  1. I just tried this, and you're totally right. I wonder why that is... :dunno:
  2. I like to use both sights. I don't mess with the range on the gyro sight, I just use it to get an idea of the deflection. I'll focus on the fixed sight and know that the bullets will travel along a line between it and the gyro sight.
  3. ^ I'm seeing a lot of completed auctions at $1200 and one was $1600!! It *almost* makes me want to sell mine and deal with waiting for the next availability. Almost. ;)
  4. I can't see how anyone that's tried it would ever want to fly without it. It's a little something like this...
  5. If there's one thing I'd want to stress, it's that there is so much more to the experience than image quality. I can't go back to the TV, but you can bet I'm going to be first in line for CV2.
  6. Hi Rick, I never tried DK1 or DK2, but I have a Samsung Gear VR / Note 5. If you haven't tried that, you can get a demo at most Best Buy stores. Comparing it to that, the CV1 is moderately better as far as FOV, screen door effect, distortion, and chromatic aberration. The CV1's higher refresh rate, lower latency, and 6 (vs 3) DoF tracking is all much better over the gear, but the flare/bloom and contrast is somewhat worse with the CV1.
  7. Well, remember that this is all holding my phone and rift together. That being said, I agree that the image is somewhat ghosted with some pretty bad bloom/flare artifacts. Sometimes it feels like I'm wearing those drunk goggle things. :D Still, despite all the shortfalls in image quality, I still find it to be adequate for a first generation product and I'd certainly never go back to a monitor willingly. The sense of "being there" is just amazing.
  8. I took some pictures through the CV1 today to help illustrate what to expect from the resolution. These are shot through the optics, not screenshots. As you can see, it's fairly usable, but certainly not perfect. One thing you're not going to get from the pictures is the smoothness of the low latency and 90hz refresh rate and the sense of presence. Still, you can get a pretty good idea here of what to expect gauges and stuff to look like. Edit: see the photos at the link for a larger image https://goo.gl/photos/R84Rxmoie2Nyp55u7 https://goo.gl/photos/R84Rxmoie2Nyp55u7 Here's a shot leaned in slightly and cropped to 100%. You can see that the speed tape is quite readable, and the thousands on the altitude tape is easy, but the hundreds and tens are a bit more difficult.
  9. AFIK, its available for free to all CV1s, but EVE is only free for preorders.
  10. True, but the gain in immersion beats any disappointment in resolution about 100x over.
  11. I made a G-Seat based on Bergison's, and it's nothing short of amazing. I'm anxiously awaiting ED to fix rift support so I can fly DCS with it. I have to do some tinkering to get it work with P3D in the meantime. Actually, I should probably go ahead and do that now. :D
  12. I'm all for moving forward with VR tech, but this sounds like vaporware.
  13. I got mine on the 31st. I've made some comments about it in the main rift thread, but I only can compare it to the Gear VR. As far as DCS, I'm waiting for ED to release a patch because CV1 rift support is currently broken.
  14. For the most part it's boarderline, but towards the usable side. In general, large text like on the altimeter are easily readable, while medium text like on a HSI or most airspeed indicators are only readable with some guessing. MFDs are hard to read, but the primary indicators can usually be guessed. Basically all labels on switches are unreadable. Fortunately, Flyinside has a handy "binocular" snap zoom, so between that and the mouseover tool tips, everything is quite usable.
  15. So, I'm coming to realize how amazing ATW is. I've been playing a ton of Prepar3d with flyinside (since I'm waiting for DCS to get fixed for CV1), and it's been simply fantastic. P3D is running at 50-70FPS, but it's running inside the rift at a solid 90fps with virtually no jutter. The most immersion breaking thing that happens is when the scenery and terrain changes it's LOD suddenly, but that's always been an issue for me with FSX/P3D. If DCS is working with ATW, we're all in for a treat.
  16. I had a hard time adjusting the CV1 to be both comfortable and clear. I eventually got a good position and was able to play P3D for an hour straight, but I still think it's a little off. At one point while I was trying to find the sweet spot, I took a minute to dig around in the box some more to see if there were extra "facial interfaces" that might be a better fit (there aren't any). As far as "rift face" goes, I'm not worried or surprised. You'd get the same thing wearing ski goggles all day.
  17. I got my CV1 today! I've never used DK1 or 2, just cardboard, opendive, and gear VR. Compared to gear VR the CV1 has a much reduced SDE, and the edge to edge focus is better. There is also very little chromatic aberration vs. gear VR. However, I find the contrast ratio sometimes appears to be poor; with washed out blacks and grays. Also there are very bright/obvious flares between light and dark areas, but I don't notice them much except for areas like loading screens. Despite that, in some games like lucky's tail, the saturation, clarity, and brightness are excellent and I have no complaints about the image quality. The advantage of using a PC to pump the pixels vs a mobile device are quite clear when you see some of the effects. :D Overall, I'm afraid it's not leaps and bounds ahead of the gear VR like I secretly hoped, but it's definitely not terrible by any stretch. Really, all I'm thinking about is how DCS will be with it, since that was my main motivator. From what I've seen so far, I think that reading the gauges, HUD, or spotting will all be borderline. However, I think the immersion factor will more than make up for it (at least to me), and VFR flying will be no problem. Of course, I can't say for sure until I get to try it. :joystick:
  18. Oh noooo! My rift is coming today, and DCS is the only reason I've wanted it so badly. I sure hope it's playable again soon.
  19. I don't know what's going on there, try the link right above the embedded video.
  20. Practice. :) Get good at hovering in ground effect, and then basically memorize the attitude the helicopter assumes. Later, you will get used to pulling the helicopter into that position as it comes off the skids. Edit: added quick video jSitvEw4VwQ
  21. That's what I'm doing. Between a X52 with the pinky button as a modifier and using the mouse, I don't use the keyboard for any flying task. I can't see how anyone that's tried VR would even consider flying with a monitor, but I have to remember people have different tastes. I guess it's the same thing as accepting that Justin Beiber is popular.
  22. I brought that up a while ago. I hope it becomes possible, at least with a mod or something. Having a keybind to simulate binoculars would be helpful.
  23. I'd try keeping the high value pots and add a capacitor (~1uf) between the wiper and ground. It'd be easy to try because you can just solder it right there on the pot.
  24. I think it's something along those lines. In a convoy with closely spaced vehicles, you have to get pretty close before the mav's sensor can resolve individual targets. I'd guess it usually needs to be within 4-5 miles to do that. Otherwise, the sensor attempts to lock onto the whole convoy and eventually settles on one target, just not the one you wanted.
  25. Glad I'm not the only one that has had trouble keeping the M2K on track. Any crosswind and I'm all over the place, it makes my taildragger handling look amazing in comparison.
