I'm sorry if it's mentioned already, I did not bother reading the entire thread. Have people already come up with a solution for not seeing your keyboard and other controls, besides the option of using only your mouse to click on every button in the virtual pit?

In the sim forever. No sure about the real jet but I've never seen anything indicating otherwise. Maybe Paulrkiii can shed some light on it...

3x 23" 1080p or 1x 27" 1440p + TIR
JayPee replied to JayPee's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
How does one wide physical device differ from 3 devices placed next to eachother with respect to what is mentioned above? -

JayPee replied to JayPee's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Stretching? As far as I know the game supports 5670 x 1080p.. Don't tell me it just stretches 1920 x 1080p horizontally over 3 monitors without actually rendering a width of 3 times a normal 16:9 resolution? -
As some of you might know from topics I started in the past, I'm running DCS A-10C on a mid-end gaming notebook with a rather crappy home made FreeTrack set. About a month ago I decided to go and buy a new rig dedicated for simming but then I learned about Nvidia releasing their GTX 9xx in September/October. Long story short, I'll wait for EDGE and ASUS/MSI/Gigabyte GTX 980 cards. However, what constantly keeps me busy is whether I'm better off running 5760 x 1080 with no TIR, or 2560 x 1440 + TIR? I know 5760 x 1080 + TIR is probably the ideal set up but for the sake of making choices, let's assume I can only pick between the two options given... What might be important to know is that I initially (as in: the upcoming 3 years at least) do not plan on using more than one videocard and I want to stick to the price range of the current 780 plus or minus a few bucks, not the 780Ti or Titan.

Yes, but what we need/want and what is used IRL as we speak versus what ED produces is not always totally in line...

On the other hand, reinstalling DCSW on the SSD will probably take about twice the amount of time it takes you to load a single mission on your current/previous HDD. So if you really want to be safe, why bother and not just reinstall? That is ofcourse if you have all your mods nicely set up via JSGME and copy/paste-ready...

I know, however since the version in which they removed the access to it, I have not been able get them functional again. Did you? Or others?

If I'm informed correctly the AGM-65E is one of the main weapons used by the Hornet. Will we be able to use the 65E again and possibly the 65E2/L?

Looking at new systems, looking for advice!
JayPee replied to JG-1_Vogel's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
A GTX960 at the time of release will cost about as much as a GTX760 does nowadays so I'm not sure how a budget limitation is a reason not to wait for the new series? As a matter of fact, your bang for buck ratio will increase by buying a newer card in 3 months for roughly the same price an older one costs today -

GTX 9xx is coming in 2 or 3 months. Generally you will want to newest series of hardware to be as future proof as possible. Also, wait for EDGE, you don't know yet what works best with it. -
IF you know what you are doing MSE offers more than enough protection and so far it is the least demanding AV around. Just don't have the wife and kids click on every single link Google comes up with.

No clue :P I just wanted to see if I can ride a Tunguska and fire guided missiles followed by a nice burts.. So far I haven't been able to find out how.

CA is still 5.99USD. Just tried it.. Couldn't resist for those few bucks.

What do you mean by deposit money? As in what people used to do in 1990? ;) You can pay using the majority of CCs as well as PayPal!

Nice sale! Picked up the F-15C for some jet aerobatics until the L-39 is released. I have to say tho, still doesn't beat the $4,99 I once paid for the A-10C.

How many cores does this game utilize? SkateZilla is prolly gonna answer this, IIRC he has a similar-ish CPU and he knows a thing or two about hardware and how software and hardware effectively work together. If he doesn't, ask him
-
This is a much discussed issue for about 2 or 3 years now.. The game supports 2 cores, one for audio alone and the other for the rest, so basically it runs on one core. Others and myself have posted our opinions about this multiple times and you'll always end up silenced by ED or a moderator saying it takes too much work to rewrite the code to support multiple cores.

In the past overclocking was a practice that required you to be at least half an engineer, nowadays even the stock software that comes with the hardware provides child proof GUIs with sliders and toggles. The reason I'm suggesting the 4790K is that using the standard software you can already have it run at 4.4Ghz at all times. This is 10% higher than its non-K counterpart for zero difference in price, I'd say that's low hanging fruit... Downside is you need an above par motherboard with a Z97 chipset, an good example is the ASUS Maximus VII, depending on the bells and whistles you want it to have, a mobo of this series will cost you 150 EUR for the bare naked one and 350 EUR for the most pimped one. I'd go with the former and buy a PCIe module if you really really miss a certain functionality like extra USB or WiFi. Also beware of RAM speeds. i7s support 1600Mhz RAM. Overclocking the bus so that it can benefit from higher RAM speeds is difficult, gives hardly any notable improvement, and might even be considered dangerous for the non experienced computer user. Instead, opt for the 'slower' RAM of 1600Mhz and go for 8ms latency RAM. This might be tricky as a lot of brands seem to want you to buy fast RAM with average latency timings while you will want what I just wrote. :) If you want I'll work out a rig for you on paper so you and others can shoot at it.. Figuratively.

DCS A-10C QUESTIONS Corbett, get a 4790K, a Z97 mobo like the ASUS maximus VII series, and a GTX 780, or wait for the 8xx series (roughly 2 months). As a rule of thumb, the last two digits of the card name should be equal or greater than 70.. Goes for GTX 6xx, 7xx, and 8xx.

30mm party mix: why allow two ballistic profiles?
JayPee replied to JayPee's topic in Military and Aviation
How would the relation between the two dots flip IF they hass the same ballistic profile? Anyway, on topic, I now understand why you don't want to tune down the AP's ballistic profile as it decreases the kinetic punch/effectiveness of the round. -
30mm party mix: why allow two ballistic profiles?
JayPee replied to JayPee's topic in Military and Aviation
If it wouldn't make the round less effective I'd seriously consider letting both types of ammo match in terms of ballistics.. -
Just wondering.. The GAU-8/A's AP round clearly suffers less from ballistic drop than the HEI round. Why don't designers tune-down the AP's ballistic profile so it matches the HEI round? Would that perhaps reduce the kinetic punch of the AP round?

Anyone help out with this warthog footage?
JayPee replied to CookPassBabtridge's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Anyone help out with this warthog footage? I haven't read all replies so pardon me if it's asked before. Why does the pilot -during the climbing part of the SEM- roll 270 degrees into the direction he will be breaking away instead of a simple 90 degree bank? During this manoeuvre he doesn't really (at least to me) jink or change his path, he just makes a perfect 270 degree roll along his longitudal axis. Is it perhaps to confuse an AAA gunner and not reveal the direction into which he will ultimately break away too early on? -
I'd go for Fish's tutorials first but that's up to you. Search for Fish DCS A10 on YT. He's got a channel.
