What is stopping the Spit coming out of beta?
0414 Wee Neal replied to imacken's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Convergence question Hi this is an interesting subject and one that is steeped in the unknown, anecdotes and little written facts. I did come across the following: source - http://www.rafcommands.com/archive/02487.php There is a written description in the last post of this thread. Neal -
Hi SkateZilla tried the above and worked great, thanks. However I now have an issue with my Rift in that when I start DCS world from the GUI (VR On) the sim starts in the normal VR way with the image on the monitor but no image in the headset, although the head movement works. If I then close the GUI I have the same scenario. I now have to open Occulus GUI (which I have set to run as admin, so I havent been running at the same time as DCS) and it works correctly. I dont know if this is a setting on the GUI or a change with the Beta or something completely unrelated and just coincidence? Have you come across this before? Thanks Neal

Can I switch release version to beta and back? HiI have 2.5 release version installed, however my multiplayer server is only operation with beta version. Is there's a way to use the utility to change the release to beta and back easily without me installing a separate beta? My SSD is not big enough to have both on it. Thanks Neal

Jetseat problem - 2.5 release version Hi Andre I updated my DCS World from 2.5 Open beta to 2.5 Release, which I did as a fresh install. on the first flight the jetseat failed to work, although all motors work when tested. I uninstalled Simshaker and jetseat and reloaded all. It now only picks up the 2.5 release version and it appears to install all .lua files in the saved games folder. I have checked to make sure that it is allowed through the firewall and I have deleted the export.lua and it still does not work? Any help appreciated. Thanks Neal

Jetseat/Simshaker problem Hi f4l0 I have a Jetseat and Simshaker for Aviators, all was working on the DCS 2.5 open beta. I updated the whole install with fresh and copied and pasted saved game folder on completion. Unfortunately I now the jetseat does not work in DCS. I have tested the motors etc and that all works, any suggestions on what the problem may be? Thanks Neal -
Hi I thought I would report that I have been overclocking my GTX 1080. I have never attempted this before so thought I would give it a go. I loaded on EVGA Precision XOC and played around with the settings for a few hours. I also installed 'Heaven Benchmarking' to stress test the card (I will state that I gained this knowledge via Youtube, so although I may sprout buzz words they mean squat to me! I have set the GPU Mem clock to +125 Mhz and Mem clock to +350 mhz. Fan to a curve setting. I then ran DCS 2.5 Caucus with Rift and the improvement was noticeable I have my system setup pretty much as StrongHarm settings https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=201647 I dropped the MSAA to 0 and changed my PD to 1.4 and the whole image improved. Generally so happy! Neal

OOhhh D.Va you do have a patronising writing skill! Not sure if you deliberately start out to offend or not but can I suggest that you tone it down please? I am always interested in the acquisition of knowledge, but not if it comes with an unfriendly demeanour. I don't know you at all and am old and hopefully wise enough to form my own opinion if someone is full of Bull, the old adage of 'he doth protest to much' is a good yardstick when assessing a persons reaction to critique and your writing style comes dangerously close to this. Take this as you will.

Hi FragBum can you please advise how to do the tweaks with or without ASW? I am not sure how to manipulate ASW on or off as I cannot seem to get Occulus tray tool to work? ta Neal -
Just for fun, future aircraft module wishlist

Another aircraft I personally would love a Mosquito; what a wonderful plan! Neal -
Hi one and all I am a very keen VR convert and mostly fly the Spitfire, I also have the A10c, but that is not so good in VR due to resolution. Could anyone suggest another module that works well in VR? I have the Huey and BF109. Thanks Neal

2 DOF - First Impressions Hi BigMillerTime as a follow on to my first post: Unpacking and construction of the frame proved relatively straightforward, the only critique was that the details of fixings for the motors was sparse and I resorted to looking at the photos of the DOFReality website, where all was made clear. The original seat that I obtained was from a Toyota Corrolla and it did not fit because the runner rails had all sorts of brackets which would have required more metal working skills than I posses. I the visited my local car breakers and spent a happy hour crawling around in the cars looking for a seat which had flat runners. I managed to find 2 vehicles, an Audi TT and a BMW 1 series; I plumbed for the BMW as the seat had more adjustments. I had no problems in fitting this seat to the frame, although there was no guidance as to whether its exact position on the frame was important to balance or not? The electrical connections and PC connections were all trouble free. The software installation and downloads etc went well, although you do have to follow the instructions carefully, especially the patching bit. I also, being a typical bloke, never read the bit about running the simtools manager and Simtools Engine before you start DCS or link to the motors doesnt work - No bigy really. The first test flight was an experience - I must point out that I fly with Rift and almost exclusively the Spitfire, with Warthog HOTAS and MFG Crosswind. I started Ravens settings in Simtools and went straight into a free flight in Normandy. I found the whole motion violent and extremely sensitive and when I tried in the Huey; I almost did!! (No criticism of Raven at all). I reset the Simtools settings to default and tried again, the experience was much less violent, I was very surprised at the level of movement you feel. I then spent many hours gradually tweaking the force (%) of the movement to reach a compromise between maximum movement sensation and vomit inducing throw around movement! This is very different for the A10c and Spitfire, which on reflection is obvious. I also found that careful adjustment of the joystick curvature helped to 'soften' the chairs reaction to the inputs. Interestingly over a few days my settings increased (%) to almost match Ravens settings; obviously just a case of getting used to the sensations. I have over the last 2 weeks been just flying and trying takeoff, landings and Epsom Campaign and only in the Spitfire, the complete setup is a joy and very immersive, aside from the experience of motion sickness in the Huey on the first day, I have not felt sick, unless I am in a flat spin after hitting a tree!! Now to be critical! The play in the motors i.e. free movement at the end of the motor arm which is approx 10mm on the right motor and 5mm on the left creates a clunky/jerky movement, felt mostly when using the pitch axis. The movement on the roll axis is smooth and is great in a full roll. The heave and surge also work well. I am investigating if there are settings/adjustments that can alleviate this jerky movement, it is holidays in Russia so I have not yet received a response from Igor. All of that being said the experience is very enjoyable and when my beer swilling friends tried it there were very big smiles all around! Good purchase? Hell yes. Value for Money? Yes. 2DOF sufficient? Yes - BBBBBBut, I will probably get the upgrade kit later. In summary - Flying Huey makes me feel sick, the spit does not, nor the A10c. The combination of Rift and movement is truly euphoric, which for me has not diminished. Regards Neal

2 DOF - Setup phase One Hi everyone and especially Raven for letting us all know about this platform. I received mine today in 2 packages, both a bit battered. Allot of attention was given to wrapping all the parts to minimise damage. All the parts were individually wrapped in bubble wrap and all were in perfect condition. The fixings are all in individual packets, labelled for each section of the build. A full set of allen keys and spanners are also provided, which is very helpful. I followed the instructions provided by DOFReality via an emailed link. They were fairly easy to follow, however the selection of the correct bolts needs a bit of care! All the metal frame parts are well made and substantial. Please see the attached photos for the first phase. I will take more photos for the next stage tomorrow. Regards Neal

Hi BigMillerTime, the platform got delayed in customs, so only received today. putting the kids to bed then will start assembly. I will post as I progress. very happy to share experience as i progress! Neal

Hi I have setup my PC and have connected to a AV amp via an optical cable. When I run tests in Windows this works seamlessly and ditto with Youtube clips etc, sounds are great. The problem comes when I start DCS either 1.5.8 and 2.2 I have no sound at all? If I use a 3.5mm jack to Audio plug (Red and White) everything works fine. I have a SB Audology Z sound card. Could anyone suggest what the problem could be? Thanks Neal

Have you tried with 2.2?
