This is what I'm considering: GREEN = already owned Red = comments / questions CPU i7-9700K (8 cores makes sense for future proofing, don't need HT for flight sims.) H/S Noctua NH-D15 GPU EVGA GTX 1080Ti FTW3 RAM G.Skill Trident Z 32GB (2x16) 3200MHz CL14-14-14-34 G.Skill Ripjaws V Z 32GB (2x16) 3200MHz CL14-14-14-34 (Both are Samsung B-Die so what's the difference???) M/B Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Elite (Same VRM as the Pro or Ultra - can't see how basic OCing will be much better???) Z370??? Storage 2X Samsung 860 Evo 500GB (OS + FS) PSU Corsair TX750 Corsair RM750x Seasonic Focus Gold 750 Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 750 (As far as I can tell there's no difference in each product line other than one is semi modular???) Case Fractal Design Meshify C Full tower high airflow (particularly with a large air CPU cooler)??? Display Acer Predator XB271HU 27" GSync IPS Controllers Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS HOTAS CH Rudder Pedals TrackIR

Any benefit to current VR hardware on an i7 vs an i5?

Looking for advice on new build

But how far can you OC the i3-8350? The Aorus boards have much better VRMs than that Asus. Right now I'm torn between the Aorus Pro or Aorus Ultra for my build. +1. -
NVMe shares bandwidth and if you're using 2x drives you may need to configure BIOS to get full speed on the 2nd drive. Q1) What motherboard do you have? Q2) Do you have any SATA drives in the system?
-
Any thoughts on the Gigabyte Aorus boards? The Elite, Pro and Ultra all have the same VRM.

How to build a gaming cmputer/purchase one

What resolution do you want to run DCS at? Apparently Nvidia has stopped manufacturing the 1080Ti chips, I'd grab a Grab a GTX 1080Ti before the stock runs out. -
Maybe check your graphics config with 2x GPUs. E.g. I didn't think DCS could utilise SLI (???). What Nvidia drivers are you running?

Intended use: 1440p VR DCS2.5 X-Plane11 So I decided to go for an Intel rather than a Ryzen build mainly because of the lack of 32GB DDR4 kit support X470 boards and higher Intel clock speeds. Still not convinced an i7 is worth it for DCS or Xplane: Need to narrow down components, below is what I'm considering, green I already have, all comments welcome. CPU i5-9700K i5-8600K H/S Dark Rock Pro 4 BK022 Noctua NH-D15 GPU EVGA GTX 1080Ti FTW3 RAM 32GP (2x16) 3200MHz CL14 / CL15 ??? Surprised there are no threads on AMDs Zen...
Django replied to Cavemanhead's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Until recently I was going for an R7-2700X build but when I realised how poor the 32GB memory support on X470 was, combined with the need for fast expensive memory to best utilise the CPU I'm now planning an Intel build. -
+1 awesome!

Do you mean recoil???
-
If you check out this video at 7:30 in an A-10C cockpit as the gun fires the vibration causes the standby compass to swirl around. I think it would be nice to see this effect in the sim.

32GB 3200MHz memory kits for Ryzen
Django replied to Django's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm beginning to feel less confident with AMD as there are so few 32GB RAM kits. Really need to go for a CAS14 3200 kit which is going to be £400+. Needing higher priced RAM seems to offset the lower cost of the CPU! Seems like now's a good time to consider an Intel i7-9700K build? -
32GB 3200MHz memory kits for Ryzen

Q) There are a lot of 4x8 kits out there, but why? -
32GB 3200MHz memory kits for Ryzen
Django replied to Django's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Q) Dual rank vs single rank for AMD? (I assume this is why there are so many 32GB 4x8 kits for AMD?) Q) Will a quad channel kit work without drawbacks in a dual channel system? -
For my next 2700X + 1080Ti build I'm tempted to just go with 2x 500GB 860 Evo's. I haven't seen one benchmark that says NVME *will* give me higher FPS or less stuttering.

32GB 3200MHz memory kits for Ryzen

Might have something to do with the RAM chips on the modules: Samsung B-Die Finder (NB this may not include all the Corsair B-Die modules.) -
32GB 3200MHz memory kits for Ryzen

I think the Trident Z product line follows on from FlareX (???), they seem cheaper anyway for a similar spec. -
32GB 3200MHz memory kits for Ryzen

I get the impression that Asus simply can't be bothered to update the Hero VII memory QVL. Some memory manufacturers seem to have done their own testing e.g.: Crucial Ballistic Elite 32GB 4x8 3200MHz CAS15 G.Skill Trident Z RGB F4-3200C16Q-32GTZRX 32GB 4x8 3200MHz CAS16 G.Skill Trident Z RGB F4-3200C16D-32GTZRX 32GB 2x16 3200MHz CAS16 ... and that's about it folks! Q) Maybe I should consider the Asus ROG Strix X470-F for better memory compatibility? -
32GB 3200MHz memory kits for Ryzen
Django replied to Django's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm having a hard time paying more for RAM than my CPU! For around £300 my choices seem to be: 3000MHz CAS15 3200MHz CAS16 Q) At this price range should I be interested in whether the RAM chips are Samsung B-Die? -
32GB 3200MHz memory kits for Ryzen

Any ideas why 32GB QVL kit support is so poor on the Hero VIII? -
Considering 3000MHz or 3200MHz memory kits for my next R2700X + Asus Hero VIII X470 build. Any recommendations? 2x16 or 4x8?

New build hardware recommendations?
Django replied to JG-1_Vogel's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I find it difficult to believe that an i7-7700 + GTX1080Ti givers you such "poor" performance. Maybe consider reinstalling your OS and give the system a complete overhall? -
I'm still steering towards a 2700X build. I like the price to performance plus no need to manually OC. Perhaps there might be a small Ryzen price drop once the next bunch of Intel CPUs is out? The i7-9700X OCing results are perhaps worth waiting for.
-
Any updates on DCS 2.5 and hyperthreading ahead of the next bunch of Intel chips to be launched this month? The i7-9700K seems the best price vs match for DCS (???).
