  1. How is DCS on the 1080p? I'm considering new hw myself. ps. me too in "St Evanage" :)
  2. My youngest likes to play on it too, so there's justification for me :)
  3. Sounds promising :) Will check back with interest
  4. you think you've got problems with spec :)
  5. Just a thought, are the DCS titles Windows 8 friendly?
  6. Bodo, thanks for the excellent advice. At the mo I'm just toying with the ideas, you see from my sig the current spec I have is knocking on a bit and yet with mostly high settings for scenery etc I get respectable FPS in IA and single missions. Just campaigns that are frustrating now. Your advice is about OC is spot on, I haven't usually bothered but it would be nice to keep options open. I am considering buying because this time round, there seems to be much better choice at a reasonable price than my previous attempts (last being 3 years ago). I'm also at the stage in life, I'd sooner pay someone else to do the legwork and I just open the box :)
  7. Thanks Rubberduck, that's good to know. Please let me know what fps you get in DCS and with what settings
  8. Hey Ebs, did you change any of the parts listed in your OP following the advice from the other guys?
  9. So what spec did you go for in the end?
  10. Thanks for the tip about AMD System Monitor, I just used it to determine how my own 5770 weighs up against the i5-750 in campaign for bottlenecks. I too suffer dips of FPS to about 10fps (from 30-40fps) when looking in the direction of battle. Using Georgian Hammer mission 1 as a benchmark, seems the CPU averages about 60%, the GPU about 75% with the GPU frequently peaking in the high 90's. The CPU rarely peaks over 80% I wonder if the OP has been able to run similar tests. I'd be keen to see the results.
  11. Hi Ebs, thanks. I read your thread seems like maybe the spec of the PCSpecialist may be ok. This time, I'm looking to buy a rig having built my last 2
  12. I'm considering a new rig based around DCS and have found myself looking at PCSpecialist here in UK. They feature regularly in mags like PC FORMAT and I haven't read a bad word about them. Here's a link to what I've been browsing, and would appreciate your thoughts. http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/view/Vortex-1000-gaming-pc/ The Vortex 1000 Gaming PC Specification Snapshot: Intel® Core™ i5-3570K ASUS® P8Z77-V LX 8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X 1600 2GB GEFORCE GTX 660 Ti 120GB KINGSTON HYPERX 3K
  13. I've noticed in the 1v1 instant action, when I'm taking rounds from the AI (which is a lot :) I get huge FPS drop. So maybe it's an issue when ANY bullets are in the air, not just mine.
  14. I've only noticed FPS drop whilst firing, back to normal when trigger released (average 40 fps with my settings)
  15. The guns hit my FPS for 50%. The preliminary changelog for 1.2.3 states "Bug Fixes and Adjustments: DCS World • Tuned aircraft gun smoke." I hope this means the FPS hit is minimized.
  16. bit harsh dropping a Mav on that poor old bloke :)
  17. I find that DCS P-51 is quick and simple to launch, and quick to jump into a mission - which I'm guessing if it wasn't, those who find computers 'fiddly' would get annoyed and drop it like a hot spud! Of course, some time may be needed to set the joystick buttons in the first place, but I reckon from boot of PC I can be flying in about 4 mouse clicks!
  18. A-Ha! I thought there was something not right when I watched back a track so I could marvel at my first fantastic 3-point landing, and instead I watch myself crashing into the ground about 100 yds to the left of the runway!
  19. Using the Instant Action dogfight against AI as a reference, my fps sits around 40fps and drops 50% when I fire guns, and becomes a slide show when I take rounds from the AI. In A-10C I have no FPS issues, never dips below about 30fps with TGP and MAV on MFCDs
  20. I have the same experience as you, Airway. My system specs are in my sig.
  21. Umm, yes a little :)
  22. I've read plenty posts recommending that some fps gain be gained by modifying the "structures" setting in graphics.cfg, for example http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1488194&postcount=322 It does seem to work, I get about 2-5 fps boost All the advice suggests to change the 2nd number, which represents view distance to start showing structures. What does the 1st number represent? Density? In mine, it defaults (i think - not on my gaming rig right now) to 40 I can't find anywhere that describes the 1st number, and what range can be set. Is lower better than higher?
  23. Same here with HD5770. I normally have 30-40 fps until firing the guns, then it reduces 50%. I'm guessing the smoke effect is causing a lot for something to process, but is it CPU or GPU? Either way, it would be nice to be able to scale some of the effects to prevent such a fps hit.
  24. anyone know if it works in 1.2.2. yet?
  25. Thanks recoilfx, I'll study that and see how I get on
