  1. That franchise lives in a wider world now (see what I did there?). And that world strives to be as realistic as reasonable. Look at Mavericks in the A-10C. No more off bore shots sailing with precision to the target. The Su-27 isn't the only craft getting improved in ways that inhibit unrealistic habits. If you can't handle it right now fly in 33 until you get used to it. I was surprised when I took the wings off the 27, but I will adapt. Everyone's pointed out an eagle survived (for certain values of survived) 30 G's, but I wonder how well they'll operate when they rip missiles off the plane, destroy sensors and sytems, and wobble everywhere because the wings have a new curve to them and they jammed control surfaces (something I recall they were very surprised didn't happen in the 30G case)... give it time and it will get sorted out.
  2. It's not good for you... in the game radar is inhibited on the ground. I think at least some aircraft behave like that though I could not vouch for any of the ones in the game... more the weather radar in civilian aircraft.
  3. AT-3 has worse range than the HOT 3. I'd be more interested in anything that can give it more stand-off, not less.
  4. Ya, looks like it's a single axis geared towards the idea of choppers and (most/all?) Russian aircraft where there is a break handle rather than pedals. Still pretty cool; looks heavy and well constructed.
  5. Even half that would be obscene for Saiteks. I don't think crosswinds even hit $350 American with the hefty shipping from Croatia and are head over heals above the Saiteks.
  6. You ever hear the phrase making a mountain out of a mole hill? This is you right now. USB versions are backwards compatible. Your controllers will work in any of them. I have 3 and 3.1 ports on the back of my computer. The 3.0 hub may or may not be plugged into the 3.1, I simply don't care; 10Gbps is beyond overkill for controllers and I don't have any 3.1 peripherals let alone a 3.1 hub. Buy yourself a nice hub that will be useful for other things; mines behind my monitor in easy reach for the occasional thumb drive or charging. Even if you have no use for that functionality it's not going to break your controllers. EDIT: and to put it to rest, I just pulled my desktop out, my 3.0 hub is plugged into the 3.1 Type-A port, and nothing is on fire.
  7. There's generally no problem with USB 3.0. I have all my controllers (warthog hotas, crosswind pedals, custom made controller, tir, keyboard, and mouse,...) and they're all fine. What you've probably heard is people having problems updatung the warthog firmaare over usb 3.0 ports. I think that's the only potential for problems.

  9. All aircraft are overly difficult to destroy on the ground. Think about how often when you shoot them down you don't get credit for the kill until they impact the ground. You may destroy a wing or a rotor or whatever, but most often total destruction occurs upon impact. There are of course the occasional fireballs, but overall.
  10. S-25 should do it in one pass. Thise are my favorite for smoking aircraft on the ground. You could spend all day plinking a Hip with S-8KOM's but one S-25 will obliterate it. Bombs probably would as well if they actually hit it, but that's the challenge...
  11. Think they go roughly by the name of the files in: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Bazar\World\Shapes Kuznetsov is Kuznecow. Just fall through the deck when I try to trap. So this won't really work for what most of us want...
  12. This is a Static Object though. It won't shoot, or move if you desire that. Can you land on these ships and interact with them? Trying to do it with an actual ship gives the same invisible results.

  14. Ya, in 1.5 I dont see ships in the lake near Tbilisi in multiplayer. Same mission in single player it shows up fine (or run as host). You can edit ships onto the lake if your careful in Nevada, but no idea if they show up properly in MP off hand. I'd be interested if spawning it with MIST made it visible for everyone.
  15. They need to fix the server code so you can have a long running mission in the first place. Have you seen what happens to a mission that is up for 24 hours even with the mission paused? Hints: Lots of lag and warping. I leave a server up witg a free flight mission that restarts itself every 4 hours. Otherwise it becomes unplayable in under a day.

  17. It's also that the AI has three states, "Everything's Great!", RTB, and Dead. I know none of the aircraft are terribly over/under-powered compared to their contemporaries in the game. That's because my buddy and I, who are not terribly skilled with any of them can hop in the pit of one and take down the other. That said there is nothing like clobbering your enemy and watching him still fly perfectly. It's especially noticable when you don't have cannons to blow pieces of plane away as they just don't deteriorate. That's probably due largely to them flying with an SFM and probably very limited systems mgmt. It still makes me nuts watching aircraft with the vertical stab missing RTB smooth as silk. If that happens to you or I we fish-tail into an unrecoverable spin. If they did deteriorate a lot of the frustration might go away as they'd probably die trying to maneuver or be sitting ducks for the kill shot. Over time though you can get a feel for good places to shoot. Tails, such that if I miss my rounds should hit the body of the plane, and wing roots are my preference. It's not perfect, but it's what we have so we have to adapt.
  18. Sure, look at the MiG-21Bis app by LNS checklists in the Flight section. You can tap each one green as you do it. They even include links to graphics that tell you where the switches are in case you don't know. I wasn't really pointing at this as a fault of the campaign developers though. It would be great if the checklists for all the aircraft were in the DCS app like this and it were available for android too. By all means though, power to you guys if you want to make an app with checklists in conjunction with the campaign.
  19. Sorry, if this seems hyper-ciritcal, but this is the first pay campaign I've started walking through and I am not impressed. These things really needs better voice acting. I don't want to be forced to sit through a yawn-fest taxi sequence while being forced to listen to 'interesting' facts about C-130's. I get that someone is trying to layout what the training consists of, but shorten the flight in and get the useless chatter out. I also don't pretend to know much about the Air Force as it's not the branch of the military I served in, but do they really call someone moved on to flying aircraft after trainers a cadet? Are they even a cadet any point after they've received their commission regardless of what stage of training they're in? I'm dubious. Finally, not directly related to the mission itself, but if you're going to force us to go through checklists, maybe get the DCS app on android as well, and include interactive checklists for us to walk through so we can do it on a phone/tablet. The alt-tab dance already caused me to fail twice because of silly things I 99% of the time do, neither of which would have caused my plane to fall out of the sky. because I was trying to be thorough. I really don't need to waste ink/paper on this. I'm already tired of the second mission and I haven't gotten off the ground yet.
  20. Probably was the case. I had some double mapped axes in the open beta. Once I fixed those I could take off. 2.0 and release were fine. Too many versions * aircraft to keep track of. Thanks! :)
  21. U moves to takeoff position. I created a new mission with just a plane and carrier to test and can't move. I tried takeoff from runway, parking hot, ramp and ran yhe startup, etc.
  22. Is there a bug in 1.5 or has something changed in the takeoff procedure? I can not in any way move from the start position on the carrier. Even at full burn I am stuck in place.
  23. I was in the miltary and I'll add word of mouth from someone in the military is just as unreliable. I have heard some epically dumb stuff about weapon systems. Manuals, documentations, orders, etc. are what you trust. You need to be able to read it to be sure. There's always the word of a subject matter expert to take into account, "the manual says blah, but in my experience blerg", but I don't take anything from a persons mouth as gospel truth.
