Dynamic Extraction Team Spawning (My Script Linked)
ENO replied to Psyrixx's topic in Mission Editor
Psyrixx... or someone else who knows how to interpret the script... I'm trying to set up a hostage rescue where the "asset" will be generated when other conditions are met. I'm trying to figure out if this script is the answer and I know it's VERY close... but there are a few variables I'm not sure of. I take it most of the unit numbers (the chevy's etc) are just group / unit names for choppers that need to be put in the mission- but in this section: local assetUnit = Unit.getByName('Downed Pilot') local assetGroup = Group.getByName('Downed Pilot') local rescueUnit = false local rescueGroup = false local verifyGroup = false I'm wondering... what are the = false for? Does the asset need to go by a specific name? Can it be a larger group or multiple groups of people as a string? Does anyone have a guide for how to apply this script by any chance or a few tips? Thanks -
hmmm... might be worth just reinstalling it? I remember I'd had some issues on occasion where it was the opposite problem and wouldn't pause when empty. I just placed the scripts folder (I think it was) and kept my bannedclients / admins / config the same. However that is a multi step process as you can imagine... I backed up everything first and replaced everything- and if it worked I either transplanted items back into the new folder (called the slmod folder slmod1 and let it rebuild on the next start) or copy and pasted the information within into the new files in the new folder (as necessary).

Hmmmm: d3dx9_43.dll... Wonder if you reinstalled the DX9 redist if this would go away? I'm also drawn to the force feedback joystick... while I don't use one it seems to me that there have been problems with using force feedback in the past? If you turn force feedback off (assuming it's on) in the options- do you still encounter a crash?
-
which version of slmod are you using? Also, look in your SLMOD log and see if there's anything pertinent in there.
-
That is strange... Wonder if it's an ISP issue. If it were me I'd try a few things to test. Rename the net config file in saved games / dcs and let it be rebuilt to test. If it works then great- if not delete the new file and rename the old one back to original. I'd also try restarting my computer as well as a router / modem reset (power cycle).
-
Is your server config actually set to true as well? It needs to be set to false in the saved games / dcs / config- network config file I believe it is... And then the slmod setting to true will (should) work.

Go to the mission file itself and change it to a .zip instead of a .miz. Just delete miz and write zip. Go in and delete the folders in there- leave mission file, options and maybe warehouse. Delete dsms folder, views etc. (Back up the original file first, of course. ) Then just close it and make it a miz again. Make sure your windows is configured to "view extensions on known file types " otherwise it won't change back.

Any chance it crashed? Server add integrity check? He may also have a script issue in the mission that's causing a hang... if you can join up with everyone else then it's not likely something on your end (except if you've tried modding some files and he has IC on).

Thought that one was debunked in the sim? I'll have to find that thread since there was quite a discussion on it. Speaking specifically about the A-10C here- I've been "antici-baiting" launches and while this doesn't always work for the IR threats- it can be a bit easier with some of the medium / short range radar threats like SA8s and Tungs. If they've been tracking me for awhile I tend to put them on a front quarter and keep my throttles up and if I've got some room to drop then I'll even keep a slight nose down attitude- this just helps if I'm "baiting" the launch I want to keep some speed up. In the sim specifically, the AI tend to launch at max range- so keeping them on a quarter makes beaming the missile a much quicker affair. You can't position yourself quite as advantageously with the IR threat since you don't really know where the missile system is- unless of course it's already launched on someone else. In this case while you're sweeping an area- you start up a bit higher (say... 13k) and fly through the area you want to clear with throttles forward (and ideally a wingie watching for launches). Do another pass at 12k, and another at 11k... or you and your wingie can trade to make it a bit faster. Anyway- at some point someone is going to launch on you- probably again at max range (AI only)... at which point you can flare like crazy, try to get an eye on the launch site or at least refer to your RWR (not necessarily in that order!) In a high threat environment (read- I built the mission and I know there is an IR threat) I'll set up a manual program for 2-4 flares every .25 seconds for 20 cycles... As SOON as I hear that launch warning or get a launch warning from my wingie I'll hit my flares and let them do their thing, scan my RWR and orientate my out of cockpit view towards the launch site... I'll stop flares after about 6 cycles (like 1.5 seconds worth) while I'm trying to get my eyes on (this is just a "me" thing... I do it since while I'm turning aggressively the flare trails distract me from seeing the missile rocket motor). If I can't see it right away I'll resume the program and try to keep speed up while putting the launch direction on the beam.... if I get my eyes on it I'll do a quick spot check on the canopy and evaluate whether or not the missile is tracking (after some practice to my surprise you can tell very quickly if the missile is "stuck" on you or not)... if it is then I'll initiate the program again and just let it run. Keep in mind- I'm speaking simply from the sim side... I don't care how they do it in real life... though some of the concepts are a good starting point. Also, in some MP side games you're seeing more people occupying the SAM / AAA threats- so you won't always be able to depend on the early launch... But you're not getting paid more money to bring back chaff and flares. If you've been launched on... make sure you're dropping bundles and bundles! Set up your programs and if you don't know how- ask! We'll show you the way, or just look in the manual depending on what platform you're using. you want to use lots- but you need to balance that with longevity on station... Hopefully your briefing describes the resident / expected threats... if it's more IR then load up with more flares etc. Proactive flaring / chaffing hasn't been proven to work in the sim- so while not a bad habit to get into I'm pretty sure it's placebo. ECM... again- not really accurately modelled... I haven't hung a jamming pod in a year. Anyway! I'm a bit excited about the question since I'm finally starting to get reasonably good at evasion with the A-10C. Hope this isn't too much!

Glad you're back in action. Makes me wonder if that was the same saved games folder from Steam... if so that certainly explains the issue since it would have maintained settings from your other card. Inevitably I expect that would have caused trouble. Either way... for whatever reason it worked so enjoy!
-
And that saved games folder question?
-
Did you delete the saved games / dcs folder as well? I think the steam version still uses that doesn't it? Any crash logs included in you logs folder in saved games? Maybe posting a dxdiag might help? Dcs.log... May just be a bad install... They're not so uncommon that it isn't possible.

Need to sticky this or something...
-
One other question: How did you upgrade to 128?
-
You're defending noobs. I'm defending mission designers.
-
Sorry shag haven't had a chance to look into it.
-
I totally understand what you're trying to do also and agree it would really heighten immersion. Hope we get that ability in the future.

And in that event when it states in the briefing that the targets are set in steer points and they are set up in the mission by the designer up in the air... Okay. Mission designer takes a hit. In the specific scenario where you are deploying IAMs and you're dropping on pre briefed coordinates... Fine. In other missions- you're tasked to an ip to wait for a task or to search for targets... In which case moving an elevated waypoint to the ground level is what- 3 mouse clicks on the cdu- if you needed to? Maybe a second of slewing the tad cursor and creating your own mark point? A mission designer doesn't exist to spoon feed you target information- and the various systems on the aircraft exist to help a pilot help himself- provided the pilot knows how to use them... Which was his point. Pfunk- you've taken his entire comment and raked it over one unique scenario that a data card loaded into the aircraft for that specific mission would have pre determined coordinates... IN REAL LIFE at that and only amongst "serious doubt." Get into a mission and see an elevated waypoint? Improvise, adapt, overcome. Don't write it off as bad mission design.

In the latter case... just crack open the .miz file (convert it to a .zip), then go into the folder and delete everything except your specific mission files. I'm looking at it now and you have a lot of your own files in there which is fine... but there are a bunch of folders that I'm quite certain are just from the "prepare mission." I would back it up, delete all those folders... back in the day I used to delete the options / warehouses etc but that may not have been necessary. If you just delete those folders first, then test drive it... that may suffice. If not, you have the backup so just go in and get rid of the options / warehouses... just leave "mission." You will have to go back in and reassign the coalitions to air bases etc but this will resolve your DSMS issue- assuming you've tried to load the dsms and it won't "update." And yes- avoid "prepare mission" at all cost. Not sure that ever got resolved. I'm looking over your mission briefly now while I have a chance... does the smoke not work at all or does it only work for a couple minutes?
-
Probably a little easier if you explained the desired end result- I'm not sure you can show existing Mao objects as destroyed without actually destroying them with an explosion or just using "dead" statics in close proximity.
-
lol sorry- that's why I said you had to take it one step at a time. I broke it up into sections... It's funny all I wanted to do was say... a flag is A, and it can do B and C. Enjoy... Whoops.

Like others, I'm a huge, huge fan of A-10s over Kosovo, Warthog and A-10s over Afghanistan- having read all of them a bunch of times... I find they help me develop reasonably accurate missions ideas as well as learn a lot about how they work together. At the end of "...over Afghanistan" they mention that the first A-10C had arrived and "the A-10 had gone digital..." I'm wondering was there going to be a sequel or is there one already?

I'm sorry but this is just garbage. It's not up to the mission designer to spoon feed you specific target data and locations. It's not called a "target point."
