Got an email this evening from Simware in Europe and they have it on their site as available 30th April 2010: http://www.simw.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=dsp_product_details&pid=2354 Nothing new yet on the Fighter Collection shop for guys like me in the UK: http://www.kengray.co.uk/lockonbuy.htm We are so close now I can smell the avgas. :pilotfly:

I previously purchased the FC spiral bound manual from the fighter collection website. Will we get a FC version 2 spiral bound manual in the same format as the one I currently own as it does say in the announcent that there will be a new manual? Is it worthwhile to purchase bearing in mind that I already own v1.1 manual? PS excuse any typos as doing this from my iPhone while waiting at train station to collect my better half after a long day at the office.

Which version of Win 7 should I get for DCS:BS/A10C & FC2?
Konovalov replied to andyfoot's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and haven't looked back. XP was great but this is better. -
This all sounds very promising. Just viewed the Mig29 v AMRAAM video on ED Youtube site. I'm thinking about giving up mud moving for this air to air stuff.

Oh that is really nice. I'm frothing at the mouth with excitement. I even spent my lunchbreak today ready through parts of the FC manual (v1.1). :joystick: This must have been uploaded onto Youtube late this afternoon because earlier today I viewed the most recent being a Su27 ground attack video with rockets and bombs and also a Su25T SAED tutorial.

Looking at your sig it looks like your system is a very new build. And considering it's high specification, the only thing you are missing is an SSD drive. If I was you I would definitely jump at it with the Intel 40GB drive as a OS drive. With SSD's I keep hearing how this can make such a big difference to ones computing experience. If you are not sure then perhaps hold off for another 6-9 months as there are so many new developments in the SSD market all the time. Also hopefully SSD prices which have spiked upwards in recent times will have come down towards the end of 2010.

Now the memories are flooding back.

Forget that. I'd rather dust off an old Microprose fave from the end of the 1980's when I was a teenager. I'm thinking of F19 Stealth Fighter where they got the shape of what actually was the F117 totally wrong. Apart from that floored bit of guesswork they actually did a pretty good job with it. Who needs DX11 and hexacore CPU's. Give me a Commodore Amiga 386 and F19 to fly. :joystick:

Gulftown i7 980x Six core + DCS
Konovalov replied to hannibal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Check out this new article at Toms Hardware regarding the new Gulftown with 6 cores and Hyper Threading: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/hyper-threading-core-i7-980x,review-31842.html Summary: a total waste of money for DCS, flight sims or gaming. Better off with either the i5-750 or an i7-930 instead which can both be clocked happily above 3.8 to 4.2ghz. -
 Superb.

I should have put my reading glasses on as I didn't notice your ram speed compared to your FSB. Yes, definitely change it to 1:1 ratio. That way you focus on the CPU side of overclocking. Then later you can try overclocking or finding your best memory speed and timings.
-
One thing I didn't mention earlier. Some motherboards can exhibit strange behaviour or characteristics. With my m/b being the P5B Deluxe many users can get a FSB up to about 360 stable and then past this the problems begin. However if I skip from 360 to above 400 FSB with a lower CPU clock multiplier can be back in business and stable. As I said earlier I don't have any experience with your type of mobo. Might be worth taking a look around some hardware forums and pick the brains of other owners of this mobo. Your CPU might be hot but there may be something on your mobo causing the instability.

I guess one's purchase of a video card should be principally based on his or her monitor size and what resolution it is along with the type of games they play. Obviously flight sims generally are more dependent on CPU speed and pure Mhz. I have been a long time Nvidia user but ATI's Eyevinity technology really impresses me. Flight sims with 3 monitors in portrait mode would rock.

You could try re-seating your CPU HSF with new thermal paste applied. Perhaps the HSF isn't making ideal contact with the IHS of the CPU.

Agree with what EtherealN has said. Your CPU temp of +80 is very high. My system as per my sig runs at temps of 35 idle and 60-62 degrees C when running Prime95 stress test at 100% load on both cores and temp sits there around 60 for 12 hours on the trot. Now that is with an overclock of 804mhz above stock and my core voltage as measured by CpuZ is 1.336v. I wouldn't run a system that if under full load reaches +80. Everyones systems are different even if the same spec. So just plenty of trial and error to find your own safe overclock that gives you some extra free performance without turning your system into burnt toast. Unfortunately I don't have any experience with the P35 boards so I can't give you any specifics. The best way to go about overclocking in my limited experience is "baby steps". Make one change at a time and make it a small change. Stress test and if it passes make another small single increase then test again. Repeat until it fails. When it fails scale back down one notch and test again. If it passes then do a long stress test (say 12 hours) and if it passes you know that is your safe limit. Good luck sir. :)

I'll take the number 3 with blackbean sauce and an order of prawn crackers. :D

New DCS:Ka-50 and FC2.0 sound engine

I am guessing good news for sound in game full stop be that if you are an onboard user or have a dedicated sound card. -
Gulftown i7 980x Six core + DCS

I'm also starting to think about holding off on an upgrade. Might stick with my E6600 Core 2 Duo at 3.2Ghz for another 6 months. -
My new rig for the FC 2.0!
Konovalov replied to 4c Hajduk Veljko's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Very nice pics. Look forward to your overclocking and benchmark results. -
Thanks guys for the advise. I'll ponder over it for a bit. :book: One thing I wasn't aware of was that if I filled the other two memory banks with another matched pair of DDR2 that I would loose dual channel. If that is the case then my only real option is to remove the 2GB kit and replace it with a 4GB kit (matched pair). One thing I didn't mention was that I do quite a bit of RAW processing of my photos from my Nikon DSLR and the processing software that I use is a bit of a memory hog so that is something else to factor in. It's funny how volatile memory prices have been in recent times. I found a spreadsheet I created when I built my last system from back in December 2007. At the time I paid £195.77 for a matched pair of Corsair memory as per in my signiture. Now I can pickup a 2GB kit for 1/4 of that price and 6 months back it was even cheaper. In hindsight I should have upgraded when memory prices were rock bottom and dirt cheap.:cry_2:

I only wish ubisoft and the guys that were responsible for silent hunter 5 could read the above few posts. What an incomplete bugged out mess that was. So ignore any nagging for a release and just release when u guys are happy with it. I'm sure people here can find things to occupy their time.

My new rig for the FC 2.0!
Konovalov replied to 4c Hajduk Veljko's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Sounds like a nice rig. I'm jealous and feeling insignificant with my E6600 still chugging away. :smilewink: A few days of getting to know your new system then let the overclocking commence. I feel a +4.2Ghz overclock coming on with this liquid cooled system. However I would have gone with an i7-930 if available considering this being a new build. Apparently they have a little bit more overclocking headroom over the i7-920. -
Almost every modern day combat flight sim that I can remember models US aircraft. If it wasn't for the original Flanker series all we would have would be F16's, F15's, AH-64's, A-10's, F117's (F19 game title), F18c and e's and so on. I for one am massively grateful for the Flanker series, Lockon, and the DCS series. Yes, it would be great to get some Euro aircraft but quite frankly I will take what I can get in this day and age.

nvidia latest driver alert
Konovalov replied to diveplane's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I don't know about the ATI handles BS better than Nvidia bit. However the ATI Infinity technology looks quite impressive and for me would be a strong selling point in upgrading to a ATI card for flight sims in the future. 3 screens in portrait mode looks very nice. -
I read through this thread from July 2009: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=43405 Starting to think I should just go for another 2 x 1GB sticks matched pair memory and see how that goes. Currently I have in my system 2 x 1GB Corsair Dominator XMS2 800Mhz PC2-6400 CAS 4 2.1v (product code TWIN2X2048-6400C4D). The best similar spec that I can find is something like this from Crucial for £52. It has similar voltage recommendations and is same PC2-6400 (800mhz) and cas 4. I did notice however on the same e-tailers site a Geil Black Dragon 2 x 1GB matched kit for £44 and a Corsair kit for £49. Any suggestions as to what to go with?
