You may not see the point (and I may agree to an extent), but that's how it works and having a degree increases your pay, responsibility, and opens up options that would otherwise be closed to you (pilot being just a singular example.) I didn't see the point in a degree either before I went in, got a good paying job, etc. (you may gather I joined quite late), and later fully regretted that decision. It's something that at age 18 may be hard to carefully consider, but an attempt needs to be made regardless. I thought I was going to be career USMC, but after 4 years of not seeing each other (ex-wife was Navy) we decided it'd be nice to see each other for more than a week at a time and got out. My Crohn's disease was also coming out of remmission as well and had I stayed there's a strong chance I would have ended up as a medical separation. Things change, even with the best of intentions and planning, as someone already said. There are certainly jobs, and good jobs at that, that don't require a degree. And even some that say they do don't really (I held a couple IT jobs that supposedly required a degree before I had one). And there are programs in the military that will pay for you to go to college so hoping to take advantage of one of those is potentially realistic. There are programs like MECEP when I was in. And at the them the Navy was looking to send people with some college to finish in order to commission them in the nurse corps. I nearly applied for that one after some proding as medicine is something of interest. And I certainly don't advocate racking up huge amounts of debt without a plan to pay it off. Even before I had the G.I. Bill I managed to pay as I went with internship jobs, part time work, and applying for scholarships, though I admit that gets harder to do by the day with rising tuitions and both a stagnant job market and salaries. I hardly think that's a decision to be fluffed off lightly though. If (s)he wants it later it's going to be all the much harder even with the government paying. Put it this way, do you think they offer such an incentive because most people who serve successfully take advantage of it?

Agree. Had people say if I joined they'd join. I joined. They didn't. I'd also suggest you consider college, ROTC, and getting commissioned. It will take a little longer, but I think it would be even more rewarding. And take it from me, if you decide on college later while you're working and supporting yourself and possiblt a wife and kids that is NO fun. Two+ years 40+ hours of work a week and 40+ hours dedicated to school finishing what I started before I enlisted. I didn't do DCS, social media, or much of anything that wasn't school or work. It was maddening. I was very grateful for the G.I Bill, but that was not the right way.
  3. The T4 caucuses update will be at least part of 2.5 from the sounds of it. But as things stand Starways mod will remain a mod, albeit updated to work with the new terrain engine.
  4. T4 terrain engine as in DCS 2.0+. The Caucuses map we have right now in 1.5 is using the T3 engine. They're currently working on redoing/updating it for the T4 engine, which I guess will mean we'll also need updated textures from Starway.
  5. Morbid curiosity rules my life. If this is the case how are other games getting past it or why is it a problem for DCS and not them. There are definitely titles that perform way better.
  6. Apparently they can't because that's the whole reason Starway couldn't get it on the store as a DLC. How does it being in their name suddenly make it viable as a DLC?
  7. So it'd be fraud if they incorporated it so you still get it for free and don't have to fuss with uninstalling and installing it via JGSME with each update? Cause I donated and I'd love to go back to life without JGSME and I've only had it installed for less than 24 hours at this point. As convenient as it is what JGSME does for us the process is still a giant PITA and I've set it up for just one version of the game. Your logic is over-entitled, selfish, and ridiculous. You donated. He released it. The transaction is complete. You hold no special license, title, or rights to his work.
  8. You need to turn on the laser and shkval if you want to track a point on the ground, I believe. When it's set up right I think a green light come on on the gun panel at the bottom left corner of the front panel. LShift+C to to optionally turn off cut off burst. LCtrl+Space if I recall to select guns. There are also buttons to manually depress and raise the guns but don't recall them. I've never gotten PPTM to work, where they're supposed to stay depressed on the point where you pulled the trigger. Instead I use the PROG mode, I believe I outlined above, which means finding your target ahead of time.
  9. By how much? If the landing skids are above the terrain sure. Those missiles aren't very high up on the aircraft.... you'd be dragging the wire through ground clutter, rocks, dirt, vegetation, whatever. I find it hard to believe that works, but prove me wrong and I'll eat my words... Edit: Thanks for the video and translation. Good stuff. Words eaten. I also didnt realize the wire was spooled on the rocket and not the launcher.
  10. Seems IRL that would not be possible with a wire guided missile...
  11. Similar in the A-10C. All I use in the first half of FOB Vetka is rockets and guns. See tracer fire from infantry, point, fire. Works with lightly armoeed vehicles as well. The maneuvering in the valley is far too tight, especially with the cloud cover at 10k to be dealing with mavericks, etc. Although when I played it last night I did a super low and fast pass on some armor with a half dozen Mk-82Airs which was kinda new and fun.
  12. Ya, I like the MK5's set to ripple pairs 7 similarly. I often can lay down two or 3 bursts in a pass and they wreck infantry and soft armored targets. Quite nice.
  13. Haha, true that. :)
  14. You wouldn't like me. I often change group behavior to keep moving rather than dispersing. I dont think stop and become a sitting duck is very realistic...
  15. Were you hosting? I'd bet anything clients lag. My buddy always falls _way_ behind me even when we start rolling down the runway together. I could just be more agressive in vaporizing digital fuel. I suspect a little of Column A, a litle of Column B, not that I have proof of either...

    DCS: F-5E!

You dont know what happened. Something obviously came up. I don't have any more clue what it could be than you, but I don't think they're making us wait an extra two months just to make us wait.

    DCS: F-5E!

If it will be full price during early access as the page states how can we pre-purchase at a discount AND have early access tomorrow. I want it tomorrow as well, but think it's wishful thinking...
  18. Maybe it's double mapped or something? Use right ctrl enter to see when its engaged and maybe you can correlate when its disengaging with something you're doing.... i have never seen it disengage on it's own so seems weird...
  19. It doesn't double the RAM. SLI cards have a copy of the same thing in RAM. You effectively have 4G, not 8G...
  20. You don't get stutter in 2.0 with SLI? There's a whole thread of people with that issue. I ripped my second 970 out and gave up. And that article you linked showed the 1080 keeping up with if not outpacing dual 980's at 4k so that's kinda awesome. Not to mention I'm personally happy to see an amount of RAM that exceeds what DCS is saying it's using these days as well. I've seen DCS claim over 6G which maxes out even 980's... If you have dual 980's and they're working well you'll get nothing from a single 1080 I don't think, but for the rest of us one option is waaaaaay cheaper than the other....
  21. 5000 feet? That is very high... maybe it's vertical limitations?
  22. Well, no track so we cant know if all the switches really are in the right position, but barring that slave the autohover so its pointing in the right dirextion for release. Think it's the d key or something.
  23. Damage also is up to chance, so you lived in the original strike, but int replay it blew you sky high. This is a common failing in track files. There's nothing in there thats says target was hit and sustained X damage, but rather just that a SAM fired at you. In another replay it might miss you completely, or damage you in an entirely different way...

    DCS: F-5E!

To me the manual is important for final release but not beta. That said betas have dragged on for excessively long at times for the sake of things like the manual. There's probably a decent middle ground....
  25. Someone mentioned laser guided rockets are possible from those pods. Is that functionality the SA342L can make use of? I'm guessing no, but it would be amazing if so.
