The data on the F-5 is inaccurate.
-
No, it's not. F-15's first flight was in '72, Flanker's was in '77, M2k's was in '78. It's firmly within the 4th-generation of fighters. It doesn't have an AMRAAM nor an R-27ER equivalent, but the aircraft itself is very much in the same league as the aircraft that do have those tools at their disposal.

Yesss please Mirage IIIC!

First couple flights with the Gazelle I was getting simultaneous pilot-induced oscillations in all three axes but after a day I'm starting to tame this beast. Some things like the yaw rate of that fenestron at maximum input feel like they're just operating outside the laws of physics, but if Polychop says that's accurate behavior I'll take them at their word. Everything else is done so well, they've definitely earned some benefit of the doubt from any flight model critics. By far this is the best, most polished beta release of any DCS module to date. Astoundingly well done, Polychop! Looking forward to your future work very much!

GUIDE: The advanced barrel roll or how to outmaneuver 27ERs
pyromaniac4002 replied to Croncat's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
Nothing hits from 6 nm in a tail chase against a fighter. Obviously it should if we're talking about an ER or any of the medium range stuff, but ED has consistently vetoed that argument. At first I thought this thread was talking about a head-on engagement, and if that were the case and it wasn't something we already know then you would've had some useful information, but this is nothing. -
It's always baffled me too. Anyone who's completely honest about wanting a top-notch realistic military flight sim with 4th-gen fighters is forced to acknowledge how essential an F-16 module is in accomplishing that. For the most part I think it's just that the people with a personal agenda that puts the F-16 as a lower priority are louder about it than the rest. edited. If we live long enough, I'm sure we'll see a DCS: F-16C. It's just an absolute necessity in the subject matter which DCS gives the most attention and whether it's ED or 3rd party, someone is going to do it. We know they have the information to make it, we know it will instantly be one of the most popular modules (if not the most popular outright), there's too much common sense involved that's supports the idea. My bet is once the F/A-18C is out with its A/G radar and the other basic foundations of multirole airflcraft, an F-16 announcement won't be too far behind. Everyone here who wants to tear down the F-16 in the hopes of a MiG-31 or something will just have to live with it.

Red Flag 4 Hitting the new NTTR Theater for DCS World!
pyromaniac4002 replied to FLANKERATOR's topic in Tournaments & Events
Another excellent Red Flag experience! Thank you to 104th for organizing and hosting, thank you to our fellow participants, and thank you to my F99th guys who spent multiple evenings practicing and getting back up to speed from the long hiatus since the last event. It was an honor to fly with the aggressors and we're eagerly awaiting the next opportunity to burn some virtual fuel with all of you again. -
I'm in F99th (Fighting 99th) and we're always open to new prospects. If you'd like, come fly with us on our NTTR server, assuming you have it. Like most of the groups you'll find here, we've got people in to BMS, ArmA, Squad, and the like in addition to DCS. You can join our teamspeak at ts.f99th.com:9179 and have a chat, and if it feels like a good fit we'll get you on the path to joining. I personally won't be on until later today, but you should have no trouble finding people to fly with any time on the weekends and weekday evenings.

[CLOSED, UNHELPFUL BICKERING] M2000C so far...
pyromaniac4002 replied to fjacobsen's topic in M-2000
I said two things: 1. Muppet is not "weeping" here. 2. Nobody cares. Apparently it wasn't clear to you the first time, but it doesn't mean you should post more of your unrelated bickering with somebody who isn't even a participant on this thread. -
I would love to have a jammer so powerful it jams my own radar. Please, please, please implement it!

[CLOSED, UNHELPFUL BICKERING] M2000C so far...
pyromaniac4002 replied to fjacobsen's topic in M-2000
Nobody cares. I don't see Muppet "weeping" here recently, so are you posting your screenshot all over the forums or what's your gameplan? On a less stupid note, does anybody know where the parking brake is or how to set it? I've read it in several places in the manual saying to set it as part of the startup procedure, but not how to actually do it. And I've been unsuccessful straining my neck around with TrackIR and mousing over different things in the cockpit. -
Missile/Contrails smoke disappear too fast.
pyromaniac4002 replied to Peter5on's topic in DCS Core Wish List
+1 The contrails in 1.5 are simply too impressive to not have them linger a lot longer than they currently do. -
The Mirage III is the French delta wing you're looking for when it comes to the matchup with the MiG-21. And even without the 2000's 4th-gen goodies, the combat experience of the IAF in the Six Day War would suggest the Mirage had the Fishbed's number pretty damn well. The 2000C should match up pretty similarly as the FC3 fighters do with the MiG-21, it'll just be a lot more awesome with a full DCS-level module.
-
Is there any word on how long 1.5 will be in open beta before it's pushed to release? This is, after all, a much more intensive overhaul than your average "add some German localizations and fix a nav lights bug" patch, so I'm wondering if they're planning on doing the same week-ish thing as has been the case for most patches in open beta. I'm always hesitant to take up the space for a 2nd DCS installation if it's just going to get pushed to release in a week anyways.

There's nothing wrong with some high flying on the way in or out, but once you get to the combat part you're going to want to get down to the deck quick. I mean, if you want to live that's what you need to do. You can attempt a high, fast high-energy shot to begin with, but if you stay at altitude the baddie is going to trash your missiles in no time in the draggy air and then take a shot at you that outranges your own missiles by about 10 miles. Plus you won't be able to turn effectively above 26,000 feet. So even if you don't die, you're stuck in a defensive situation that you can't get out of until you burn half your fuel extending or a friendly comes along to give the baddie a reason to stop chasing you.
-
Can't wait for the 2000C but I gotta say, if someone would make a Mirage IIIC it would really brighten my day.

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 2
pyromaniac4002 replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
Cutting down on the number of lives doesn't sound too bad to me but I don't know if limited munitions is a particularly good idea, at least as long as this event is open to the public. Pubbies can't be counted on to have the discipline or the concern for their teammates to maybe take a couple Sidewinders instead of a full 8 AMRAAMs or forgo loading up every last Maverick and leaving nothing for another A-10 following behind them. As to the number of lives, I think 2 or 3 would be good, but I wouldn't be upset if they slashed it all the way down to 1. When everyone's playing with only 1 shot, the pace slows waaay down along with the enjoyment factor. And nobody likes it when something stupid happens to get you killed like a friendly crashing in to you from the opposite end of the runway on takeoff because it was nighttime and his lights were off and he ignored the 3 sets of F-15C headlights barreling down the runway at him. *cough*sgat*cough* :P -
Trust me, it's sufficient. It's the exact same thing that was used for decades before precision-guided munitions became the norm and I'm sure anyone who has been on the receiving end of a dumb bomb CCIP/CCRP attack run will testify to its effectiveness. The IAF raid on the Osirak reactor was done with Mk84 dumb bombs and CCIP-cued sighting and there's a blown up nuclear reactor husk sitting east of Baghdad today to prove it worked just fine. What this module will give you is a proper multirole fast-mover at the DCS level of simulation. That's plenty of bang for your buck without insisting on fancy targeting pods and active radar missiles to go out and kill your targets for you. SARH and visual bombing are the old-fashioned, do-it-yourself ways of doing business. It's character-building.

It seems like my recording is all screwed up and Youtube won't finish processing that trimmed down version, so here's a link to the full thing with it set to start at the point of interest: The audio is all messed up.. It seems like the audio from the section I want to show occurs at like 5:58-ish but the video itself is at 23:55. Probably a result of my incredibad hard disk screwing up the recording and making it glitchy and Youtube can't skim over it like Windows Media Player can. Edit: Yeah, the RWR launch warning at 6:12 is when Akystoy fires the AIM-7 from my 6 o'clock.. So around 5:03 is the audio from where the link starts the video.

lol, I think we were the ones that suffered from his desyncing. :P My first-person footage is still processing on youtube right now, but here it is:
