Cobra, I'd love have a way to bind the cockpit illumination to a HOTAS switch. Will this be possible?.... or am I somehow missing how to do it?
-
Curious about whether or not the Tomcat and Hornet will be compatible with each other's carriers? Seems like there would need to be some kind of logic built in as to how they are handled by the deck crews, parked, reloaded, etc.

For the airports that don't have approach lights, is that just because the real airports don't? Many runways do not have approach nights, and for those that do there are a variety of systems. This seems easy enough to incorporate. Now that I think of it, I can't remember noticing airport beacons in DCS.

So, for example, no ALSF1s at Nellis? All four runways should have it... haven’t tried 2.5 yet. Do the new maps have the proper signage to mark taxiways, runways, etc and lead off lines?

Prices are silly now, and they seem to keep climbing. The 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) I bought in 2015 was under 90, up to about 170 late 2017, now over 200. Guess I should have just went with 32 then!
-
Thanks.... Hmmm, I'd like to be able to do 2.5 online.... Nothing worse than stutters at the wrong time....
-
From ED, recommended system requirements include RAM: 16 GB. So, my question, as I wait for the release version to update to 2.5, is how much of an improvement would 32Gb make? Unfortunately, memory is much more expensive than a couple of years ago when I got the first 16Gb... almost double the cost. Other specs include i7 6700K @ 4.6. 1080TI, Rift and / or single 1440P monitor. If the extra ram would really make an improvement, I'll grab some but I can't think of any other reason at this point to go to 32. Thanks.

Yeah.... I thought it was a good question on the Tigershark. Some good answers, too... I'd by that, or the almost F-23.

Upgrade went well, thanks all. Once thing I noticed was that most of my modules had 8 or 9 activations left. For some reason the Viggen only had four. That was a recent purchase and I'd only activated it once, then and deactivated it today, so how can there be only four left?

I think we should pay for the new CAUCASUS????
Cake replied to Psicodreamics's topic in DCS: Caucasus
Agreed. Moreover, some may have purchased modules in various states of in-completion, and are expecting a map to play them on when they are finally perfected!? Going forward, it would be kind of unfair for people who only purchased airplane modules to have no map to play on at all when the modules are completed. -

Thanks everyone. Do I need to deactivate once each for my two installs? 1.5 and 2.2?

Hey guys. DCS 1.5.8.x and DCS 2.2.x installed Both clean installs with NO mods. Windows 10 - Samsung 830 512Gb SATA - ASUS Z170 Premium i7-6700K Upgrading to 960EVO 1Tb m.2 - This will run both the OS and DCS. . I've also recently switched from a 390X to 1080ti without deactivating. Questions: 1. I'm not sure yet if I will clone or do a fresh install of Windows 10. Any thoughts? 2. Either way, I'm assuming that I should deactivate all of my modules because of the multiple hardware changes. To deactivate, is there an order I should follow? Do I deactivate on version 2.2 or 1.5.8 first? Or do I just deactivate on one of the versions? If I clone, is there any reason I should do a clean install of DCS? 3. Any recommendations on free/inexpensive clone software? 4. Sort of unrelated, but is anyone seeing big gains going from 16Gb to 32Gb? Wondering if I should do that at the same time? Thanks.

Right on. I used to own part of a 150. Fun little planes. Ferried a 152 half way across North America as one of my first commercial jobs....... with my left food on the left rudder pedal and my right on the copilot's right pedal. That was a roomy cockpit for one.

Oh yeah, and I can't wait to read the translation of the manual.... If I remember correctly, in English one translation was something like: "AVOID MAKING RUDE CONTACT WITH GROUND."

The Cessna Scorpion looks like it would be cool.

I've flown the Yak 52 over the US and had an absolute blast. I've also flown a 172 and had many good times, but the fact is the Yak 52 was designed as a trainer for combat pilots. It was designed to fly much more like a combat jet. Coming from a 172, trust me, the Yak is fun squared. I love flying prop planes. They are much more challenging than jets because of things like torque, p factor, spiraling slipstream, etc. And the prop rotates the "wrong" way on the Yak, so that is something different and interesting.... It always shocks me when people complain about the release of another type of aircraft. I just wish I could fly all of them.

Correct. DME channels are paired to the VHF frequencies of VORs and localizers. Note that it is possible to receive VOR guidance from one station and DME distance from another station under certain conditions, so do be sure you can verify the Morse code of both the VOR and the DME. The DME ID makes sense if you are at high altitude and are getting unexpected DME values.

Let’s be more precise. ILS stands for instrument landing system. It’s purpose is to provide alignment and descent on final approach to a runway. It has three parts. The first is GUIDANCE INFORMATION. These are mainly what you guys have been talking about... both localizer and glideslope. The second is RANGE INFORMATION. This would be from a marker beacon or DME. The third is VISUAL INFORMATION. Approach lights, centerline and touchdown lights, and runway lights. DME can be installed with the ILS and be part of the associated procedure (e.g., ILS or LOC/DME Rwy 11). If this is the case then DME can substitute for the OM, BC FAF, or other fixes along the localizer path). It would be incorrect to suggest DME is typically only from VOR or TACAN. Also, another compenent of the ILS, the Outer Marker, can provide the FAF for non precision approaches using the localizer. So, we actually do use ILS components to determine range.

Besides, if it were realistic it would fry your monitor.

Grumman OV-1 would be cool.

I agree with you. The way I look at it is I have all of the modules for about the same price as an hour of Jet A for a real L39. DCS is truly a bargain for what it is. I do believe ED could do more to broaden the market though. One way would be to find an intelligent way to lower the barriers to entry in terms of learning / setup in both time and cost that turn away all but the true believers. For example, a simplified version of WWII era combat Another would be to open up the DCS Combat World more, to civilian flight enthusiasts by modeling the world and reducing the barriers of entry for companies willing to build other models for DCS World. Find ways to encourage more people at high level and perhaps DCS could really grow in market share.

Say, what? There are good reasons we have runway safety areas RSA that also includes space to the sides of the runways. Trees aren't all frangible. There area also taxiway safety areas. These are good points about having big trees at the airports, particularly around and between runways and taxiways. Kinda doesn't make sense.

Doubtful the Garmin is compatible with the Mi8s built in HSI. A Garmin compatible HSI or CDI would be required. http://www.experts123.com/q/what-indicators-can-be-used-with-the-garmin-gns-430-and-530-series-systems.html
