  1. The Kneeboard on the pilots body in the mustang is usable... I was mildly disappoint for it to be blacked out in the F-86... :(
  2. This may have been discussed but I was unable to find it using the dreaded search tool, but I finally got the B-17s to carpet bomb (Sort of). However, I cannot seem to figure out how to get them to defend themselves with the .50 cals... also... seems like there is only one AI hiding in somewhere in the plane... and when he bails out... he is in a german flight suit... maybe that's why he won't shoot back... :) When the B-17 drops its payload, it drops it from the top to the bottom, essentially clipping each bomb...
  3. I've noticed on both Nevada and Normandy, the Airfields primary radio frequency is either above or below the radio frequency range of the Mustang. So I've been using the 2nd listed radio frequency, but doing this seems to grey out every airfield in the communications list even if it is correct and I can send and receive communication. Am I doing something wrong when I create my missions or is there a correct way to setup the radio for the mustang?
  4. I too was getting some texture issues, like the texture map being rotated, but after turning off Deferred Shadows and setting ground shadows to flat. Issues seem to have stop.
  5. What I've found is that the pilot skin which is viewed from the 3rd person (outside the aircraft) is located here: "\DCS World\Bazar\World\textures\P-51D.zip" Changing the "pilot_P51" original green skin to the WWII Brown changed it across all P-51 liveries. It also changed the pilot skin when you exit the aircraft (Bail-out) from the Green to the WWII Brown. But, it seems while inside the aircraft the Pilot Skin you see when you turn your pilot on (1st Person) is located in a different location. It is also split into 2 files and both are a slight higher resolution. They are located here: "\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\P-51D\Cockpit\Textures\P-51D-CPT-TEXTURES.zip" (pilot_p51_fp1, pilot_p51_fp2). I attempted to merge the WWII Brown into both of the above skins in Photoshop, but the skin turned black until I exited the aircraft. Also, changing any textures in the "P-51D-CPT-TEXTURES.zip" seems to crash the game when starting a mission. Thank you.
  6. Yes, you can adjust brightness / gain on most NVGs in real life, unless you got some cheap $200 version at Walmart. While yes, they are autogated and you are limited in how bright you can make them given the background ambient light. If that ambient light is too intense, this is where the brightness / gain comes into play, just turn it down. I've used both PVS-7's and PVS-14's in the Military and both Thermal / NVG weapon mounted optics and they most definitely have a brightness / gain knob.
  7. So, I take it that since no one seems to know or even respond with some sort of an answer, it is not possible, thanks.
  8. Hi guys, Coming back to DCS after a long break and I just downloaded a skin for the P-51 with a great WWII era pilot skin, the only problem is when I turn the pilot on in the cockpit in first person, its the standard green suit and not the Brown / Khaki. I spent the last few hours search the forum and user files but the only thing I am finding is how to change the skin of the pilot for each liveries by change the text to false in the description.lua. But this seems to have zero effect on what I see in the first person while in the cockpit. Is there anyway to change from the default green?
  9. "The Activation Key is not valid any more due to significant changes of the computer hardware configuration" Just upgraded my PC to play this game and now I can't unless I buy the game all over again? Is that my understanding... ED has not responded to my email nor my trouble ticket. Can anyone help..?
  10. Disclaimer, I have been away from DSC for a few months (6) and just updated a few days ago and downloaded the BF-109 today, This was the first flight I did, well 3rd if you count the 2 I over stressed my P-51 and crashed.. and the other I blacked out... :) so I am a bit rusty and you'll see that in my posted track. What you'll also see is that the 109 can really take hits and also you can fly level, straight and well, almost land with half a wing. I'm playing on Simulation with AI on average, hey it's been months. For whatever reason the AI completely just gives up(?) after the first pass and I miss a bunch but with all the hits i did land should have killed the AI's plane but it didn't. Then I attempt to cut his tail with my prop and miss and we clip wings, he crashes and I go on to fly to a open field with half a wing and land. This is where I really first experience a damaged wing and it pulls the mustang to the left hard and I blow up for some reason. This was a very interesting flight to come back to. Did all that just happen.trk
  11. There is no pilot there its just a trick of light and shadow, so they say...
  12. I have kept quite about this so far but, I have many years with the US Army Infantry and have fired or have seen M2's, 25mm Bushmaster from a M1a1 Brady, 5.56 Nato, 7.62 Nato, both Apache's and Cobra's engage Insurgents in Ar Ramadi, Iraq and finally A-10 during training on Fort Campbell, fire at targets or in a real combat environment. I too like where you are going with the effects but here are a couple of things I would like to point out. 1) The ricochet effects for the .50 is pretty close but the round also tend to "spin" / "loop" sometimes and not just "float" away from the impact. The "Streak" does slow down and it appears to be a single bright ball even in day light which you have modeled right now. The bullets seem to ricochet on every impact regardless of angle of attack, which is not always the case, normally it is only glancing or deflecting impacts where ricochets are common. 2) When a tracer round leaves the barrel it is traveling at its fastest velocity and looks like a straight line of light. As the round gets further away and slows down the "streak" decreases. This is one of the best examples I have found in any game and to me is the closest thing to what I have seen in real life, it is at 1:35 . In coming tracer rounds are not seen right away either, one cannot see the tracer that is fired directly at them until it is very close and passing you, (Its not fun - been there) but once you see the tracer - the old saying applies "Tracers work in both directions". 3) Gun smoke is a little extreme, but I have not seen a M2 fire at altitude so I cannot say if that is correct, but on the ground it is way too much. 4) Bullet impacts, Yes you can on occasion see flashes as the round impacts a metal surface, this is because the AP round carries a small amount of explosive change to propel the steel penetrator though the hardened object. I have not seen nor I am told you will not see this on a soft surface such as the ground because to ignite the explosive change you need Heat and Pressure from the Jacket of the bullet striking the Hard surface. Now HE rounds are a different story and the effect we see right now are closer to what the A-10 looked like in training and the AH-64's striking the concrete walls in iraq. With this said, the impact affects on the ground as nice for "eye candy" as they are, are incorrect and the amount of dust and debris each impacts kicks up, I feel is too much for a non-arid climate such as Georgia and even in Iraq the impacts where not large. 5) Vibration and recoil, I do not know how much a pilot in a mustang feels with the engine and other affects but I can say sitting in a HMMWV and having your gunner engaging with the .50, you can really feel the vibration, even in the steering wheel. I've mentioned this before and after seeing what PeterP was going through with the SU-25, I've left it alone but, this there a way to add it to the sim in some way? Either FFB with its own setting or visually? ED, you are doing a great job and I am very glad to have been a part of the Beta. You listen to the community and are producing very good products.
  13. Have you guys tried turning off the rearview mirror? I notice a 15-20 fps increase when I do not use the mirrior. Besides it really doesn't do that much due to the angle it sits at. EDIT: I have not watched your track yet.
  14. Nate, said in a previous post that sometimes the radiators dont work at the start and you need to take them off auto and put then to close then then reset them to auto. You could try that. But I can tell you everyone is going to ask you to post a track...
  15. Its Possible... but I have seen it on both my mission I made with 18 vs 18 dog fight and on the instant action 1 vs 1 (but i noticed it was down before I even got a chance to shoot) when I went back and replayed that track it was up.
  16. I have been seeing the same over the last few missions i've played but it has been the AI who lowered the flaring doors sometime in mid dog fight. The weid thing is I replayed my last track the doors did not come down...?
