  1. Thanks a lot that helps a lot with reconnaissance. After a few more trial and error on this issue. I found out that it is indeed the laser being burned out. It was mentioned that an indicator of a burned out laser would be the countdown timer when you activate it. When it starts at 1 second counting down to 0. You know you have a burned out laser. Afterwards, upon firing a Vikhr. It would veer wildly a few kliks off the target. Same scenario as before. Question for me now is. How does one take care in order to prevent a burned out laser ? I tried slowing down my vikhr shots. Even making sure that I let every countdown reach 0 before firing. I also shut down the laser switch while in transit to and fro the target area. Even shutting it off whenever I just shift firing positions. It seems that inevitably my laser would burn out. Is there also, an indicator of what might be the current temperature of my laser ? As well as the limit before I should pause and let it cool down ?
  2. ^ When I want to have an easy day on the range... DCS Mercenaries and AEF server is usually just target ranges. Things don't shoot back :)
  3. My usual server hangouts are: DCS Mercenaries for when I'm in the mood for milk runs AEF Server for freeflighting and testing For combat sorties I go to S77th (when it's public) 159th BK Server My squadron holds mandatory flights together every Saturday evenings. Usually we run a mission that was developed by some of our members during the week. If you happen to see me, my name in-game is TAW_Ark
  4. Oh... you don't have to be picky... Believe me, I was too.... I thought I can't join this so and so squadron because they seemed to be made up of hardcore players.... But in the end; just... oh what the heck. Just join. Things will come naturally. The one thing that makes the flight-simming community (however small and rare) better than other gaming genres like MOBA's or MMO's or FPS. Is that the community are mostly made up of nice people who won't hesitate to help another (especially a newbie) in the hopes of keeping the flight sim community alive.
  5. At random and out of the blue, you start making the "boop boop boop" sound that the cockpit alarm makes when you stow the landing gear during takeoff. When you realize that the runway lights sticking out of the grass are actually "solid" and that having your landing gear collide with one will cause the said gear to be damaged and therefor must abort your flight.
  6. Best way is to find an online squad / clan / guild. Get Teamspeak or whatever their comm software is. They will be willing to walk you through almost anything. Just keep the questions coming and you'll be a decent attack pilot in no time. source: my personal experience.
  7. Been trying to find this function for a very long time now... How do I activate the 'gun funnel' reticle on the HUD for air to air engagements ?
  8. Is there any other alternate download links for this ? I've tried the one at lockonfiles. Created an account, but it says I can't access the page. Tried logging in using steam. Now it says there's a problem with 'partial credentials' or something.
  9. In the A-10C... If you designate a spot into a SPI, and then pull some wild maneuvers (i.e. evading missiles, AAA). Your SPI would shift a little bit; specially if you did a Gimbal Roll.. In the A-10 it is possible to designate that SPI as a markpoint and then have the TGP slew itself into that markpoint after pulling off some wild maneuvers. Does the Shkval have a similar function ? I already know about putting marks on the map using the panel on the upper left. Is there a way for me to reslew the shkval onto the same spot, specially if I shifted position (and thereby facing the shkval temporarily away from the target), instead of me manually slewing it back according to the map ?
  10. I do believe my laser still works at that point since as mentioned, I have the C launch authorisation cue as well as the range to the target. @Tsumikae I have the switch set to Auto. Though I also did fire using Manual mode. Both veered wildly off target. Is there any indicator at all that my laser is burned out ? Is it permanent ? Does that necessitate to going back to base and going for repairs ?
  11. Unfortunately not... it's way too long into the mission.... I might have a guess though.... Does this happen when your laser is burned out ?
  12. No wind... Unfortunately it's a huge track... It came from a multiplayer server.
  13. Been trying to attempt the said maneuver with mixed results.... I'll let you know if I'm having any difficulties. On another note; with regards to the Vikhrs. I just flew a multiplayer mission where I need to neutralize enemy units on an enemy airfield. My Vikhrs seem to want to veer off target about 2 to 3 kliks short of the target (was watching the F6 view of the missile). I am well within launch parameters of the Vikhr. 5-6 Km distance, stable hover, laser is on, waited for the launch cue, etc. Is there anything I'm doing wrong ?
  14. I think I would avoid doing the cobra-thing :) @bushmani Ahhh kind sir... I was waiting for you to turn up here again. I actually saw your video first before I saw your post. Have subscribed to your channel a few days back. Love your Ka-50 videos. I can see that you're a truly pro pilot of the Shark. I saw you pull the same first maneuver in another video of yours. I think it was the one where you shot down an F-15C using the Vikhr.... I was also wondering at that time... How the heck did you do a crash stop like that ? Wanna talk about the first maneuver first. So if I'm getting this correctly... You bank... Rudder in the opposite direction of the bank, while at the same time adjusting the collective to prevent any rise and dips. Is there any danger in this maneuver to enter a vortex ring state when executed improperly ?
  15. Is there any way I can crash stop a Ka-50 from 250++ kph to near hover state in a short distance and not much altitude change or gain ?
  16. Of one were to fly using the Style #1... what do you do when you encountered the dreaded "Warning: Under Attack" from Betty ? Nowadays though I'm more comfortable going into combat with style #1... Just that things really get hectic when I get the said warning.
  17. Back again..... pleased that we are on the topic of flying styles because that's what I'm about to ask. But first... progress report: I can pretty much fly the Shark to whatever my mind thinks off... The hands that control the cyclic and collective now naturally move according to what maneuver I want to pull. Still rough around the edges but it's improving. I am now able to do combat missions in the Shark. Started learning on the avionics as well with a little help from a few of my squadmates. I can now more or less 'dance' the Shark around a flag pole as stated in my previous goal, a few pages back. Happy to report that I'm loving the Shark all-throughout. It came to a point where it has severely cut into my stick-time on the A-10 and the F-15. Now on the topic of flying style. I have tried a few flying styles recently. 1) Hold trim - Maneuver - Release Trim - Rinse - Repeat 2) Trim once (in a while) - Deactivate Heading Hold AP Channel - Maneuver - Reactivate Heading Hold AP Channel 3) Trim once (in a while) - Flight Director Mode on I've scratched out number 2 as it feels too cumbersome for me for some reason. number 1 is the style I use on missions. I've been reading up on tactics on how to bring the Shark into combat. This style of flying seems reminiscent of a sniper, looking for good positions. Shoot. Rinse and repeat. This style is very 'tactical'. It allows me to plan my route ahead; taking into consideration known threats and the terrain. The disadvantage I see with this is that if you suddenly have the need to maneuver. You are frantically maneuvering while holding the trimmer button. Which kinds of feel awkward in my opinion and puts a little strain on the wrists. Number 3 is good for 'free-flying'. I use this when I know I'm going to be maneuvering a lot (i.e. going through valleys). It gives me the freedom I need to maneuver the Shark and not get the associated strain on the wrists. The only problem I have with this is that when I come to a point where I need to be tactical. I then switch the Number 1. The disadvantage is that it takes time (need to retrim, slow down for hover, engage auto hover, etc.) For that I need to turn off Flight Director. I am trying to put the two flying styles into a seamless whole when I'm running a mission. How about you guys ? How do you bring the Shark into combat ?
  18. As far as I can recall I did not mess around with the options.lua file Made a check and it's currently set to 2.
  19. Has anyone tried using the nose wheel lights on the A-10C ? They don't seem to work lately.... Also tried with other modules. F-15C, Su-27 and Su-33 also doesn't work. Anti collision lights on the Ka-50 also does not work... Wanna see if I'm the only one encountering this issue.
  20. Thanks in advance to whomever that can answer. I currently own FC3, DCS A-10C and Ka-50 Blackshark. I purchased FC3 and DCS A-10C directly from the site; while Blackshark was purchased through Steam. I have safely kept all three activation codes for the three modules. I'm about to put my computer through a thorough reformat. My question is: Will my activation codes still be valid ? Is there anything I should do before I commence reformat ? (i.e. deactivate the current activations). If so, can one be so kind as to direct me as to how to do it ? Thanks again
  21. I like to open the doors on the Ka-50 when I'm hovering. Does that count ?
  22. Back again.... Finally managed to free myself from the clutches of work. Now I have more time for learning and flying the Shark. I've made a bigger leap this time. -> I can now utilize the Vikhr missiles -> Use the associated (autopilot ?) assists to help me turn into targets -> As mentioned before, you can literally let the aircraft fly itself and you concentrate on flying the mission. Have already done so. -> Just mastered the startup procedures. -> Can now utilize the cannon and it's associated functions. I still need work on: Flying the aircraft (when not flying the mission) Making it go where I really want it to go. The aircraft somewhat flies recalcitrant against me for some unknown reason. My landings are still horrible.
  23. Made a few more freeflights tonight... Happy to report that I'm now able to enter hover state... albeit with a drift in a random direction. Tried activating the auto hover mode as soon as I got my airspeed lowered to at least 10. Found that it wants to nose down for some reason.
  24. Nope... not using any mods.
