    Wondering

I think that's called "Counting your chickens before they hatch." DCS is playable as is. The only way it's ever going to be completely stable and bug free is if they feature freeze it, and I hope for the greater good, that'll never happen.
  2. If tail rotor failure = automatic crash, there would be no such thing as an autogyro. I rest my case. :)
  3. One distinct advantage to pedals is the toe brakes, which are vital in the P-51 and dora.
  4. I think you're CPU bottlenecked, I don't think you'll see much improvement with a GPU upgrade. You could try setting all the graphics settings to low, if your FPS don't change much then you know for sure you're CPU limited. If so, then it's as you already know, you'll have to go for the whole CPU/MB/RAM package... If your primary use of this machine is gaming, I think you'd be fine to stick with the i5, but you're still looking at a pretty good chunk of change to do so.
  5. On my sim computer I don't use AV. On everything else I just use windows defender and common sense.
  6. ^ bahahahahhahaha!
  7. 3K RPM, 61" MP, flaps 0.
  8. I already had the P-51, I used the KS rewards to get the 190 and preorder the 109. I do plan on buying the rest of them though.
  9. I have the basic X52, it meets all the requirements for a hotas. I don't know if it was solved in the pro version, but mine has issues with the sliders, wheels, and throttle axis all being fairly jittery. The sliders and wheels issue I've dealt with by just using them as bands mapped to keystrokes in the software. The X55 looks mighty tempting, I'd probably buy that if I was buying a new stick from scratch. I can't imagine spending nearly $500 on the warthog, it looks like a nice bit of kit, but hotdamn. I'd rather scratch build my own controller for that kind of money.
  10. I vote for the C-130. It's so versatile! You could resupply a CA commander by air drops, LAPES, or dropping paratroopers to resupply a CA commander. Or imagine flying a MP gunship!
  11. It sucks that you can't zoom, but I guess that's easily remedied by the devs. I set up a makeshift oculus rift today, I can't wait for the consumer version! A couple months ago I heard about Google Cardboard, which lead me to the Durovis OpenDive. I printed one, which was the closest I've been to the rift's tech. It was a hit at work and with my kids, but it only made me drool even more for the OR. Today I had the idea that I might be able to stream DCS to my phone and play on the dive. I used nvidia stream on the PC and Limelight on my phone, along with my 3 point cap for facetracknoir. In DCS I set the monitor option to stereo, and got the side-by-side stereo that way. I have a galaxy note 2, so at 1280x720 the resolution isn't great, but it *does* work. I'm really tempted to get the oculus DK2, but I'm pretty sure the wife isn't going to be down with me buying this thing twice. ;)
  12. Can you zoom in/out (FOV change) while wearing the rift?
  13. ^ I don't think so... Humid air is less dense than dry air, and everything else being equal, an engine will have worse performance.
  14. [OT] A $3500 Trex450? Is it platinum?! LOL. [/OT]
  15. I've never maintained the A-10's, but on the planes I have worked, the prep is easy, basically if there's a "remove before flight" streamer, it comes out. :) But yeah, security forces would be on you like flies on $*&% if you even *start* engines without clearance. Been there & done that when the message didn't get relayed properly.
  16. Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
  17. I'm stoked about *everything* I read in the newsletter. So much awesomesauce.
  18. I dont usually spot them in a fast mover. In the A-10 I usually catch them when they're out in the open, firing weapons or popping flares. Popping flares is definitely the most obvious. EDIT: Ooops, missed that this was about *radar*. I've only been able to reliably track choppers when they're > or ~100 kts, but it's usually OK even if they're at a couple hundred feet altitude.
  19. An iced pitot can trap air inside the tube, once the air is trapped it's pressure stays the same, but during an ascent this pressure will rise relative to the static air pressure outside the aircraft, this shows up on the gauge as increasing speed.
  20. Here is an excerpt from an engine service manual about turbine life: I'd like to also note that running at 100% isn't *nessisarly* bad, the T56 engine used in the C-130 runs at a constant 100% in flight. Also, I saw ceramic blades mentioned, those are in use, at least for the 1st stage of the T56-15, almost certainly in other engines. Some of the newer engine designs even have turbine blades "grown" from a single crystal.
  21. IonicRipper, the handle is pulled up when the MW-50 tank is filled with fuel (for use as an internal auxiliary tank). (^sniped! :) ) I'd expect some sort of detrimental effects running MW-50 in the fuel feed, but the engine is happy to run with the pump engaged and the handle in either position. Edit: and indeed the manual specifically states: I get that the 190 is in beta, I just figured I'd bring it up because I hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere yet. Another thing I was wondering about is that the MW-50 pressure is pretty much always at 0.8 kg/cm^2, but the manual (and gauge markers) show the normal range to be 0.4 to 0.6, anything going on there?
  22. I understand that this handle switches delivery of the tank's contents between either the fuel injectors or the supercharger intake. Currently the lever has no effect, are there plans to implement this in the future?
  23. Damn that looks good!
  24. On the warbirds, the stick loses control pressures at low/zero airspeed. In the other aircraft, it remains constant (as far as I've noticed) throughout all airspeeds. I asked about it a while ago and the answer I was given is that those aircraft have hydraulic controls and the control forces don't vary with speed. On the ground, same thing. Zero force at zero speed, I've never noticed if there's any elevator pressure from the propwash, I'll have to go check it out.
  25. I hate how it's always the answer, but "wait for EDGE" ;) Currently, DCS doesn't utilize SLI. I don't know if EDGE will support it or not, but it'd be pointless right now.
