So does that mean it will use up one of the activations for each module?

This is crazy slow. It looks like it will take days at this rate. Would switching from my 30Mb connection to a dial-up help? What are the BBS numbers so I can dust of my old 3600 modem and get it faster? :joystick: Seriously though, is there a procedure to abort the auto-update and download the torrents, or now that I've started the auto-update would that break things?

Ideally, a good dynamic campaign would provide AI to generate packages and dictate strategy and tactics, but it could be even better if it allows player(s) to actually step into this role as well. I agree that even a bad strategy by the AI can make things interesting. Personally, I think 15 years after Falcon4 there should be a way to model the entire earth even if only certain parts are completed in great detail. The Falcon bubble concept worked well, and if it means some things are done outside the bubble my client is in then so be it. Personally, I agree this is what would make DCS World reach its full potential, but I'm also pretty happy just ripping around in the p51 and not shooting anything at all. I hope the brains behind DCS are at least thinking about this stuff and if it doesn't sound feasible then maybe some fresh perspective would be welcome.

I used my credit card directly as opposed to PayPal. I just checked the account and there is still a temporary hold placed on it. I'd certainly feel more comfortable if this hold was removed before paying a second time, but I'm not sure why the original transaction can't be completed. In either case, I'm good for it ;) I like the product, but I'd rather avoid anything that presents even a small future risk of my having to call any phone number and wait on hold for any amount of time whatsoever. I'm really enjoying the forum, but technical support is not something that would make me happy, whether it be for ED or my credit card. So, if it's ok I'll probably wait a couple days and make sure everything is running smoothly before I resubmit my payment. It sure would be nice if a coupon was in the works as a thank you for the hassle, but either way I have only love for this company. ;)

No inside info here, but I think it was something that was being developed before they decided to work ona new graphics engine called EDGE. Once they decided to do EDGE, they put off Nevada until EDGE and because EDGE is not out there isn't anything to show?

 I couldn't agree more. In the long term, this should provide both interesting what-if's and time period based realistic match-ups. By being efficient and developing products they can deliver with accuracy and efficiency, we are a step closer. I think clearly there is a need for a jet fighter, but in my mind the MiG-21 is the perfect way to introduce this to DCS World, and I'm content for now with really well done Vietnam era equipment. The limitations of the weapons at the time make this kind of simulation very interesting. It'll be fun to match up the 104 and the MiG, and I'll be looking forward, when the time's right, to a match up of newer equipment like f15 and Su27.

Awesome. I didn't find myself on the list. I wonder if that was the second go around at that? I definitely authored at least one mission that was used on HMASP, and I flew a bunch of them. Nice to see you on the top of the leader board ;) -
Pilot Body for all DCS Modules Plea - toggle-able as is for Ka50 and P51

I'm not sure that we need FPS-like injury effects. I agree totally on the headshot thing, but not on the red vision. We can't really model effects like blood loss or hypoxia well. I personally do not get an visual effects from pulling less than 6g, can't say beyond that, but I know this effects different people differently. I tend to feel the effects as fatigue after the flight, but I don't get to do this kind of flying much. On the other hand, I recognize the effects of hypoxic hypoxia, but don't get headaches from it like some people do. Certainly, we don't want to model an average person's health when it comes to this. I think that black out modeling should never be stronger than what the most highly G tolerant person on earth would experience. After all, my age hardened arteries should be good for something ;) What we need is for a good "unrealistic" cue to tell us approximately what G the airplane we are exposed to at any point in time. Looking at a g meter is unrealitic for this. In a real airplane, our kinesthetic sense should be giving us cues we can't get in the sim, even if we are looking away from the panel. -
In Vietnam for example, I don't think there were many low risk missions anyway. My friend who flew Huey's there once saved a Thud crew that ejected. After the rescue, the Thud crew decided they wanted to go along on a combat mission in the Huey, and the pilot, who I think was a full bird, and got his way. So, he got to sit up front and his back-seater ended up on a door gun. My friend had to yell at the back-seater because he backed off firing the gun when the vegetation and the gun barrel met. They were under fire at this point and it was important to be firing back. After the mission, the two Thud guys were adamant about how crazy helicopter flying was and that they wouldn't do that by choice again. My friend always went with some extra flak vests stuffed around his seat, and he always sat down as low as possible when there was a chance of taking fire, which was a regular occurrence.

I'd like to see the eastern US done. There is usually interesting weather, loads of civilian traffic, many airports and an interesting coast for naval ops. Ideally, I'd like to see a spherical representaion of the whole world, even if large portions of it were done in lower detail temporarily. It should be possible to have a mission span continents.

Nice roiegat!

To Jim's family and the many friends on here, my condolences. To Jim, clear skies, smooth air, and tailwinds.

Looks like an awesome track. I'm going to have to ride that sometime soon. I'm sitting here watching the race while my fellow riders are on their way to ride New Jersey Motorsport Park, but I have to work tomorrow. It's a rough life for a pilot :pilotfly:

New Tutorial:: Su-27: Tanker Attack Mission
Cake replied to Ironhand's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Yeah, maybe Cheetah? Does that sound familiar? Cake was my call on Warbirds. I'm not sure for flanker, but I was pretty involved whatever I went by. I fell for the Su27 when the original demo came out and knew it was something special. i was on the original ladder and won the first big international competition - actually I think It was a draw with some guy, maybe his name was Colin???? Actually, he was better than I, but I got lucky. We fought till we both ran out of fuel and dead sticked our flankers in after both flaming out. I was on the testing team for ED, and I think we tested the squadron commander's edition and/or 2.0 together? I wish I could find the Flanker Flight jacket they sent me ;). Funny thing is, we as a group recommended many of the ideas of what DCS has finally become now nearly 20 years later ;). Either way, I remember the names Stinger and Shepski well, and back then I think Wags was just one of us. -

Names from the past! HMASP was a blast. I remember writing at least one mission for this that ended up on one of the ED CD releases.. Wasn't Marek's call "Headcase"? I also remember Trakdah and Shepski. The good old days ;). Any of you still active on here? -
 Yeah, and worse, it's even annoying if you buy it, with them trying to get you to buy more stuff like different color backgrounds. How lame is that? Even after buying it for your phone they want you to buy it again for the iPad. They got money from me, hopefully if you haven't bought it yet you'll save your money.

I have the gear mapped to the pinky switch on the warthog throttle. So, flipping th switch back activates the command to lower the gear. I was beginning to think this behavior was connected to leaving the switch back, which is essentially keeping the gear down command pressed, until I saw this thread. It seems that I have repeated problems with the gear not staying down on landing if I use the pinky switch, but I have never once had the gear fail in the F15 if I simply use the "g" key to put it down. This is probably just a coincidence, but it seems to be a very strong correlation in my case.

Yeah. In fact, it is probably negative, but let's hope Q2 is good for them :pilotfly:

Well said. Unfortunately, these niche projects are unlikely to make anyone rich. The hope is that by developing a good product, the work will be rewarded well enough to encourage more projects. I'm really excited about the potential and I hope these first products will be deserving of strong support by the community and will stimulate growth in DCS.

It would be an improvement if we could map the brakes to the axis and it simply responded as brakes on or off, even if it wasn't variable braking force.

So, you're acquainted with Marvin? No doubt he will be scrambling to dust off his Illudium Pu-36 Explosive Space Modulator.

I think you want to install the latest version of DCS World, and then add the A10 module from DCS World. You then use your A10 software key to enable the A10. I bought a10 on steam, but never installed it as a stand alone. Now anytime I run it the system checks for updates automatically.

The P51 has an "Altitude Engine". I'd suggest grabbing FAA-H-8083-25A, specifically search for "altitude engine" and read about " constant speed propellers". Cool, stuff. Oh, you can download the PDF for free from http://Www.faa.gov
