help please :helpsmilie: -
I want to start looking into using lua scripts in a mission. Does anybody have or know of a simple (the simpler the better, makes it easier for me to learn from) mission that uses lua script in the "condition (lua expression)" or "run script" fields of the ME. Ideally the mission should be simple but do something useful that would not be possible without using lua script. Any help would be appreciated!:helpsmilie:

let me try again: zero points for missions I design
wolle replied to wolle's topic in User Created Missions General
Hi Cholerix, You make an interesting point. I replayed one mission where I do get the correct score, and one mission where I get zero score even though the score card I can display during the mission gives me a non-zero score. I compared the various log files between the two, but there are so many lines I can't make much sense of it. One thing I noticed, though, is that the file me.log for the non-zero score mission contains the lines 06503.063 DEBUG main: flight hours, sec 3382 [night, sec: 0 day, sec: 3382] 06503.063 DEBUG main: hours: 15.276991666667 06504.887 DEBUG main: mission score 40 whereas the me.log file for the zero score mission does not contain such lines. I guess what I am saying is: what do I need to pay attention to in the log files to sort out the reason why I get no score in some missions? -
Thanks ralfidude. Do you (or anybody else) have a track that demonstrates how attacking and shooting down a Ka-50 is done properly?
-
What is your strategy for shooting down a Ka-50? I have a hard time with them. My sidewinders seem to bounce right off them (they hit, there is an explosion, but the chopper keeps on flying), I often need 4 sidewinders to down a single chopper. If I use my gun, they often get me first...

other flights, leave my targets alone!
wolle replied to wolle's topic in User Created Missions General
Hi Grimes, Thanks, it is not ideal, but it is a partial solution, at least. -
I set up a mission containing a large number of other vehicles and flights, both red and blue. My job is to take out a certain target, but when I get there, I often find that other CAS flight have already taken it out. How can I mark my targets in the mission editor and make sure others will leave those alone?
-
I encounter the following problem regularly: When I slew the Maverick seeker head around trying to lock on to the desired target, sometimes while I move it around it locks on to a different object than what I want. No problem so far, but sometimes it does not want to move away from that object (I am not sure if it's a building or what), I have to keep pushing on the slew control head for many seconds to get it to move away from that object (and then of course the slew hopelessly overshoots and I get stuck at a different object I don't want), sometimes I have to give up, and use china hat aft to slew the Maverick to boresight and start over from scratch. Anybody know what I am talking about. What's going on?
-
You are right. They all seem to miss. They fly in at low altitude, then, when close to the target rise in altitude, and then dive towards the target, but all of them overshooting the target by about 50 feet or so. Is this a bug? Is ED aware of that?
-
Thanks grimes, definitely going to try that.

I would like to create missions involving ships. But after placing e.g. a CG-60 Normandy on the sea, there are no tasks or enroute tasks that I can assign to her, right? How can I involve her in the mission, e.g. have her fire some tomahawk cruise missiles at a given land unit or structure? Does anyone have an example mission where the CG-60 does something?

let me try again: zero points for missions I design
wolle replied to wolle's topic in User Created Missions General
Sorry about opening that 2nd thread, I was worried if I don't it'll just get overlooked.. It happens in all the missions I have tried to design, two examples are attached. What does to PM someone mean??? AttackOnGali.miz Bridge.miz -
Hi, Since noone could help me with my previous post, I'll try it again. This time I attach two screen shots as proof of my problem. I have been trying to design my own missions using the mission editor. I start with simple missions, and then make them more and more complex. At various stages I test fly the missions, and get some non-zero score for destroying enemy units. So far so good, but from some moment in time on I keep getting a zero score. So, I thought maybe the last addition of complexity to the mission messed up the scoring system, so I delete the new part and fly it again. I again get a zero score. From that moment on I can delete whatever I want from the mission, no matter what I get a zero score for flying the mission. I attached two screenshots, one showing the score card during the mission (I took this some time in the middle of the mission, but the one at the end of the mission looks very similar), and one the score card at debriefing, where I am awarded no points and no time logged. What is wrong? I want to find out, because I don't want to upload missions to the User Files for which people get a zero score for flying them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. What are possible reasons why you would get a zero score while destroying enemy units? (I do not destroy any friendly units, of course).

I get zero points flying my own missions
wolle replied to wolle's topic in User Created Missions General
EtherealN, I tried it both ways, with or without assigning mission points in the ME. My experience is the following: start with simple mission, I get score if I test fly it, then make mission more complicated, at some point suddenly I get zero score, then I remove the things that made the mission more complicated, still keep getting zero scores. I have designed three missions recently, this phenomenon happened each time. Another question: does the way you assign points in the ME affect the individual unit scores? Another question: is the score you get for killing a unit a fixed number, or does it depend on the environment. E.g. if there are many enemy SAMs around protecting that unit, do you get a higher score? -

Charlie, Thanks for your reply. I am talking about the score that shows up on the screen after exiting a single player mission, that is the third number from the top in the middle column under the heading "general debriefing". To be honest, I am not sure which of the scores that is, but I would assume those are the individual unit points. This brings me to another question: I could never figure out where the score for the mission goals shows up. If I set 100 points mission score for destroying a group of tanks, I do not get these points awarded if I destroyed all those tanks, I mean it doesn't show up in the middle debriefing column I described above. How and where does this mission score show up, is it simply added to the individual unit scores? If so, then that feature does not seem to work on my computer... -
