  1. I THINK I was shot down yesterday. In a stupor I watched low missile tracks strike two highish flying Ka50s. The message read "so-and-so killed by building". Still in the daze of the hunted and confused I took the "building" to mean that the launcher was ground based which provided some comfort. Then I saw a low fast Su27 which I managed to lock with the skhval and zoomed in enough to see a tricolor on it's tail. "Friendly", I thought and allowed myself another serving of warm fuzzy comfort. Ten seconds later, BAMB! ECRAN. Death. "Smokin' Hole killed by building". Who is this "building" character anyay?
  2. I was on Teamspeak on the 104th today and a very talkative chap in an F-15 claimed to have downed 20 Ka50s yesterday. It was on Teamspeak so it must've been true.
  3. Cranes move? I've been flying DCS since it was only available in Russian and Lomac since 1.0 and I don't recall ever seeing cranes move until now. Have I been that unobservant all this time or is this new to the update.
  4. No no. I don't think that's a bug. Can you really hear a flare dispenser in flight? I doubt you can. When you open the door you can and that seems plausible to me.
  5. I like the fact that we no longer hear flare ejection.
  6. Awsomeness!!!! Just flew an hour on the 104th. Lot's of players datalinking and calling in SEAD support. Just the kind war we've been waithing for. Great job Eagle!
  7. Slight curves fixed the problem. Never had to use them before but probably just my imagination.
  8. Any chance some changes have been made to flight control input logic with the update? My G940 was working fine with some tweaks with the Logitech Profiler and no curves, deadzones, or FFB changes in DCS Options. Now, its very twitchy with more center slop than before. I've tried bumping up FFB force in my profiler to 120% which helps but creates other problems. Config/Profiler has FFB=True. I've been flying successfully for 100's of hours with the G940 prior to the update. Thanks.
  9. 1) If you search you should find a post by a player who offered to post the sound folder from the Russian version of the game pending Eagle's approval. I don't recall how that played out. And, yes, the Russian Ecran is much better. 2) "Flight Director" is a bit of a misnomer. Yes, it does provide HUD command bars but that's the least of the functions of the mode. Primarily, it disables the autopilot while maintaining basic stabilization. Some say it's use is akin to being a silly noob who refuses to fly the way real pilots must. Others, myself included, think the Ka50 is a miserable machine to fly with the autopilot constantly butting in where it doesn't belong. For me, FD stays on unless I want Route Following or Autohover. The rest can eat my shorts. ;-)
  10. I didn't even know FC2 needed patching. I thought it was BS that needed patching so that it would be matched to FC2 in order to share an online capability. I must say this has gotten pretty confusing. I bought FC2 soley for the online pairing with DCS only to find that that is a future implementation. I see the open Ka50 slots on MP FC2 servers, and I wonder (like a previous poster), "how will this work? Will I join this server through FC2, DCS, or either? And when I wish to switch from rotors to wings, will I need to switch executables?". Now we've got FC Platninum to muddy the waters further. It's ok. I've been distracted by another Russian sim recently. I've been "buying planes" more to reward development than to buy something I want. Same is true here. Add a driveable GAZ and I'll buy it.
  11. Helicopters are no more designed to defend themselves against fighters than BMPs and APCs are. It's an airborne tank. The only way to share the battlefield is the way some MP servers are currently utilizing the Su25 and A-10: by sending them to waypoints in opposite directions from fighters. The helicopters would just be deployed at a FARP closer to that waypoint. Fighters can still come over to plink at mud movers but they will have to fly through a SA-10 barrage to do so.
  12. I've been playing on my MAC (bootcamping Vista 64) for two years now.
  13. I can't imagine what the point of FFB pedals would be. Anyway, with practice you will get used to dancing a bit during the trim process and it becomes second nature.
  14. Looks like v5.09 of the Logitech Profiler is coming soon. Let's hope so anyway...
  15. Looks like v5.09 of the Logitech Profiler is coming soon. Let's hope so anyway... Sorry...wrong place...would delete if I could...
  16. I have one profiler profile and with that the only commands are 4 zones on the mini-stick called 2, 7, 3, 4 and are assigned to various HUD modes of all the FC2 planes. X has a small deadzone and Y has none. Sensitivity for both set to zero (big curve). Everything else is assigned through the game, the only way I would ever go. I usually add a 15 curve in pitch and a FFB strngth of 60-80 depending on the plane. There's still some center slop that I'd like to see adressed but so long as I trim correctly I can fly fairly precisely.
  17. Ok...did another test. I made a quick mission in BS with T-80s placed 12 km from my helo. Tanks were just visible with full zoom. Placed same mission in FC 2 and added my Su-25T at the same altitude as the helo but 15 km out from the tanks. On several passes I never saw the tanks until I was within 2km. But... Once I knew exactly where to look I COULD see the tanks from 12 km as well with the game paused. So, Rasputin, there is some truth to your art. It isn't the angular distance so much as the ability in the Ka50 to autohover, sip your coffee, and really look with full zoom.
  18. Thanks for the picture Rasputin. I don't think anyone has ever been nice enough to actually draw for me since I was 4yo. Surprising as it may be to you I do understand angular distance and was comparing the two games at equivilant altitudes.
  19. There is something more important to me than realistic visibility, and that is visibility that matches Black Shark. At the moment in Black Shark, I can see most units from about 9-11 km. But with the FC 2 Su-25T, units don't start drawing until about 6 km. That's going to make online coordination difficult. (BTW, graphics settings for both are identical--I even matched the graphics.cfg for comparison)
  20. Quoting myself...how conceited is that? Mbot, just so you don't think your G940 is more problematic than it is, I tested the F15 a little more deeply. I don't normally fly it so I didn't realize that it is so sensitive at low speeds. And you are right that the combination of this stick and this plane is less than perfect. I did find that, in addition to the full curve in the Logitech Profiler, adding a slight amount of pitch curve in the F-15 axis options helped alot.
  21. Thanks to you both!
  22. Is there a way to turn on the formation lights on the F-15 (or any other flyable)? I notice that my wingy has his on at night but I do not.
  23. Roger that. I'm beginning to wonder if maybe your stick is having issues. There is enough centering force on mine to allow for flying hands-off for significant periods of time. I generally have the FC 2 options set at 75 % Force and 10 % shake. When I trim for an attitude the plane stays there until a apply pressure to change that attitude. Black Shark is even more solid because I keep the force at 100 %. For planes, that force is too much due to the amount of tension needed for full deflection.
  24. I currently fly or have flown both the A320 and B737-3/5/7/8/9/9ER for a living. I promise you that anyone who hasn't flown a large plane (12,500 lbs+/5700kg) in the real world would have a very difficult time landing without breaking something. With enough X-Plane time, and calm winds, you probably will survive the experience but that's about it. If you do decide to try it, make sure that you engage both autopilots prior to glideslope intercept for autoland. Oh and don't forget to disconnect autothrust after touchdown
