is it still worth it to buy blackshark?
ericinexile replied to kingneptune117's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Absolutely!!!! You feel more like a sniper than a pilot. And you quickly realize why Countries often place helo squadrons in their armies and not air forces. It's really just a fast tank that can go anywhere. It is a blast! -
Low fps while using MFD with Mavericks etc need tips
ericinexile replied to Kaptein_Damli's topic in Bugs and Problems
I think the workaround works fine. My initial disappointment was my perception that FC2 was slower than Black Shark, and therefore a step back. Having compared them with the same missions I now know that not to be so. Until ED patches (or eliminates) the wide view on the shkval, I just won't use it. I am a happy camper again. -
Try my setup from a few posts back. I don't think you will find the Eagle to be twitchy at all. It's solid, stable, and responsive. Not directed at you MBot, but for those new to FFB, it's a bit like the real world whereby you need to relax your grip on the stick every few seconds to make sure you are trimmed properly. If the "center slop" is very bothersome, then trim either slight forward or aft so that a little pressure is required. I do this in the real world as well.

G940 works fine for me. Try this for FC 2 (Black Shark is a little different). In the Logitech Profiler have FF and FFB Spring set at 100%. Have damper (whatever that is) set to 0. In the Axis settings, set X to 0% sensitivity (full curve) and a deadzone of 5-10 (roll trim center doesn't change much). Set Y to 0% sensitivity and zero deadzone. In the DCS settings, no curves, no deadzones, and FFB to your liking. For the F15 I have 80% FFB and 0 shake.

Low fps while using MFD with Mavericks etc need tips

Frazer states elsewhere in the forum that he recalled no change when scratches were removed with Black Shark. Its reasonable to suppose that the same would be true of FC 2. -
Low fps while using MFD with Mavericks etc need tips
ericinexile replied to Kaptein_Damli's topic in Bugs and Problems
Well as a test I have I changed my graphics.cfg to match the MEDIUM visibility and LOD values with Black Shark. I then pasted the Battle Mission from BS to FC 2 and added a Su-25T. "Battle" is to me the best stress test for Black Shark so it seemed to make a fair test. Framerates were identical. However, the FC 2 shkval has a wider FOV than the Ka50 at its widest setting. Thus the difference (I guess). If I avoid that widest setting things are ok. Otherwise, it is a slideshow. -

Scenes: High Vis: Med Shadows: Full Mirrors On 1900x1200 Settings are the same as BS EXCEPT that in BS I use a 512 pit and in FC2, its 256. In BS I get very little FPS drop with the shkval. With the above settings BS runs extremely well. FC 2 on the other hand is a major disappointment... -
I miss the Su25t Framerate in 1.12.

News from DCS BS FC2 compatibility patch
ericinexile replied to Pougatchev's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
As your thread title was: News from DCS BS FC2 Compatibility Patch I take it that you have news. Come on! Fess up, let's hear it! -
Regarding the Shkval: It only has a mild affect on framerate in BS for me. With FC2 the Su25t is almost unflyable with the shkval on. My settings for DC and FC2 are the same except that I have the FC 2 Cockpit resolution set at 256 instead of 512 in BS. Isn't there a way to separate the level of detail for the shkval from the detail outside?

Slop didn't really bother me since its not an input slop but rather a spring slop. I have a small deadzone that's just big enough for me to autohover and do my thing without disturbing the helicopter, yet small enough to be responsive. Trim works great throughout the entire speed range. There are two big problems: mini-stick is useless as an axis and the R1 and R2 wheels move with the throttle (and I've gone through two throttles...thank you Logitech).

G940: Can't start FC2 from Logitech Profiler
ericinexile replied to wheatdog's topic in Bugs and Problems
Personally, I don't start any game from the profiler. Too many problems. I make a dummy .bat file for each profile to "point" too and then use the global settings to force the profile I want. -
Have FC2. Can I delete FC 1.12?
ericinexile replied to ericinexile's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thanks Kuky...I searched "Delete Flaming Cliffs" and came up with goose eggs. Slap accepted nonetheless. -
I know from the FAC what is required to install FC2 (basically LO and FC2 or LO, FC, and FC2). Now that FC2 is installed can I delete FC 1.12? Can I delete LO? I like things neat and tidy and having unused stuff hanging about on my PC keeps me awake at night. Speaking of neat and tidy it would be nice if DCS and FC2 shared a GUI. See you all online after I spend a few weeks getting my stick setup for all the flyables. S!

Rise of Flight formaly known as Knights of the Sky
ericinexile replied to EagleEye's topic in Chit-Chat
I'm impressed too. They will begin beta-testing a Dogfight capability soon which will add the ability to join a MP server in progress and to respawn. Other than X-Plane it is the most realistic flight simulator I have ever played. -
Right-O! I really want the Hind and MiG-23. Of course I'm looking forward to everything in DCS's future. I still fantasize about the flying machines of the cold war. They can be easily modeled with little or no guessing on the avionics.

It seems to be but then I've never flown and F16. I used to get all proud of myself for programming the ECS but really few of us have any idea if Falcon 4 hit the mark or just gave the player the sensation that he was do something close to reality. I can say that the FM is very poor in Falcon 4. It's not terrible but it's not even close to the standard fidelity planes in LO. You can see where I lean but if you have the money and the time for the learning curve, get it...or get both. Us end-users need to be generous to the the flight sim developer world because the market is extremely thin and they need all the help they can get.

Clouds? I don't know. My job is flying and clouds rarely provide a sense of speed. And cloud BASES almost never do so because bases tend to be very indistinct as you get closer. The only cloud types that really give you the sensation of 400+ knots are the very thin stratus clouds between 10 and 25K that are maybe 10-50 feet thick. For some reason these clouds maintain their definition as you fly close. Usually its not the main body of the cloud that provides the thrill but rather the little whisps and tendrils extending from it. I think LO got it pretty close (for non-overcast clouds). Closer in fact than anything else I've flown including Rise of Flight which seems to get a lot of reps for it's clouds. Its even better than the $10 million dollar jobs they torture me with every year.

Well before we get all poo-poo on LO let's not dismiss the poor Su25 as a high fidelity model. No it's no Black Shark but there is nothing in the fixed-wing combat world even close to the Su25 as a flight model. It's magical. And there really is no place else to turn except perhaps X-Plane but then we are no longer talking combat, which I assume is what the OP wants. So I say don't wait for DCS:A10. Anticipate it, yes. But in the meantime, get LO:FC and enjoy a superb flight model.
-
Not meaning to be too contrarian but I think the sense of speed is dead on. I've flown many light planes over fields low level and the rush is the same. Ground detail helps and with terrain set high the level of detail is quite nice. I'm really looking forward to the grass that ED have promised.

Logitech G940 Hotas issues, who problems are they?
ericinexile replied to Gonzo01's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
After getting a replacement throttle, I've had no problems with my g940. I don't use the mini-stick as it was intended. Instead I assign zones to it and then commands to those zones. The stick does have a little center slop but that is a non-issue for me. Otherwise the stick and the trim work perfectly through the entire range. Sounds like the new Logitech profiler is coming but only after a very long wait. -
Su-25? landing on carrier?
ericinexile replied to little-Dog's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
More interesting is one of the Su-33 (?) takeoffs. He leaves skidmarks on his entire roll diagonally across the ramp. Weird. -
I think that's what he is asking. In other words, would a generator failure shed some non-essential avionics and would a dual generator failure shed even more? Are electrical failures or degradations even modeled in DCS? Personally, I'm satisfied with the current basic level of failure modeling but I can see how others would like more.

What's the Point of Moving Threads?
ericinexile replied to ericinexile's topic in Forum and Site Issues
I get it now. I agree with a previous poster that the "New Posts" link should either be language specific or that the user should be able to filter out threads that are not in his chosen language. As always, thanks for the discussion.
