Overclock 8700k for DCS or not ?
ExGreyFox replied to ExGreyFox's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It would appear that when I am running smooth at 60fps GPU usage is between 40-50%. But when My fps starts to drop, I notice GPU usage go as high as 80% Is there an easy fool proof way to OC an 8700k? Heck, if I can gain 5FPS from am OC it would be worth my time given that my FPS doesn't drop below 52 FPS. The closer I am to 60 the better. -
Hey guys, I'm a bit torn. I'm pretty happy with the performance of DCS on my current rig (in sig below) on which I am running everything at stock speeds however I always have that thought in the back of my mind of how much better could DCS perform if I pushed my 8700k with an overclock beyond what it does out of the box. Currently I'm running 3 IPS monitors in portrait surround at 3240x1920 and I'm at 60fps most of the time with the exceptional dip to about 55 and at worst cases, around 45 fps give or take in extremely populated areas. Only problem with that is since my setup has my monitors smack in front of my face, a dip below 60fps is somewhat noticeable on three 60Hz monitors all acting as one in Nvidia Surround mode. I've also considered ditching the 3 monitor setup and going for a single large monitor as I'm sure that my 1080 Ti is likely losing some performance given that it has to run Nvidia Surround (correct me if I'm wrong here). 1. From your experience, do you guys see any value in putting in the time and effort to overclock my CPU in terms of how much performance gain I may attain in DCS? 2. Would I technically gain performance in moving away from 3 monitor nVidia Surround to a single monitor at the same 3240x1920 resolution?

VKB Gunfighter Mk.II MCG PRO with Extender
ExGreyFox replied to ExGreyFox's topic in VKB-SIM Flight Gear
Thank you guys! My only concern is that I do not want to assemble and disassemble the gunfighter multiples times to try different cams and springs and thus run the risk of damage. This is why I am looking for a somewhat generally accepted cams/springs combination for using the extender. -
Hello, I was finally able to get a VKB Gunfighter Pro Mk.II MCG PRO on order which is the version with the extender. Since I will be using the extender, I understand that this will require to use the heavier springs and/or cams, so that being said: 1. Does the base of the Gunfighter Pro extender version come with the appropriate heavier cams and/or springs already installed? 2. If it does not, what would be the best combination of cams and/or springs to use for the extender? 3. How easy and safe is it for me to change out springs and/or cams to accommodate for the extender?

This would be for the pagefile on the SSD where DCS is installed right? Not OS SSD?

Worst game performance after last OB update?
ExGreyFox replied to DeathAngel1's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Tried all of that good stuff. No increase in performance back to what it used to be. It seems that the performance drop everyone is seeing is due to shadows. They've definitely spursed them up so it looks like it something we will have to live with for a while until they sort them out. -
Same here, take a look: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=227014

Significant performance drop after last update
ExGreyFox replied to ExGreyFox's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Yeah, I built this system about 3 months ago or so and have not overclocked the CPU yet. I see my CPU hit 4.3GHz on load with stock speeds. It has been running everything maxed out at 3240x1920 without skipping a beat at 60fps until now with DCS. I want to overclock, just don't have the courage to do so yet. I have the Kraken water cooler so I'm all set for overclocking. Just have not grown a pair yet  -
Significant performance drop after last update
ExGreyFox replied to ExGreyFox's topic in Game Performance Bugs
I tried deleting the Mastershaders2 and FXO folders. Should I also delete the Mastershaders folder as well? Did not see any improvement from the above. What I did do however is I went into my graphics settings and set my shadows to FLAT. This had a tremendous improvement. Still see some drops to 30fps however. Setting Shadow quality to Medium from High in addition to flat shadows further improved my experience. That being said it seems that the new updates did something with the way shadows are rendered. I am still not on the level of performance that I was when I had full shadows with High quality setting. Will try the nv control panel trick next and repairing the DCS installation next. -

I'm not on the Open Beta however. I am using the stable build. I'm assuming your fix still applies? -

Negative, what does doing what you described do and how would one go about doing such a thing? -

Same issue here. Take a look at my post: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3720533&postcount=1 -
Before the last update I had stepped away from my PC for about 2 weeks. Turned int on last night and was met with 2 massive updates, Windows 10 feature update 1809 and a massive DCS World update (didn't pay attention what the exact version was). After both updates DCS World still flies smooth over underpopulated areas at 60fps with the same settings as before the update but when I'm over Nevada or some huge city in the Persian Gulf, I am either at 60fps when I'm looking at my pit, or at a flat 30fps when I'm looking down at the buildings and clutter. Nothing in between. Maybe sometimes I will dither in the 40-50fps range for a brief moment but other than that it seems pretty binary. Its either 60fps or 30fps. It used to be very smooth, maybe drop to about 55fps over populated areas but the sudden drop to 30fps makes the experience very unpleasant. All other games still run just as nice and smooth. I went ahead and updated my nvidia GPU drivers as they were significantly behind but it made no difference in the new DCS version I was just updated to. I did try toggling LAlt+Enter but that made no difference whatsoever. Interestingly enough it used to make a difference before the update, now it simply does not. From what I'm seeing around the forums and recent posts, I'm not the only one. Any workaround on this presently?

Very frustrating indeed. Been waiting for the MCG MK.II Pro for months and still no dice. If I wanted an alternative, I would buy an alternative. I already own a hotas warthog. I want to upgrade the stick, its as simple as that.

Introducing the VKB-Sim ‘Modern Combat Grip’ (MCG)
ExGreyFox replied to rrohde's topic in VKB-SIM Flight Gear
Looks like Timo is in Cardiff, Wales. EU got stock today. NA stock is still up in the air. -
Yep, saw that too. UUGHHH!!! :joystick:
-
I checked the European website and it seems to have a lot more details than the North America website. The EU guys are getting stock on September 28th. No news for us US folks other than "Next batch expected availability: September 2018" I'm assuming around the same time as the EU store but I could be dead wrong.

Should be coming in stock soon right guys???
