New cpu vs older overclocked cpu
ricktoberfest replied to ricktoberfest's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Not looking for any particular frame rate, just planning out for my next upgrades - could be a year or more. My computer is one hobby of many so I put less cash towards it than I otherwise could. The gtx770 was a Kijiji special and I only bought it because the ati6850 I had didn’t have enough video memory to run multiplayer with lots of units. I’ll look to a 1070 or 1080 when they become a generation old as I’m not into spending $500 on a GPU. Not yet at any rate. Maybe if I was to get VR it would make more sense to spend that much Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
SU-33 refueling FBW augmentation/dampening

Looks like the trimming in RF mode was a bug that’s been fixed in beta now. Should be able to trim in refueling mode now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Last time I checked (I could be wrong) you can’t trim in that mode Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I don’t think it’s more difficult than other aircraft, but you have to fight the autopilot while turning which can be hard with cheaper joysticks (holding a slight pressure without over compensating). Also when you add in the excess movement of the AI tanker it becomes that much harder. In turns the tanker doesn’t really keep speed and altitude as well as it should. I have no problems with a little movement, but 20 meters up and down is quite a bit in a close formation like that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

It is possible in the su33 to refuel in a turn (in game). It’s much harder but very possible. I think the tanker moves a lot vertically but again- once you’re hooked up you don’t need to follow every up and down bump as the hose has some play in it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
New cpu vs older overclocked cpu
ricktoberfest replied to ricktoberfest's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the replies! It’s pretty much what I figured. I’ve already got SATA 6Gb and usb 3, my ram is only ddr3, but it’s fairly fast. When I do upgrade unfortunately it will require motherboard and all, but that’s pretty standard for intel. Oh- it’s an ASUS p8z77-v which has done well and was reasonably cheap at the time. Do the newer cpus really make a difference in game FPS? I’ve got an older I5 3570k overclocked to 4.5 GHz. Is that gonna run dcs slower than a newer processor at 4.5 GHz? If so, why? And no I’m not new to computer specs- I’m just wondering about the real world difference in the newer stuff as I last built a computer around 5 years ago I read about people with new systems getting under 30 FPS while I’m running an older cpu and gtx770 with 40 and above FPS in almost any scenario expect with extreme amounts of AI units. How are you turning it off? Or do you mean pressing the retract probe button and waiting for the turn to finish? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Nope It actually works really well when the tanker is straight and level, but I have a hard time when the tanker is turning Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Or perhaps because it was scripted takeoff it was easy to animate something that didn’t really do anything? Now with the PFM you would see that they don’t actually have a physical (physics) presence. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks. I haven’t been home to try the newest update, but before that was playing around some with various mission starts. The 3rd aircraft in a group starts at the waist cat and has a longer run, but it only works to set it to “client”, not “player” if you want to fly it yourself. Also setting wind speed to headwind and carrier speed to max helped a lot for player takeoffs, but I think the AI flight model ignores wind. I even did a takeoff with the direct control on and that kind of turned into a cobra takeoff thing where I was pitched up 50 degrees. Unnecessary- but fun! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It would be easy to put that position data on a map (like tacview does) and have a live view of where everyone is. Seeing as finding the enemy and identifying them is one of the main parts of combat in his game- that would be cheating. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Noticed on YouTube someone able to start from the waist cat. That would help the player aircraft take off at least. If the AI was already in the air at the start or spawned at the waist cat after the player launched then the issue would be fixed. I do respect and only want realistic flight modeling and I'm aware that his is in Beta so I'm not expecting everything to be perfect. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

F5-E (help) BFM and aircraft question to get better in flying :)

The pitot tube is freezing- turn on the pitot heat As for fuel- you have to break off the engagements earlier, use less afterburner, or go slower (use less fuel) to and from the range Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Yes it did- which is why I said maybe just the missions need to be updated to lower fuel and add tanker Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It seems that you can't take off in the campaign with more than 50-60% fuel. Even the ai won't make it above 50% fuel with weapons. Not sure if it's a bug or the campaign missions need to be updated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Also make sure the control key is not being pressed during loading as that makes the activation screen pop up even if it's already activated Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

A-10 stall behaviour in DCS is incorrect Having not read the intervening 6 pages, could it be something as simple as the delay YouTube audio has? Are you seeing him pull further into the chirping when really it's the chirping in the video is delayed from the video? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Help with head tracking api
ricktoberfest replied to guilhermemtr's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It's just a couple dollars, and I have no idea of compatibility- but I know there are choices of API and tracker and it would seem you could just plug into that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Have you tried facetracknoir? It has options for multiple API and I'm sure you could add yours somehow Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
You are vastly mistaken to think you spawn in the air and just dogfight. There are practice missions where that happens, but the actual campaigns are well written, start you at the airport, and expect you to navigate and fight. There are many voiceovers and radio traffic.
