List of landmarks in DCS World
Serp Supreme replied to Serp Supreme's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Ah yes, I remember that from the P-51's challenge campaign. If you can get me a location (it can be relative, say "45km bearing 075 from this airport" or something, I'll throw it in.) -
Hello pilots! In the midst of my mission making, I thought it would be a good idea to compile a list of all the neat locations and things of the like around the Caucasus map, and maybe Nevada after it's release. Feel free to contribute to this thread, and I'll add them to this list. Anapa: Football (soccer) stadium, 44°53' 0" N, 37°18' 53" E Commo Tower: 43°10' 44" N, 40°18' 28" E Dam 42°45' 35" N, 42°1' 52" E Krasnodar: Football stadium, 45°1' 42" N, 38°59' 33" E MiG-19 monument at gates to Krasnodar-Center, 45°5' 26" N, 38°58' 1" E Largest lake in game, 45° 0' 0" N, 39° 18' 0" E (if someone knows it's name, let me know) Kobuleti: Unlisted airstrip 41°50' 31" N, 41°47' 52" E Kutaisi: Two unlisted airstrips, 42°14' 49" N, 42°37' 29" E and 42°15' 58" N, 42°39' 31" E Maykop: Small football (soccer, again) field: 44° 35' 43" N, 40° 7' 53" E Mt. Elbrus 43°21' 0" N, 42° 26' 0" E Nalchik: Race track, 43° 30' 30" N, 43°36' 55" E Novorossiysk: Largest port in the game, 44°43' 25" N, 37°47' 50" E Yet another football stadium, 44°40' 56" N, 37°47' 7" E Observatory: 43°21' 8" N, 40°17' 28" E Oil Refinery: 44°49' 26" N, 38°36' 22" E Roki Tunnel 42°36' 33" N, 44°11' 3" E Sochi: Two oil platforms off the coast, 43°33' 31" N, 39°40' 14" E and 43°32' 21" N, 39°43' 14" E Tblisi: Two football stadiums, 41°42' 43" N, 44°45' 4" E and 41°44' 3" N, 44°46' 57" E (If you've got more, feel free to let me know! I know I don't have much, but I'm kind of relying on you guys :)) Many thanks to Mike Busutil for making his flight plan of all these locations! I've attached the file to this post now. However not all listed locations are in the flight plan, I've added some since he made it. I'll update it on my own later. DCS World tour.miz

Oh Christ never using JATO if I have to make that choice. How do flares work though since they're not actually a part of the aircraft?
-
Repetition, repetition, and - oh, right - repetition! Do those training missions over and over again, and once you get it down how they teach you to, feel free to deviate a little bit, maybe play around with a few of the settings, like some of the many options you have for the GBU-12s and such. Once that's done, you'll learn training and combat application are very different. First thing you'll notice after starting up missions is that things shoot back at you. The training missions don't prepare you for this, so it'll be a trial by fire. Alternatively you can just set up a mission in the editor where you just let yourself get shot at, and try dodging in multiple ways and see what works best for you and for different types of missiles. The best way to avoid missiles, you'll find, is to deny them the option to even get a shot off at you. Altitude, terrain cover, and force-correlated AGM-65s (for the extra launch range) are your best tools for this. Tl;dr DON'T STOP LEARNING

Hell I'd love to translate the manual from English to American if you don't mind :smartass: I'm fluent in both.

How to set aircraft as civillian/noncombatant?

Nope, I don't mind at all :D haha -

How to set aircraft as civillian/noncombatant?

Soooo is there nothing I can do? I don't want to use a Russian cargo plane because then when the blue players get a declaration on it from AWACS they'll get a "contact is hostile" from them, and they'd know. Blufor is supposed to be following a certain rules of engagement here. -

Alright, just tested it since I wasn't able to last night. I set all the waypoints to no reaction for reaction to threat, and yet there was no difference, the B-52 I'm using started going defensive immediately after I merged with it. Anything else that might be done? -
Yes, we have the R-60M :D we might actually get a chance against THREE flares now! Also I'm assuming that station 6 is JATO? And what is 7?
-
Another issue I'm seeing with the bore sight thing you just mentioned is the new weight difference. Those are heavy missiles and we've got a relatively light aircraft. There's going to be a (possibly) severe bank away from the side the missile was just fired from. I feel like this is going to be one of those things I'm gonna hit maybe once in 10 tries, like I used to be with the GBU-12s before I figured out how to use them :D

Top gun!

For some reason I get the feeling the MiG's air to ground sights will be something like the Su-25A's. I highly doubt it, but that's what I'm picturing, not to mention hoping for. Most likely we won't have any kind of special sight, and we'll just have to use something like the regular range screen thing usually seen on the MiG's HUD. Perhaps the laser thing will be able to give us some sort of range which we can use in collaboration with the HUD range thing (if I knew what it's called it would be very beneficial). Edit: now that I've posted that, I just got the idea that it might use said HUD thing and project a line or something onto it to show us where to aim on the range line.

Oh yeah, I didn't think about invisible. Although it's a PVP mission, so I actually don't think it'd make a difference. And I'm assuming the set option menu is in advanced waypoints? -
I could have sworn there used to be a check box for this, you could set certain aircraft (usually transport craft like Antonovs and stuff) as civilian aircraft and therefore no matter what country they wouldn't be attacked by other aircraft. Is this still an option? The effect I'm looking for is that the plane won't take defensive action when a jet comes near it, because in a mission I'm currently making I plan on having a jet fly along a path towards a target for Redfor jets, and I want the Redfor aircraft to be able to hide in really close to the transport so Blufor players' radars won't pick them up.

B-but cobra, you said you'd try to put a rocket pass in ;_;
-
hey, funny seeing you here :D
-
Ah well, fair is fair. I can't complain too much anyways, looking at all you've done for us already. Appreciate it, and that rocket pass would be greatly appreciated :3

:( Not trying to be that guy, but that's it? I would have expected some sort of weapons employment at the minimum. Something more than what's been shown in about 1/2 of the other Fishbed videos than have been released.

Back in LOMAC the wingman AI used to brilliant at holding formations, to the point where it felt much too unnatural. I could have a 4-ship right echelon and start doing barrel rolls like it's going out of style, and everyone would stay in perfect position.
-
I personally would prefer for DCS to stay out of anything before maybe 1960. I've got no interest in propeller aircraft, and don't really feel much satisfaction from gun kills unless I've got something else that provides a massive advantage (I.e. Missiles) that I could have used instead. Plus the raw power behind jet aircraft is much more fun in my opinion. But, I recognize that I'm not the only flight simmer out there, and I'll wait out for whatever WWII modules might be coming out. As long as it doesn't get in the way of the actual, fun modules I'll be happy :p

Okay, so it seems like a toss up 50/50 for smart scaling. I'm personally for it, however, the fact that it changes the size of the aircraft really bothers me as well as messes me up when dogfighting. Perhaps as an alternative, we could try sub-pixel rendering like in VBS3? What it seems to do is just force things that would normally be out of viewing range in DCS to be forced to show up at ranges which you'd still be able to see them in real life. Regardless of what happens I think something of some sort should be done. Think about it, when an airliner flies over you at some 40,000 feet, you're still able to see it from the ground.

Well, correct me if I'm wrong but I thought I've seen Chinese Air Force skins for the Su-27 in the mods section of the DCS site. If the US uses the afghan livery for the Mi-8, I don't see why you can't just have Chinese liveries for Russia. Use your imagination ^.^
