  1. My pleasure! I always knew that logic course would be useful one day, I just never imagined it would be in the context of making missions for a flight sim
  2. lol, well put! I agree, my proposed solution certainly wasn't the most elegant one - but it works :megalol:
  3. If I'm not mistaken you can do it with just one trigger aswell. The conditions field won't be pretty and it will take time, but AFAIK it should work. We can use equivalence laws or truth table to do some redux and [OR] the results together. If we go for your example 2, which is A ∧ (B ∨ C) ∧ (D ∨ E) ∧ FA and F must always be true, so we can simplify by ignoring them for now, which leaves (B ∨ C) ∧ (D ∨ E) which is what we must test for. Through truth table we see that the following combinations make the expression true; C ∧ E C ∧ D C ∧ D ∧ E B ∧ E B ∧ D B ∧ D ∧ E B ∧ C ∧ E B ∧ C ∧ D B ∧ C ∧ D ∧ E Since we remember A and F must be true we AND in the following to all the subexpressions A ∧ F and now we have all the conditions for which the trigger should fire and we [OR] them together. In the ME it will look like so; A F C E [OR] A F C D [OR] A F C D E [OR] A F B E [OR] A F B D [OR] A F B D E [OR] A F B C E [OR] A F B C D [OR] A F B C D E Now I must admit, my boolean algebra is a bit rusty so maybe there's an easier way. But it should work! Also keep in mind I haven't had my morning coffee yet, so if some error has sneaked its way in there or my logic is false then I apologize and hopefully someone will correct me. Whee, that was fun!
  4. Does this happen for you every time? I get this as well sometimes, usually restarting the mission will solve it. I do believe it's something to do with running in windowed mode in my case.
  5. I'm not sure I understand your problem here, but setting throttle from off to idle basically means starting the engine. IIRC default key combination for this is RAlt + Home for left engine and RCtrl + home for right engine. You'll need to start the APU, have power (from APU generator or ground electric power) and flick the fuel booster switches first.
  6. Just to chime in, I run win7 64 bit and trackir 5 works with no problems at all. You don't even need to fiddle with it after installing the drivers, but you will get better results if you tune the sensitivity a bit (which is easy to do with the accompanying software, trust me). EDIT: As for hotas, if money is an object then I would say go for x52 pro. My bud that I usually fly with has one, and he's very happy with it. EDIT2: Happy birthday in advance :holiday:
  7. +1 :)
  8. Oh come on, didn't you see the smiley at the end? Yes, it's a sensible choice - I gave it a recommendation after all. No, I don't know anything - nor do I care - about your economy or anyone elses. Furthermore, being a student, I in not a position to call anyone poor and I wouldn't even if I could. It's a light hearted comment on an internet forum, no need to get offended because there was absolutely no offense intended.
  9. saitek x52 pro is generally considered the poor man's tm warthog :)
  10. Yes, it's been more or less confirmed. No info as to when what how and where
  11. One thing should be said here, though; CA shines when you have cooperation between ground elements and aircraft. The usual problem is everybody wants to be the fighter pilot, nobody wants to scout around on the ground and designate targets for them :) Edit: To elaborate a little - there is definitely a lot of fun to be had with CA if you're into multiplayer, but if you're expecting a tank sim then you're going to be disappointed. The execution is pretty basic as Charly Owl pointed out, and the terrain engine is getting a bit dated and doesn't necessarily lend itself well to ground operations. We're getting a new graphics engine though, and with a few changes CA could become a really good product.
  12. Hey Pika! For flying straight you'll want to trim the aircraft (go Otions -> Controls -> A-10C sim -> HOTAS and bind the trim commands to somewhere accessible). You'll want to retrim quite often which might seem like a bit of a chore at first but it'll change the way you fly and you'll soon look back wondering how you managed without. For learning the sim I recommend you get at least some very basic knowledge with the mission editor, to set up scenarios for yourself to practice in. If you don't want to do that, there are a lot of mission makers out there who make training scenarios, however! I recommend you search around a bit in the mods and mission forums. Also, youtube is probably the best source for tutorials once you've exhausted the ingame ones. It's a daunting task learning the systems of the A-10C, but it's also a very rewarding process. Much more so than any other flight sim I've fiddled around with! For joystick, it doesn't matter if it's 15 years old if it's of reasonable production quality. I can tell you right away however that not having a rudder axis is going to put you at a disadvantage. Get a cheap set of used rudder pedals or something, I don't think you'll regret it :) As for combined arms, if you're used to steel beasts and arma then it's going to seem rudimentary to you. That said though, it does add another dimension to the DCS World and it's still being improved upon. Happy flying!

    Condition %

Are you talking about the condition and condition-% fields in the unit group placement screens? If so then I believe that condition is the condition that will (possibly) trigger the group to spawn, and the condition-% is the chance, in per cent, that the spawn will occur (when conditions are met). I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong :)

    Column AI

Hi! I've made a somewhat arcadish column support mission for the ka-50 for a friend and myself to fiddle around with, but I've encountered some challenges with the column AI. (Most notably some of the vehicles will sometimes refuse to drive any further once the column loses vehicles, stopping the mission dead in its track). I'm very interested to hear of your experiences when setting up columns in your mission, particularily what you've found to work and what you've found doesn't work so well, peculiarities of the AI etc.
  15. Atmospheric and lighting conditions obviously make a huge difference. Look at the ground next time you're on an airliner and have a window seat, if the conditions are right your view of the ground details is far superior to that in the sim. Picking out individual cars, trucks, trains etc is sometimes even possible from cruising altitude! Edit: On the flip side, in RL it is also possible to camouflage a tank to the point where you couldn't see it within 100 meters. According to Rudel in his book, the only way you could see them then is if they turned on their engine, in which case blue exhaust fumes would be visible from some distance
  16. Yeah, sorry I'm quite new at making videos so the pace was a little too quick! If you pause at strategic locations you should be able to make out what choices I make though, and a lot of it is quite self explanatory when you try it out. :)
  17. You need to start a mission that has a ground commander (or game master or jtac) slot and at least one vehicle that can be controlled by the player. See also this short and very basic video on how to get started with CA :)
  18. They do sell it, here; http://lockon.co.uk/ That said, it's disc version. The digital download version is unavailable outside the US for reasons already mentioned in this thread. Edit: blargh, didn't see page 2. Oh well, doesn't hurt to answer twice I guess :)
  19. Definitely the zoom level where you press enter is more realistic, as you get view distortion from the starting zoom level (also, enter resets zoom and hitting enter when starting the game most definitely changes the zoom level), and HUD items and labels can be hard to read. To see this very clearly just fly in formation with someone and look over your wing at them; Their aircraft will be stretched and distorted. To see it even more clearly, zoom further out to exaggerate the effect, then go to the default zoom and see the difference In a couple other games I've played, this type of zoomed out view distortion effect has been used to simulate intoxication, among other things :)
  20. they're not f-16s :) no jk, for my part I was mostly agreeing with the last sentence there
  21. + one million!!! Can't wait for hornet, but viper will always be my number one :) (I guess su-27sm will be a good number two, though)
  22. Completely agree, but that said I've known and used the proper touch method since I was 15 (and even before that I could find most keys without looking down at the keyboard just from muscle memory). Anyone who splashes out for the rift is imo at least a borderline enthusiast pc gamer, and I'd wager most people who fall into that category know their way around a keyboard fairly well - at least to the point where they could map their most used aircraft functions to easily reachable keys. Add to that the fact that even most of the entry level joysticks have plenty of buttons on them, then that should be more than enough to service the functions of a FC-level fidelity aircraft. As for the study sim aircraft, you can use the mouse to clicky yourself around the cockpit in those. EDIT: That said though, I doubt the people who buy the rift are likely to be part of this lowest common denominator in many respects anyway, and if ED doesn't give them their fix someone else will
  23. poor guys gonna get simulator sickness
  24. Rgr, thanks for clearing that up :)
  25. Lovely model! Tailfin markings seem to be missing, though?
