MiG-21Bis Dynamic Campaign: Guardians of the Caucasus
Cruiser18 replied to MBot's topic in User Created Missions General
Just tried out the first two missions with a group of people. Its great fun. Very well done ;) -
Have you tried looking at the input graphic (right ctrl + enter) and checking if something is making rudder inputs?
-
That was a nice episode. Nice to get some info on what kind of process goes into making a module.

I looking for the list of weapons of MIG 21bis...
Cruiser18 replied to Skulleader's topic in MiG-21Bis
You can just click on each slot and assign an S-24 to it and save that as a new loadout. -
Heh. Sweet death. Good 'ol Evangelion vibes. XD Nice landing. ;)
-
Tell that to the people in Warthunder. They hate kamikaze pilots like the plague. ;)

Okay, I just spend a few minutes figuring out how to set up an AWACS in the mission editor for the Mig-21 BIS. Here's how it's done: -Add a plane, set "Type" to "Mig-21 BIS" and "Skill" to "Player". -Add another plane. Set it's "Type" to "E-3A" (AWACS plane) and make sure "Task" is set to "AWACS". Next to "Com" set its "Mhz" to "124" (standard Mig-21 channel 0). - Make sure the AWACS has at least 1 waypoint. If you do not set 1 or more waypoints, it will immediately try to return to base and stop any AWACS service it provides. I recommend setting up a waypoint pattern for it. That's it. The most important parts are setting the AWACS radio frenquency and it's waypoint. The MIG-21 does not come with a preset radio frequency that will match the standard radio frenquency of 251 mhz that the AWACS has as standard, so you must either change the frequency of the AWACS to one of the MIG-21's preset channel, or set one of your MIG's preset channels to be 251 mhz. The waypoint is also important. If the AWACS spawn without a waypoint, it will not just default to some orbit pattern while providing AWACS services. It will simply go "screw this, im going home" and stop whatever task is assigned to it. Hope that helped a little.

Has anyone figured how to bomb precisely in MANUAL mode?

Are you saying that you dont believe the rocket boosters to be realistic? -
**** yeah! Finally got the bastard in a clean fight. Now to analyze what I did right :D Im kinda suspecting that my decision not to to turn hard into my opponents path and instead go for more elongated turns to got around him might have done the trick. Full afterburn entire fight. Tacview: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21570909/DCSworld/Tacview-PhantomFirstKill.acmi PhantomFirstKill.trk

Interesting. I noticed that you kept a very good control of the AoA at all times. Most of the time you were around 17-18 and it never got higher than 26-27 in pressured turns. Could be why you never seemed to suffer catastrophic loss of lift. Gonna have to try out doing relaxed turns to conserve speed. And very nice flying mate. Could almost feel the phantoms frustration. ;)

Just finished a 3 hour session where I have constantly been dogfighting this guy. Same story every time. I burn all my fuel. Eject. Respawn with new plane. Burn my fuel. Eject. Respawn. And on it goes until he runs out of fuel and I can shoot him out of the sky. I feel like I've tried everything against him. Fighting low, fighting high. Doing turn matches, loop matches, fighting with flaps on, fighting without afterburner, fighting with only afterburner. Nothing helps. Anyone having any luck with killing this guy?

I think that the power system of the Mig-21 cannot really handle running everything off just the battery. Many of the systems NEED the power produced by the engine. I think that's also why the startup procedure in the manual says not to jump ahead and flip switches while the engine is going through it's spooling up procedure.

The centre fuel tank has a release handle that sits on the backside of the flight stick. I usually find it by craning my neck right around the stick and looking down, and it's sits around where your pinkie would be on the stick. It's a little hard to find, but your cursor lights up green when over it. External fuel tanks should be under that big yellow cover on centre console, haven't tried if it work myself yet though. The weapon stores are dropped with the two red covers on the console behind the stick though. They have always worked for me.

Of course, the SU-25T does SEAD a lot better than the Mig-21, unless you start dropping nukes on the enemies ;)

I had the radio bug thing in the singleplayer instant action missions, but I fixed it by loading up the missions in the editor and resaving the missions. Now I could talk to the ATC and wingmen again. Reference the thread I made on it: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=130537

I'd like some window cleaners for the canopy and the HUD glass while we are at it ;)

Fair enough. While I also enjoy the whole trial-and-error approach, I also believe that having teachers is a good thing as sometimes some people just knows the right way to do things. After 10 attempts where the only time I managed to get on the Phantom's ass was when he was withdrawing from the battlefield because of low fuel, patience was wearing a bit thin and I figured someone here knew a lot more than me about the problems pilots faced in a Mig-21 vs Phantom matchup. ;)

Click the emergency restart button. ;)

Okay people, I'm a bit surprised that it seems noone has done a thread on this so far, so I guess I'll get started. I can't possibly be the only one that feels like the guy is just running in circles around me. He accelerates quicker, he climbs like a beast and he turns like there was no tomorrow. I am frankly a bit at a loss with how to handle him after a handful of attempts. If I go into a turning match with him, it often ends with me having bled too much speed and either i'm forced to fly straight to get speed, or have my Mig spin out of control. Can't run away from him either, and he continuously pulls off insane climbs, just to swing around at the top and come down again at my back. Anyone has some tips on how to take him down? So far the only thing that has worked somewhat is just simply spin my Mig completely out of control when he's on my ass and then recover behind him when he passes.

I HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM! This was good information, it lead me to solving the problem. I tried making an editor mission and there I could communicate perfectly with ATC. I then initially also tried loading in the Cold start mission in the editor and running it, but the problem persisted. I then made just a small change and back to make the editor register that I had altered something, and then I saved the mission and retried it. Now I could communicated perfectly with the ATC. It seems that the fix is to load a mission into the editor, make any change and then save the mission. I confirmed it by doing the same to the Intercept mission. Load it up, make a small change, save it, run the mission, ATC works perfectly. What causes it though is beyond me. Maybe it's a discrepancy between the version of the missions and version of DCS world.

Yeah that is the Mic switch. I can even hear that it gets pressed down when I use the standard radio button. XD
-
I already did these things as I explained in the initial post. Just tried it again in the cold start. Converters on, battery heat on, Battery on, DC Gen on, radio on. Dialed to channel 14 and tried talking to ATC, no response. Went to options and set it to "Easy communications", did the same thing and now ATC answered me. Seems I can only make communications work with easy communications on.
-
*Edit* Putting the fix here so people won't have to plow through the thread. Symptom: "Easy communications" is off. Power and radio is on. No communication is possible with ATC, Wingman or groundcrew. The Fix: Open the offending mission in the editor. Make minor change and then save the mission. Communications should now work perfectly. *Original post* Just tried my hand at the "Intercept" Instant mission, and I found that I could not communicate with anyone. The radio was powered on, switch was set to radio, and I got hiss from radio if I turned squelch off so audio was correct. I tried communicating with my wingman and the AWACS on Channel 0 as pr the briefings instructions, but no reply. I also tried tuning to channel 14 to contact the ATC, but no reply there either. I checked the mission file and confirmed that my wingman and the ATC was on the correct frequencies. I also referenced the manual to confirm that I used the radio system correctly. I then tried turning on "Easy Communications" in the options menu and now I was able to contact everyone around me again. Is there a bug with the radio system, or am I doing something wrong with the radio even though it seems so simple to operate?
