  1. So I just installed DCS world (did not use any beta) and the performance difference between A-10C 1.1.1.1 and DCS world 1.2 are both confusing and unacceptable. I could run previous A-10 versions with little difficulty (it stuttered a bit on the ground) but now I notice frequent stutters while in cockpit and it slows to a unplayable slideshow when I turn on the MAV or TGP screens on the MFD's, this makes the sim unplayable for me unfortunately. I am running a AMD 9950 BE x4, Geforce 9800GT, 8 gigs of ram and running the latest drivers for everything, keep in mind, I was able to run DCS A-10C very well, only minor stutters on the ground and I seriously doubt that the engine has changed enough to justify such a massive drop in performance. I don't expect a immediate fix, I will be sticking with older versions until a hotfix or a patch comes out that will address these issues (it seems I am not the only one to have this problem on the forum) and I hope this is not just dismissed with "Get a better computer", I can't and won't at this time, also, I do not see anything in the updated engine that would cause this performance drop to be so dramatic. anyway, my rant is over but I just wanted to post my results and possibly it will help the ED team with the (hopfully soon to be) patch. ***EDIT*** I have scaled down all of the settings in a attempt to increase frames but that only goes so far, I have unticked TSAA (never used it in previous versions), unticked disable aero interface (advice given on other parts of this subforum) and decreased many settings overall, still not getting adequate performance at all.
  2. You should look into going on ebay and grabbing a Saitek X-45 or a X-52, both are really good for this sim and a X-45 will only cost you $35 or so. It is worth getting a HOTAS, a single joystick is possible but not really ideal in the long run.
  3. You should be able to integrate steams A-10C (with a update that is forthcoming) into world with no problem. Black shark 1 on the other hand, well, it is unlikely that they will do anything with it when Black shark 2 is currently the only one updated to run with A-10C. It is worth getting Black shark 2 though, I really enjoy it.
  4. This is pretty sad, I cut my teeth on Submarine sims before I ever got into anything that flies, I have enjoyed SH3 (with the GWX mod), SH4 (with trigger maru) and even the widely hated SH5 with the addition of more than a few mods. I guess I feel like this browser game is just a kick in the jewels after they all but dropped the franchise after SH5's problematic release, you would think they would have even a modicum of respect for the fans that have thus far enjoyed the franchise. I honestly hope this thing fails, I would rather the Silent Hunter franchise be dead than end up like this pathetic tripe.
  5. I just really hope this new terrain does not murder my poor PC, I can run DCS A-10C and BS2 just fine, I hope the same holds true for the Nevada map and Edge terrain.
  6. You sir, are a saint!! Thank you so much, this is exactly what I was looking for!
  7. I just noticed that Ed Macy had written a review of Black shark a long time back, I tried to follow the links to it and all of them are dead (probably too old). I was hoping someone here had saved the .PDF and would be willing to share it with me? I know it sounds silly but I have a itch to read it. Thanks in advance!
  8. First of all, I am going to tell you that you should probably try to score a used X-45 or X-52 off ebay if you wanna really unlock your potential in this sim, you can probably find them for anywhere between $35 to $60 and having a good HOTAS is almost essential in this sim. On a related note, don't feel pressure to get a Thrustmaster warthog, I know this forum is full of folks who will tell you that you NEED one, frankly that is false, I am able to play A-10 without any issues (and almost never touching the keyboard) with my X-46. Okay, now on to your question. When I started playing this sim, I just had a Microsoft precision pro so I had to bind shift keys for every hat switch function on to my one and only hat, I was able to do this by setting everything to use a different key (Left shift+POV hat would slew, Left ctrl+POV for CMS) so that I could access every function on my single hat. This kinda assumes you have some form of headtracking, look into freetrack, the unit is easy and cheap to build and you will pay only a small fraction of the cost of a TrackIR 4 or 5 (again, many will say TrackIR is the ONLY way to go, that is simply false). You can play this sim without spending a bunch of money, but you should try to build a head tracking unit and do try to eventually get a HOTAS.
  9. I got a profile started that I will refine as I learn more about the sim, I do however seem to have issues assigning my three position sliding switch to slow zoom in and out like I have it set in A-10C, it was nice and smooth in A-10, in Black shark it just jumps to full zoom and then full back, perhaps I am setting something wrong?
  10. I just got Black shark 2 and I was wondering if anyone had a .lua file for the Saitek X-45 HOTAS, I know it is old but I really just need a file that I can drop in a make it work. Thanks in advance.
  11. Don't be afraid to try freetrack also, if you need any help setting it up just send me a PM.
  12. So I see a lively debate has formed around this topic, anybody else have some step by step info on what they do against various air targets? I am not super great with the sim so I may need a bit more explanation than usual.
  13. I know that AA in a A-10 is pointless, I just want to be able to do it well enough so that I am not helpless if I get in a jam. Some great tips however, I will give them a try.
  14. So I am slowly but surely getting a handle on all the ins and outs of the weapon systems, I can drop in CCRP and CCIP mode, I can launch a few mavericks in one pass and I can strafe ground targets with the gun with some level of precision. What I cannot do, is hit a air to air target, even a stationary helicopter. The problem is twofold, I have issues spotting small airborne targets like Helicopters (Hinds and the like) and that even if I can spot them, the AIM-9 pipper (even when set to scan) is hard to get on target. What are some of the things you all do in air to air situations, hints, tips and tutorials are really welcome at this point, the more the better. Thanks so much in advance for the help!
  15. Wow, great photo's, some of the WWI era birds are absolute stunners!
  16. You tease me with that bit of a Spad XIII in the background of one of the photo's! Love the pictures, wish I could make it to that little toybox indeed.
  17. Thanks so much, this is exactly what I was looking for! would it be possible to post the .Lua file itself? Thanks again for the help!
  18. I imagine that you can just put the downloaded file onto a DVD, it would be just like any other DVD burning job done through windows.
  19. I have done google searches, forum searches and all manner of other searches in hopes of finding a ingame Black shark profile for my X45, something I can just throw into my blackshark folder and use. Every topic about this that was posted before has nothing but outdated and non-working links, I was wondering if any of you folks had a profile kicking around or anything. Thanks in advance.
  20. I just use some plumbers grease (a silicone lubricant) along the edge of the retaining cup and the bottom of the tension disk thing. Works like a charm and you only need to use a very very small amount.
  21. Thanks so much! I was looking everywhere for one, this should do just fine.
  22. I have had the latest release of BMS falcon on my hard drive for awhile now but the only thing really stopping me from playing it (aside from wanting to learn my DCS stuff first) is that I just got my X45 and don't have a clue as to what kind of profile I should have. anyone got a BMS Falcon profile for the X45? Thanks -Mike
  23. Could you tell me how you have your X45 set up? I imagine that I will alter the setup to taste but a good idea of what to start with is all I am looking for. The ebay ad said it was in great condition and the pictures on the auction looked really nice, almost no dirt or dust on it at all (including where it would be almost impossible to clean so I imagine it spent little time out of it's box.) Thanks.
  24. I looked over the images on the site and it seemed to be in very good condition (you are right though, many on ebay are pretty much garbage now) and the seller has a return policy. I don't have any choice, I cannot continue to learn to play the DCS sims in any effective manner while having one hand tied behind my back, also, I have heard many folks say that the stick is really great and the center play issue is easily fixed with a tighter spring in place of the stock on (quick and cheap fix). I also don't want a force feedback because I simply don't like force feedback in sticks and I need a full set of hat switches. thanks for the concern and the advise however, I am grateful.
