For me FPS was kinda low in the cold start training mission, but this was due to number of objects near you when you start out. As soon as I took off and left the airfield FPS was as normal for any DCS module.

Three things gave me proper "Aha!" moments in regards to surviving takeoff in the Dora, I'm sure they've been stated in this thread already but I'll share anyway in case it helps anyone. 1. Pull stick really far back, otherwise tail wheel isn't locked at all 2. Give good amount of right rudder _BEFORE_ you increase throttle. This will counteract the nose twist to the left when you start rolling, which was what sent me swerving from the get go and caused me to crash 9 out of 10 takeoff attempts. If you do this then some small but firm rudder adjustments when yaw occurs are all you need. 3. When tail wheel starts jumping ease the stick almost all the way to neutral, but keep it a little to the right of center so left wing doesn't dip. The plane is eager to get off the runway and if you pull stick too much you will stall and crash. For landings I find that you really need to hold her firmly on approach. Also, Wags' vids helped a lot for me.

This is true. I hadn't heard of ED since I played Flanker back in '95 or so, when I "accidentally" came across DCS A-10 while trawling Steam for something cool to get. Now, because of that chance meeting, me and my friends all buy every ED module the moment they're released. :)

Skeleton animations is listed as one of the features/ capabilities of EDGE/ DCS 2. In earlier discussions regarding more realistic (and even playable) infantry this very point was mentioned as a prereq. I don't want to fuel speculations that there will be playable infantry as a consequence, because there is nothing to substantiate that notion atm, but it seems to me it implies greatly improved soldier models. If you were talking about soldiers as modelled in vehicles then I apologize for the digression :)

ah yes, didn't consider climbing in. thanks :)

This just hit me, and I'm sorry if it's been answered before (searched but couldn't find) ...but why, exactly, can't you hold on to the gunsight? nono haven't been drinking go away

Better "too good" visibility than too little (such as now), in my opinion.

I backed at a level giving me all aircraft. I selected the FW-190 and the others are obviously not avaiable yet. I did not however select the Mustang, as I already own that. Is it possible to get a second dora key to give away rather than a Mustang key that I have no use for?

I ended up with a hundred-something pledge, first and foremost to see the funder succeed. Aside from all flyables, the rewards I really wanted (which dictated what tier I ended up paying for) was alpha access and to get the fw-190 as soon as possible. To me most of the points of the so called matrix tier reward system seem kind of moot now that ED is releasing the individual flyables as DCS plugins anyway. I do hope to retain alpha access though, and I'm glad to see ED committed to honouring pledge promises. As for printed manuals, I think they would be nice but I'd be quite happy with just the PDF. If physical rewards were to be taken out then I personally wouldn't shed any tears, but it would be nice if ED could make some sort of symbolic amend for it. Maybe a cool making-of video with a couple of guest appearances by the TFC warbirds? I ofcourse wouldn't mind this being available to non backers as well, so long as it is actually made :) My 2 cents

I greatly prefer study sims over more simplified ones. However, The premise that ED moved from study sims to lower fi sims like FC3 is wrong. Black Shark is considered the first real study sim released by ED. Flaming cliffs 3 is the last iteration of the Lock On series. Black shark released in 2008. Lock on: modern air combat released in 2003. Even predating lomac you have the first flanker from 1995. If memory serves me right, its fidelity could best be described as FC+. It has been nearly 20 years since I played it though, so I could be wrong on that one ;) EDIT: The point being; Don't worry about it, ED have clearly stated their intention to bring more study sims to the table. Combined with recent 3rd party efforts, the future is brighter than ever imo

Great news, great pics Really looking forward to this!

works from this norway. taproot must be in the wrong norway :P

Yes, that's precisely it. To give an example, starting engine in DCS A-10C you turn on battery, flip inverter switch, turn on auxiliary power unit, wait for it to spool up while monitoring it's exhaust gas temperatures and whatnot, turn on the APU power generator, flip left and right power generators to on and then while you align your CDU you move the leftmost throttle to the 'on' position and then monitor left engine parameters as it spools up and then ... etc etc etc. In FC3 you press a key on your keyboard and the engine starts. FC3 aircraft are pretty much like the Su-25T in terms of how fiddly and hard they are to operate, in fact some may be a bit easier imo. It's a great product if you like simming but aren't into the switchology of the more hardcore titles.

Damn you sithspawn, I've had that song stuck in my head for 3 days straight

I don't understand why you would say War Thunder air plane models are better looking than DCS ones, I do play a lot of WT and my impression is the exact opposite (Although WT certainly looks very good in other departments). There are some really old models in DCS too though, so if those are the ones you're talking about then I totally get where you're coming from. They are being phased out, thankfully, and the newer ones look fantastic imo. The omission of the Cobra maneuver has been the subject of many heated debates, but even with the simplified flight model FC3-planes are still ahead of a lot of other products that are happily labeled as flight simulators.

A little F-15C AFM update - 7 December 2013
mjeh replied to uboats's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
"Another item we are working on is better sound for the Eagle to include more accurate OWS tones and buffet / "Eagle Roar"." What's OWS? EDIT: Also, eagle roar! woo! -
Yes, yes, yes!!! Thank you!

For those that have pledged $40 or above...
mjeh replied to ATAG_Bliss's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
cool, any shipping limitations? -
I think they won't release it until they've made the AFM for it (just my thoughts based on ... guesswork :) ) and if that's the case then it could be a while

As I understand it, the concern is that it will be difficult to use your peripherals properly with the oculus blocking out view of them (and your hands). I suppose there would indeed be some disfigured fingers from hastily reaching for the mouse and repeatedly hitting just about everything else than it, but if you ask me that is such a small price to pay for the gigantic boost in immersion. Who needs fingers that bend at the joints, when you can happily gaffa tape your hand to the joystick anyway. :joystick:

I'm going to put so much money into this..! Only thing I'd put more into is if ED themselves did a fundraiser for hi fi Viper, Hornet or Eagle EDIT: Or flanker how could I forget

Just a layman's opinion, but it could be overheating. Since it happens more and more frequently it could be because of the heat sink getting clogged up with dust, I have had this happen more than once. Remove your gfx card and unscrew the fan to inspect the heat sink. Removing the dust is as simple as blowing on it.

F15C Radar not working properly after 1.2.4 update
mjeh replied to karolus's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
hard to say, but no such bug with my setup. works just like before the patch -
Yes, but the fact that the A-10C module also has similar optional realism and difficulty settings doesn't make FC3 obsolete. And of course I agree the best thing is to have both options in one module, but fleshing out a DCS P-51D-level module may not even be feasible for a lot of aircraft, not to mention for a lot of 3rd party developers.
