Mirror is BACK! But I have GREEN PLAID glass.
0414 Wee Neal replied to ChuckIV's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Hi ChuckIV I have noticed alot of 'streaks' on the canopy, when I looked closely they were rainbow colouring, I was wondering if they were an attempt at oil stains from the engine? I have also noted an improvement in dial clarity, however lots of reflection / sunshine effects. I also have the trees popping in which I never had before? Neal -
7 evenings of wing scrapping, head bouncing, flames and cussing - SIGH; a night off and then EUREKA! 5 out of 6 successful takeoffs - Tick 3 of of 5 successful landings - Tick Beer opened and relax!! Cheers all. Neal

Hi can you please advise what the scenevr.lua file does? Is it a case of just deleting and it rewrites? Thanks Neal

Hi I have a Warthog HOTAS and was looking at adding an extension, the question is what length would be best? I can always build a pedestal to raise the stick up, therefore shortening the requirement for the extension length, or I could keep the stick base at floor level and put a much longer extension? I would imagine that with the longer stick I would need a stronger spring? I appreciate that this sort of mod can be down to personal experience, of which I have none at the moment. Thanks Neal

Hi, I run an i7 4790K with 16gb Ram and I use a Rift CV1. I use DCS 2.1 almost exclusively. The question is are there any benefits in increasing my RAM to say 32gb? I will be upgrading my MB and processor at some point, but not for a few months. With my upgrade I would probably go for 32gb. Thanks Neal

Hi folks I managed to borrow a Rift DK2 and trialled flying the Spit and A10c in both 1.5 and 2.1; the experience was more fun than a gentleman should expect outside the bedroom!! I am after some advise, which I know will be personal views, but that is the strength of our forum. a. In the A10c the image was not clear and I struggled to see the detail on the dashboard, is this improved in the CV1 version? I realise that the resolution will never match a good monitor, so its more about compromise. As my only experience is with the DK1 that is why I have asked for a comparison to that? b. In the Spit the resolution was less of an issue, but ditto above? c. I felt that with DK1 head movement was good, but slightly jumpy when looking over my shoulder, is this improved in CV1 version. d. Is it possible to map a button on my TM Hotas so that I can use the Rift mouse to activate buttons i.e. as a left mouse click. Thanks in advance. Neal

Hi Micha Thankyou for your help. I checked my file structure and I had put the files in the wrong folder, once moved to the script folder it worked flawlessly. Great programme! Best regards Neal

Ikarus - Exports not working Hi I have downloaded the files and saved the folder into the saved file structure. I have then appended the line into my existing export.lua. I have positioned the front panel onto my 3rd monitor, started DCS but I get no export to the gauges; nothing at all. I have tried this is both 1.5 and 2.1. Clearly I have done something wrong but not sure what? Can anyone offer some advise please. Thanks Neal

Hi Uli as a white background you could try curtain blackout material. It comes on a roll 1500mm wide. I use it for my 3 projector curved screen. Works well. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Blackout-Thermal-Curtain-Pandoras-Upholstery/dp/B01H2SY1UM/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1501185384&sr=8-7&keywords=curtain+blackout+lining Neal

yep, running cap loz profile for A10c on a separate monitor. I am also running about 10 homemade panels through DCS BIOS. I run all the exports using JSGME. I copy and pasted the export file from 1.5 into the same folder in 2.0, worked seamlessly. Neal

Hi Brewnix and Torso thank you for your replies. I am running the three projectors through a TH2go digital using a DVI to HDMI converter. The HDMI input on the projectors. My GPU has Display port outputs and a DVI (the one I use). I use the 3 projectors as a single screen which gives me approx 170 Deg curved screen. The blending is a pain to do, but is crucial for a good single image. I have not tried Nvidia surround so will need to read up on this, I will need to see if I can get a display port to HDMI cable to bypass the TH2go? What does DSR bring to the party in this situation? Thanks for your responses, much appreciated! Neal

Hi I have a 3 Benq 1070 curved screen setup, utilising Immersive Display Pro warping software. When running v 2.1, I get smooth visuals (more of a focus for me than FPS), but lots of jaggies on the trees and shadows. I have a resolution on my main screen of 3640 x 1024, with options in DCS to choose a higher resolution and also options in windows display settings for higher resolutions. To then confuse me further there are also options with my Nvidia 1080 to use DSR! Are these resolutions all linked in some way, is any one option better than the other or I am I just being stupid? Hi Robin are you using DCS BIOS? Neal -
Hi [fsf] Ian just a wonder really, do you think ED would ever consider DCS BIOS as an official utility, or is it likely to remain a non ED supported software? Neal

CPU v GPU upgrade - Advice?
0414 Wee Neal replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi very lame question, what benefits do higher clock speeds bring to performance in DCS? If the pareto principle is true, at what point do the efforts outway the benefits (excluding the actual enjoyment of learning something new of course!) Neal -
CPU v GPU upgrade - Advice?
0414 Wee Neal replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi everyone I have duly noted the hint of caution in the posts which greatly appreciated. I have a test rig with an 3rd Gen i5 on an asus motherboard; I shall have a practice on that machine. I use this to run my DCS BIOS panel test with bot World 1.5.6 and 2.0. I think I will initially try using the utility programme and see what OC I achieve, this will at least give me a baseline to compare against. I will hen try OC through the BIOS, if it all goes south on me its no great loss! I will let you know how it goes! many thanks Neal -
CPU v GPU upgrade - Advice?
0414 Wee Neal replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi decided to upgrade GPU to GTX 1080; wow big difference in clarity and smooth image, very pleased with the results. Added extra RAM and now have 16GB, checked BIOS and realised did not have XMP enabled, did that, no noticeable difference yet. Been working on my overclocking - Question, is i best to do this through the MOBO utility programme or manual settings in BIOS? Great advice, regards Neal -
CPU v GPU upgrade - Advice?
0414 Wee Neal replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi thank you for the advice, I currently have DDR3 RAM, what would the benefits of upgrading to DDR4, which would need a new MOBO? I understand that it is better performing (?) but in reality would it be noticeable (not just benchmark difference)? I currently run the main DCS on the 3 Beamers at a resolution of 3640 x 1024 (extended to 3640 x 2104 for export of viewports to touch screen running Helios). My apologies my CPU is a i74790K. Sorry for the simplistic questions! Neal -
Hi I currently have an i7 4760k and a GTX 980. My question, is there any benefit of changing the CPU to a i7 7700k? Or am I better spending my money on a GTX 1080ti? I can do both of course but if DCS can be handled by my current CPU, then there is supposedly no real need to upgrade. Would the current CPU give me enough headroom for full DCS world 2? My other specs are in my signature.. Thanks for your views Neal
