On the basis of your comments and what I have read, I think if it was a case of just a new CPU it would be ok, but when I then need a new MOBO and RAM and SSD the upgrade is much less attractive. Thanks for your time and thoughts. Neal

Hi I have an i7 4790K with 32GB RAM and a RTX 2080; I fly only Rift S. My CPU is fairly old but problem free but I do like to have an approx 4/5 year upgrade cycle. I only use this PC for DCS. The question: is an upgrade worth the £1200? That is will I see a noticeable performance say if I went to a latest gen Intel i5 or i7. (I am not considering AMD, because I am old and change my views like an oil tanker turning!). Thanks Neal

Hi thanks for the replies. It came up in the training mission on normal landing. I have been flying the A10c for years and that shows bank angle on the hud. AoA is a challenge. Looking forward to the ‘Hell in a Handbasket’ which is pretty much how all my training for the Harrier is going anyway. Great plane to fly! Neal

Hi I am just starting to learn the Harrier and running through start-up, taxi and takeoff. When I start to taxi I am unable to engage the NWS. I have checked the bindings and it is set to my HOTAS and functions in the control panel. I have CAST showing on the HUD and no matter how many ways I have tried NWS it does not seem to work. Any advice please? Thanks Neal

I upgraded from a standard 1080 (not TI) and I personally felt it was a big step up. I cant quantify this with any data but the 'feel' was much improved. I qualify this with the fact that I have to save long and hard to be able to spend £750 on 'frippery' and I would do it again to experience the same level of upgrade. I realise this is is very subjective, but half of what we do in this hobby is subjective!

Personally adding an SSD made a massssssive difference (improvement). I also upped my RAM to 32GB which helped, although not really sure in what way, it just runs better. MY CPU is a few generations old now, but any benchmark/review suggests I would only gain a modest improvement in processing speed (circa 10%) and to be honest I cannot justify all the additional cost to upgrade for so little gain?

personally I never got on to well with Track IR, I found the head movement between real life and on screen irritating, although I did use it for a few years. I switched to VR after borrowing a Rift from a friend. I recognize the limitations of VR but I accept it for what it is.

Advice on sound problems please Hi I have a sound setup which I cant seem to get right! I have an external Amp, Bose surround speaker, Rift S, Soundblaster card, a birdsnest of cables and I use Viacom Pro (with Voice attack). At the moment all sound comes through the Rift speakers, which is limited. In Viacom I set the sound to play through my Amp and speakers with radio through Rift; the sound is great, but I do not get an audio response from the radio. Iwould love to be able to have the great sound from external speakers and radio to work properly through head speakers. Anyone able to advise please? Thanks Neal

Interesting that my ctd are happening in the p51 as well, albeit different mission?

I have found my ctd only seems to happen on the Blue nosed Bastards campaign. I will try again after doing a windows update.

Hi Yes achieve a lock with the ‘Gate’ closing on the target and flashing cross hairs and within the distance ladder on the hud and.........a big crater appears behind the target! I will try and take a picture of MFD page, If I can figure out how. Thanks Neal

Hi I have been honing my ‘kill skills’ with the A10, specifically with AGM (all varieties) and CBU bombs. The problem I have is hitting/tracking a moving target - I cant seem to do it! I start off by getting systems ready and then finding a target with TGP - Up short to point mode and then slave TGP and Mav to target- obtain lock and fire. With a stationery target great kills. When I then start an orbit to find targets say a moving column, I select a target with point mode as above fire the Mav and........invariably it misses!! What am I doing wrong? Help Neal

Hi I have just rolled back my driver by one version and flown a mission and all good (apart from getting shot down of course!). I will try the same mission that I kept getting ctd on, which is mission 1 of the Blue Nosed Bastards campaign. Fingers crossed it is a Nvidia driver issue, there have been so many updates from Windows, Oculus, Nvidia, DCS etc it not easy to pin them down. Regards Neal

Hi i have PD set 1.5 and 2xMSAA, dont use tray tool as it never seems to work. Not check FPS, if its smooth happy day overall Living the Dream!! Neal
