I am still trying to figure out how to add my own face to this skin .. does anyone know how to do that or where those default heads are stored? I got the WWII pilot in and working..

OK guys.. I have been doing some searching.. and I found a few of my old posts on this.. so in case someone else comes along and wants to do this and either forgot like me .. or just does not know here are some links to posts on the subject.. Pilot textures 1 Pilot textures 2 Pilot textures 3 Pilot textures 4 - WWII 15th AF Pilot template in User files by Whiplash822 I still have to figure it all out the right way.. but this is a good place to start.
-
I will do all of them eventually but I was starting with the P-51. I know where the files are for the P-51 .. and IIRC you had to edit the description file to point to it.. I remember a while back I could do that.. and then they changed it where you couldn't.. I just started to get back into this again and I heard from a squadmate that that option was re added.. I am just trying to figure out the process to do it.. I had a custom pilot skin with a custom helmet and I just can't figure out how to see it..

Thanks guys.. I just wanted to make sure I didn't burn another activation.. When I upfraded my PC I burned one, which I expected.. and then about 9 months later when I upgraded my CPU I burned another.. which I did not expect..

Anyone?

Somehow I have two copies of DCS on my PC.. I think this happened when I added a bigger SSD specifically for my sims ... One has all the modules I own.. another has some of them.. How should I deal with this? I am not sure how toi proceed.. One is ver 1.2.15.37241 which is on my C drive and has all my modules the other is ver 1.2.11.34087.. on my D drive which has some of them.. Can I consolidate this without burning any more activations.. ? I am not even sure when i did this.. I thought I was just moving from one drive to another.. Where can I find how many activations I have left.. I can't seem to find it on the DCS page under my personal section.

Greetings gents! It's been a while.. A few years back I remember that we could alter our pilot skin.. Thewn that option was removed.. I have heard that it is now back.. Can anyone enlighten me on how this is now done.. Before it was done like this but I hear that now it is a little different. I had mangaed to get a pretty decent skin of myself in my cockpit.. I would like to do that again if possible.. Can anyone point me in the right direction..?

Yeah me too. I even went into DCS to the module manager.. still no joy. Soon enough though... :)

I just saw this yesterday... too bad. :( I am very grateful to ED for picking up the mantle on this.. I had mixed feelings about backing this anyway but I did because I always try to give the benefit of the doubt.. I knew going in that I could potentially loose my investment.. but my more positive expectations were placed elsewhere anyway.. at least within the 12-18month time frame. Since ED is sticking with this I am more confident that eventually I will see what I bought into..

This is my take as well...

That metal is outstanding! -
How did you get the WWII pilot textures?

I use my X-52 throttle and I use the small wheel for elevator trim and the larger wheel for rudder trim with no problems at all. I use my trim constantly and I have used this same throttle for the past 3 years with no jitters at all. I agree you may want to reconsider the pedals. They help a great deal.

Getting into DCS, could use some advice
Bearcat replied to Parkranger's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You can get an X-52 Pro, a TIR-5 and a set of Saitek Pro Flight rudder pedals for under $500. If you decided on an X-52 and a TIR-4 and the same pedals for close to $400. Most of the issues with Saitek sticks come from ham fisting the twist rudder which would not be an issue if you had rudder pedals. Saiteks are decent products. CH is good stuff too but I think Saiteks are a great alternative. -
At the very least here and SHQ.. I don't own every DCS module and do not plan to .. but I will do what I can and have for this WWII venture.. I am not asking how high.. I am saying I have given supprt.. now show me.. something.. Yeah that makes no Sense to me either.. but then we still do not know what will come in the initial release. I would imagine that at least two flyables would come in the initial release..

Excellent! -
I thought this was my guns jamming on the P-51..

That says a mouthfull there.. Most sim developers are in it for the passion as well.. if it was just a money thing then you'd mostlikely be doing something else entirely.. Great post HB.. I did not know that .. that is a good thing.

I have tried to wade through this entire thread but there is just too much and some of it such BS that I had to change boots quite a few times just to get here to this last page... First off.. Why does this always have to devolve into a my balls are bigger than yours thing.. Why can't we all just be thrilled that we will have at least 3 relatively high fidelity WWII sims to choose from hopefully a year from now? Second... "who died and made you boss... " That of course being a generic "you" not directed at any one person here but to that embodiment that seems to take it upon itself to be the holy grail of what makes a real sim and what makes a game... If it has every screw and rivet modeled then and absolutely flawless FMs .. then it is true sim.. and we all know that the sim we choose to fly most must be the only real sim.. the only pure sim.. what a crock. Some of us need to justget over ourselves and realize that it's all just a bunch of software and it all simulates flying and combat to a greater or lesser degree.. There was a time when IL2 was considered the only WWII sim out there by many.. now that it is long in the tooth.. well it's just not cutting it anymore.. It is all fun.. or it is supposed to be.. I manage to have a boatload of fun with IL2 still.. and DCS.. and even CoD .. I just can't get past that frustrating FFB issue.. but it is still enjoyable outside of that.. and RoF .. while it does kind of bore me to tears with the slowness of it all .. is a great piece of sim SW and anyone who says different needs to either reexamine it or get over themselves.. while the theater may not be appealing to everyone and the FMs and DMs may not satisfy those finicky purists who obviously keep the genre alive and moving forward with their incessant attention to detail... (insert sarcasm here) it is a sim and a damn good one... Some people extol DCS as the end all and be all of sims.. while others say the P-51 is a huge PoS and they can't fly it.. I say you need to take any sim for what it is worth and learn it as an entity unto itself and pay less attention the the finer points of FMs.. (unless it is something obvious .. like Zeros out diving P-47s.. which actually happened in IL2 for a while there... or Corsairs out climbing 109s.. ) Lastly... Are you friggin kiddin me... a 91 page thread... with the last 49 pages before this post made in the last 48 hours.. and about 30 or so pages of that full of.. "Is it here yet?" "Oh my god!! is it here yet!!??" "I'm waiting.. " "Oh my goodness!! where are they!!??? " and all this just for an announcement ... an announcement of the plan ... I feel like I am back at Yankee Stadium in 65 waiting for John, Paul, Ringo & George to walk out on the stage.. Rant over... Now as for DCS:WWII .. sounds like a great plan to me.. I am looking forward to it .. but I will not be holding my breath all things considered.. I think it is a great idea that the aircraft will be interchangeable between both worlds but I totally understand the need for two separate worlds.. and I agree with it 100%. I think that so far the DCS P-51 is the finest modeled WWII aircraft in cyberspace (A2A not withstanding.. for me the worse thing about A2A is that it runs on FSX and that is a personal thing to me not to slag FSX.. I just never liked MS stuff since CFS3) and I like the fact that I can choose how I want to fly it.. whether go full blown startup procedure or.. shortened.. I think that DCS puts out a great product and that this will be a welcome addition to the WWII sim market and I don't have to put down any other sim as sub standard in order to do that. I also thank goodness have enough space on my HD to ... actually install multiple sims and enjoy them all...!! WOW!! What a friggin concept... Congrats Ilya & crew on your new venture and to tell you the truth I am so glad that this announcement was made on time because if it hadn't I shudder to think of the negative ripple through cyberspace had you been a day or two late with this... Good luck and I look forward to giving it a go. That means that things like air races and virtual airshows can be run on DCSW servers.. with combat on DCSWWII servers.. sounds like a good option to me..

I set up my keys for tis and they are all back to the defaults.. I suspect this is a W7 read only bug thing.. does anyone have a fix for this..? Very frustraTING. i hate w7.. It is stable as h@ll and it utilizes all mey RAM but this read only attribute thing is a major major problem.

Mostly, the radial engine variety though. I am looking forward to the day, where the realistic AI damage model is implemented and smoke and fluid loss have an impact. And a tweak on ours were you can't lose manifold pressure and your prop governor from a single bullet originating from dead astern. That will be very cool. There was an inline 190?

I am amazed at how many sim developers do nto think this is worth doing..

Problem solved.. Thanks DCS support!!

Hmmmm I think I may have found the problem here.. OK I am caught in a conundrum here.. Now I just had a nasty virus that I got rid of.. could that have porked my registry.. How do I find out how many re-activations I have left? It is telling me I have an invalid registration..
