If anything, I'd suppose electromigration, the primary cause of "wear" on a CPU would cause increased heating die to current leakage. Break in is a real thing in audio due to the mechanical components involved. I've taken your suggestion to Google this phenomenon and haven't found anything. I'm also surprised that it has never been mentioned in any of my electrical engineering studies.

I just deleted my post because I give up, but I guess I'll point out that SLI doesn't double RAM, in that case 4 + 4 = 4

Who cares how fast it moves data around internally? Putting pixels on the screen is the only thing that matters. As far as the benchmarks, let me know when you find a card with better price/performance. I took an unbiased approach going into my recent GPU purchase and by all accounts the 970 is the best bang for the buck, even in its "crippled" state.
-
I dunno, those still crack me up every time. Here's another. ;)
-
Well have fun with your overpriced and underperforming card, I'll stick with my incorrectly spec'd yet superior card. :D
-
The RAM bus is still 256 bits wide... The ROP count was corrected by the time I bought my 970, so personally I don't care. However, I don't think I'd care anyways. If it had only 3 ROPs and still performed as well, does it matter? I buy a card for overall performance, and price to performance in particular, not to brag about how many cuda cores I have.

Except it does poop gold. They said it has 4gb ram, and guess what... It does.

Joystick assignments are per-aircraft in DCS. If you want to use modes to switch aircraft, that'd be redundant. If you want modes for "Fly-Shoot-Land" or something like that, the mode selector switch can be recognized as a button in DCS, which you could use as the modifier. The SST software is so infuriating, I use it as little as possible. Mainly I have it setup with bands on the spiking sliders and dials, mapping the ministick to slew keys, and that's about it.
-
Sounds like you're mapping keyboard commands to the buttons with the SST software, is that right? If so, forget that and do it in DCS.

Is it a particularly windy mission? I've found if there's a decent amount of wind the missile has a harder time catching the laser. Aiming slightly upwind seems to help.

Sure it's a hugely poweful card that costs $330 and destroys everything the competition has to offer, but it only has 7 shlangleflammers when they said it had 8. I won't touch it.

How much do you use the rudder when you bank left or right?

I think the FAA handbook is useful for learning helicopter flight. http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/aviation/helicopter_flying_handbook/ -
Nvidia is supposed to be trying to fix it with a driver update by forcing data that doesn't need to be fast (background driver kind of stuff) to the 512 MB partition. I bought my 970 knowing about the issue (I don't think it's an issue, TBH) and I couldn't care less. The card is a f'n BEAST either way, and there is absolutely nothing out there that can touch it in terms of price/performance, 3.5 GB or not.

Yes, everything should be setup when the pilot shows up, but sometimes things are missed. I'd like to find occasional burned out bulbs and realistic system malfunctions, things like that. Those kinds of failures should happen before or during flight and would add to the experience quite a bit. It would be awesome to have a reason to do all those checks.

Maybe post to Google drive? I for one would love to have a copy. Mx manuals go into system details a whole lot more than the -1's, interesting reading.

Ah yes... Right you are! I was basing my stance from my interpretation of the posted schematic, but I've gone back to see Friedrich's T.O. and I see the thermal relief valve now.
-
I'm with Pilum, that's the same conclusion I came to when I saw the hydraulics schematic. If the flaps are down and *then* the speed limitations are exceeded the fluid won't bypass through any designed mechanism, the flaps are effectively locked. However, the flaps could blow up 'gently' if hydraulic fluid escaped from the plumbing between the actuating strut and the control valve, the fluid leaked past the piston, or leaked past the control valve. (The latter two options seem to be the most likely, IMHO) If there was zero leakage (internal or external) on the flap actuating strut, the control valve, or the plumbing between, the flaps would only retract as a consequence of mechanical failure.

Saitek X-52 Pro Worth my time and money?
KLR Rico replied to SilentGun's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
^ As fantastic as that would be, the OP said the x-52 was as high as he could go, so I don't think something that costs as much as some used cars would be feasible. ;) I had the original x-52, any of the shortcomings can be handled with slight modifications. If you'd like to try it out, you could buy it from Amazon or someplace else with a good return policy. An alternative is to find a good deal for a used one on eBay and if you don't like it you'd probably be able to resell it for at least the same amount of money. (I've made money on a few purchases like that) -
Has there been any thought about what tanker will be used for the Mirage? I'd suggest modding the default KC-135. You could put MPRS (multi point refueling system) pods on it, and then we'd be able to hit both drogue and boom aircraft. The French also employ the KC-135 as well, so that's an even better reason to use it. I could provide some pictures or specs of the MPRS if it's any help.

2.0 looks *amazing*!! Great job, ED! I'm really looking forward to flying in that beautifully detailed environment. :pilotfly:
