CPU Hit TJ Max A Few Days Ago
Konovalov replied to 636_Castle's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well I think it should be option b). When a Intel CPU reaches TJMax it throttles down in order to avoid any damage to the CPU from overheating. If you are worried then there is no harm in applying new thermal paste and re-seating your heatsink. Then stress test and monitor temps. -
All I can suggest is to reinstall otherwise you can follow the instructions in the troubleshooting FAQ within this forum section and hopefully someone with a better understanding of FC2 mechanics can pin down the problem based off the info and files you provide.

You are not the only one with the Nav ILS freeze game bug/problem Scrambles, I replicated exactly what you describe in FC 2 version 1.2.1. Flying the single mission in the A10a where you do the basic navigation of takeoff, flying 12 to 14 waypoints and landing at another airfield. I had no problems up until approach for landing where I hit the 1 key to bring up ILS while in Nav mode. At that point the game froze with sound still playing constant. I had to CTRL ALt Delete and go into Task Manager to close down FC2. After a bit of searching it appears we are not the only ones to have this problem. Not sure if this is a bug in the sim or the missions that came with it. Here is the thread which describes the same problem: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=54422 Sadly I haven't been able to find any solution short of not using ILS on landing. :(

Do you have any mods installed or is this a clean install? Is this Flaming Cliffs 2 or older Lockon?

Power5, The Snipping Tool comes standard with Windows 7. Just type "Snipping Tool" in the "Search programs and files" from the start menu. Very easy to use.

Are you confusing the i5-760 for something else? On that chart the i5-760 is ranked at 69 on the chart with a score of 4558 CPU Mark. Your Core 2 Q6600 is ranked down at 164 with a score of 2976. Also the AMD option suggested may be a good cheap alternative in particular if you can carry over your old DDR2 memory. -

I don't think anyone can say for certain how well DCS A10 will run on a given system as what has been released are beta versions only. My guess is that DCS A10 will run well enough on this kind of rig if you are prepared to involve yourself in overclocking the i5-760 from it's stock clock up to around 3.6 to 4Ghz. Being on such a tight budget I really recommend that you wait another week or so when Intel release the Sandybridge CPU's. I expect that there will be some price drops at retailers on the existing i5 and possibly i7 lines of processors. Hopefully by then your limited budget may take you further. :) -

For around 250 quid you could grab yourself an Intel based system such as a Intel i5-760 CPU, Asus P7P55LX Mobo, and 4GB (2x2GB sticks) PC3-12800 DDR dual channel RAM. You can overclock the i5-760 easily up to 4Ghz with ease. When you have the spare cash you may want to then later upgrade your GPU from the GTX260 to something more capable of running DCS A10 with lot's of eye candy. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-i5-760-s1156-lynnfield-quad-core-28-ghz-8mb-cache-core-ratio-21x-95w-retail http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-p7p55-lx-intel-p55-express-s1156-pci-e-20-(x16)-ddr3-2200(oc)-sata-3gb-s-sata-raid-atx http://www.scan.co.uk/products/4gb-(2x2gb)-corsair-xms3-ddr3-pc3-12800-(1600)-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-9-9-9-24-xmp-165v If you can wait a week or two to see how things settle down with the release of sandybridge CPU's then that would be a better choice. But if you need an upgrade now and can't wait then go for it. -
Use CPUz program and take a screen shot of it with the Windows Snipping tool. Like the below. :smartass: And forum FAQ's page for options on posting images/screenshots here: http://forums.eagle.ru/faq.php?faq=vb3_reading_posting#faq_vb3_attachments

One other thing I forgot to mention is that given you have a decent sized 24 inch screen the GTX460 may be ok but something like a GTX570 may be better suited to the kind of resolution that you want to run. -

I agree with the above. Why rush. Sandybridge CPZ's by Intel are out soon and hopefully they will shake up the Market a little on pricing. So I would recommend wait and see regarding both the CPU and also DCS A10. That will enable you to make the most informed decision and hopefully get the best bang for buck. -
I guess then the easy workaround is to use a cheap mouse just for FC2 and DCS Blackshark. I can't see that being a problem since the mouse only realy is used in the menu screens. It's a strange one. :noexpression:
-
So are you saying that you are not even sitting in the cockpit when a mission loads up?
-
Very strange. I had been experiencing major problems with my FC2 install where I could launch the game no problem into the menu screen. Then when I launch a reply, mission or quickstart it would go back to desktop and a "launcher.exe has stopped responding" message would pop up. I would click on cancel and it would still go into game but I was having all sorts of problems with bullets and bombs foating (suspended) from where they were dropped or fired and other graphical anomolies which rendered FC2 unplayable. Bottom line the only thing that fixed it for me was a re-format of my hard drive. So right now I am re-installing a couple of bits of software at a time and then testing FC2 and DCS Blackshark to make sure the problem hasn't popped up. At this stage I am using my Logitech MX Revolution mouse but without the Setpoint software which I haven't got around to re-installing.

Possible hardware problem
Konovalov replied to Konovalov's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Finally sorted After trying all sorts of things over the last few weeks I resorted to re-formatting my hard drive and started from scratch. Thankfully it appears to have done the trick. Hopefully the problem doesn't reappear. Here is to a great 2011 and hopefully many more DCS modules to come. :) -
Major problems sorted with a good old reformat Well after almost chucking in the towel and in despair I decided to do a complete re-format of my system drive. And after a couple of hours of reformat and installing Windows 7 along with updates I then set about re-installing Flaming Cliffs 2. To my immense relief it all went smoothly. No hanging bullets or bombs. No wobbling wings Windows messages of "launcher.exe has stopped responding". Happy days at last and my persistence has been rewarded. :cheer3nc: Hopefully now I can get to the serious business of mud moving with the Rook. Oh and Happy New Year to all. :yay:

If only I could find that funny. Could anyone shed any light on what might be causing my problems?

Error files continued And short file errors Any ideas as to what the problem is? Desperately want to fly the Rook. :helpsmilie:
-
Error files After exiting the game I went into the Temp folder and saw both a Error and errors text file as per below: Error Continued next post.....
-
Tried a re-install onother hard drive Ok I tried a re-install on my secondary hard drive. Obviously before running for 1st time the Temp folder was empty. I ran the game and went into the Replay Demo menu and played the Su25 cluster bomb track. Below is a screenshot showing the cluster bombs simply coming off the rails and stopping dead where they were released and not moving/falling at all. Also when viewing from cockpit the wing roots slide back and forth slightly and when looking forward the 3 probes/antennae slide from side to side. They should be fixed and not move. Also the windows Application.exe has stopped operating message came up.

I have the same graphics problem and it's driving me nuts I just cannot get FC2 running properly as I have the same graphical bugs. Examples of these graphical glitches are: 1.Firing the cannon on any aircraft leaves a trail of tracers and bullets frozen in the sky. 2. Msta SP artillery where a whole host of artillery rounds hover around the barrell seemingly frozen. 3. On the Su25 the nose antenna things move from side to side and also when looking left and right the wings move slighly. 4. The default Su25 track replays that come with FC2 show the Su25 setting up it's pass and dropping it's cluster bombs only for them to sit hanging in the air motionless. These problems are only with a clean install of FC2. All I did was install Lockon v1.0 from my disc into C/Program files (x86)/Ubisoft. Then installed FC2 disc onto same hard drive C/Program files (x86)/Eagle Dynamics/.. No mods have been installed. No patch is installed because the disc/boxed version already has patch up to 1.2.1. I have replaced my graphics card and also fitted a new PSU. I have stress tested my system with Prime 95 and found no errors at all. System is stable with no overheating or issues under Prime 95 or 3DMark06 stress tests. Finally I deactivated FC2, uninstalled it and tried installing again to the default install path. The same problem persists with graphical glitches as described above. One other strange problem I get is that I have no problem launching the program from the shortcut to the main menu. However when I then select a mission, track/reply, or quickmission I lauch it and a windows message Launcher.exe has stopped working..... I click on cancel to remove the message and it still loads up the mission, quickmission or track/replay. I'm really frustrated with all this as I really want to invest time in flying the Su25 and Su25T but these graphical glitches are killing it for me. Could it be a faulty disc that I have? Should I try installing FC2 to a different folder rather than default or to my secondary hard drive? :helpsmilie: Here is an Error file I found in the Temp directory of FC2 install: Immediately below the Error file in the Temp folder is a errors file: Does this mean anything? Could I have a faulty disc from which I have installed FC2?
-
Yep. That is excellent advise. That's how I overclocked my E6600 back in the day. Turn everything down and OC the CPU. Stress test it and see how far you can take it. Then move onto memory and so on. That way it is easier to locate the cause of a failed OC. Little steps/changes at a time.
-
In that case I guess it's down to features and finding the best price card. Go with the 5750 if you seriously consider Eyefinity down the line and generally it handles AA a little better than the GTS450 which may help at lower resolutions. There really is very little to seperate the two cards. Flip a coin or go for the cheaper of the two if neither of their differing feature sets matters to you.

Can you not squeeze your budget up to a GTX460?
