  1. 100% agree. I bought my Dell 27" 1440p display 4 years ago and the jump from 1080 24" was major. Only thing I miss now is G Sync and these fast refresh rates that simply weren't around when I bought this panel.
  2. The only thing I feel is missing in your spec sheet is an SSD as your operating system drive.
  3. I did a clean install of win10 from win7 home. Downloaded setup onto USB stick, new fresh back up and then installed. No need to worry about remnant drivers or software. No regrets. Game performance seems about par with Win 7. And it's free.
  4. 27" Dell 2560 x 1440 per my sig. Would love a 34" ultra wide screen curved monitor with 100hz + and Gsync. That's the target sensory upgrade for 2017 along with new GPU to power it. For now just have to plod along with 60hz.
  5. If it was me near the end of March I would try to hold off till the NVidia Pascal cards come out. In particular given that you would like to drive a 4k display I would wait and see. If you can't wait three months then by all means grab a 980Ti.
  6. Thanks Lordbaldur. You are right there has been very little content over last 6 months for the Rook. It's a great aircraft to fly for those that perhaps have not as much free time in the real world. Nice vid.
  7. New clouds for DCS 2.0 are in the works so perhaps the cloud flickering will be resolved with this development. Current clouds are very dated and detract from the otherwise excellent improvements in 1.5/2.
  8. i7-950 @ 4.2 has done me fine over last 5 + years. First ran at stock, then oc'd to 3.8 then up to current 4.2. Only other upgrades on this X58 platform have been doubling the memory from 6 to 12gb Tri channel, SSD OS and programs drive, and finally probably the most important and often changed component being the GPU. Current 970 was a big jump from old 460. Happy with the mileage that I have got out of my X58 i7-950 combo. Only regret was not waiting for Sandybridge.
  9. I agree with Bitmaster. I have a 970 which works great with my 27" 1440p 60hz Dell but on 4K or faster refresh I doubt it would cut it. Something is just not right.
  10. 1080p then the 970, any one is perfect. Get the cheapest you can get. Consider a blower fan design if your case airflow isn't great or if temps are an issue. Most 970's will overclock to 980 levels. Even at 1440p resolutions the 970 handles DCS very well.
  11. Very slick and a great way to promote DCS.
  12. At that low resolution screen the 960 should pair up well. Hopefully those with 960's can provide feedback.
  13. If you are looking to increase your screen real estate to a big 34" then possibly another 970 in SLI and definitely overclock that 2500k to plus 4ghz. I would wait and see how your system fares with DCS 2.0 and the more detailed maps such as Nevada.
  14. Are you using DCS 1.5 beta?
  15. To do the GTX980ti justice I would suggest a nice big monitor at 1440p or greater.
  16. Yes a single 970 will more than be able to cope with any situation in DCS at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Get the cheapest you can find unless you like aesthetics due to having a windowed case.
  17. Credit card has another workout today. No one tell the Mrs please.
  18. Hi Mad Dog 7.62, I take it that you are not keen on building your own rig given that you mentioned you bought your current system from iBuyPower? Have you given any thought to what kind of display size and resolution (or multi-monitor config) you would be aiming for? Is your budget for a complete new system including peripherals such as keyboard, mouse, monitor? Or is your proposed USD $1000-1200 spend just aimed at the system tower itself? On a side note you could try overclocking your i7-930 and gain an extra 1ghz (give or take) clock speed for free. Then spend a few hundred bucks on a graphics card and SSD for a more nippy system.
  19. Gorgeous.:) This truly is DCS World. A vast and ever growing collection of survey sim level aircraft spanning the globe. Predictions for the death of the combat flight sim were clearly premature.
  20. I5 is all that is needed. Hyper threading has it's uses with photography software such as Photoshop and other programs. I think there may be some games software which use HT and if you play those particular games or have software that benefits from HT then by all means consider it. I have an old i7-950 Bloomfield cranked up from 3.07 to 4.2ghz and when gaming I disable HT. As someone already suggested use the saving in CPU towards either SSD or better GPU. Remember that soon DCS 1.5/2 will arrive with a reported significant move away from the CPU to the GPU.
  21. As many have suggested here I would recommend to wait for DCS 1.5 with the EDGE DX11 engine which should be only in a month or so. The move from the current DCS graphics engine which is DX9 and up to DX11 will transition the balance of power from the CPU and to the graphics card. I would also strongly recommend to watch the Matt Wagner DCS2/Nevada map Twitch feeds (also on YouTube). In particular the first few reveal quite a bit about what is coming with the new engine. See how your current system runs with DCS 1.5. My guess is that the AMD CPU is holding you back but worth waiting to see what impact EDGE makes. I say hold off after just removing my ancient GTX460 1GB card this afternoon for a shiny new Gigabyte GTX970 G1 Gaming card. :smilewink: I feel the GTX970 is a good value fit for my Dell 27" 2560 x 1440 @ 60hz display. Also with DCS 1.5 the new engine should support SLI and this might be worth my while down the track. But for now the GTX970 keeps me happy. Only thing is I am going to have to consider a platform upgrade come start of 2016 as the X58 based system and i7-950, albeit o/c to 4.2ghz, is getting a bit long in the tooth. :(
  22. Q & A followed by the Twitch stream over the last few weeks have been very informative for the customer to get a better understanding of what DCS World 2 will bring to the table in terms of improvements and new features. More of this please. In addition to satisfying the current DCS community I hope this also garners further interest from outside and brings more people into the DCS world. Thank you Matt for spending some of your personal time on the weekends to deliver these Twitch live streams and Q & A sessions. It is greatly appreciated.
  23. Current Gigabyte GTX460 1GB card eagerly looking forward to being put out to pasture by the time DCS2 is released. The important question will be what to replace it with.
  24. It appears that I am in the slight majority with a 27" @ 2560 x 1440. Though my old GTX460 cannot cope with such screen res and will in the not too distant future be removed for a GTX980ti or new AMD card.
  25. Except for some monitors in the Dell range.
