  1. how bout using the slider as a temporary collective ?
  2. I don't claim to be a pro pilot. All I have is a long experience all the way back from the original lomac. Now with the new flight model, I spend more time flying the plane rather than flying the mission/ fighting... So now we're pretty much in the same boat.... My biggest advice: All those studies about cornering speed, dogfighting tactics, etc. are good. However at the end of the day, all these info must be natural and instinctive and without any effort expended into thinking all of these things while flying. In short; flying by the seat of your pants. That goes with practice.
  3. Will this also cause my engine to cutoff while in a hover ?
  4. The day after the patch came out one of my squadmates managed to kill a Leopard tank using the Huey's sling load on a head on collision. For reference; me in the Ka-50 shot the Leopard head on with a vickhr. It took two shots.
  5. I didn't know you can get a nav points screen on the mfcds too.. Is there any way of accessing it other than this export ?
  6. Been spending some time dogfighting with the new AFM... First time I've engaged in one since the patch came out... I'd say dogfighting now is indeed a challenge. On a side note; I find it nice that I can now gracefully 'dance' with a flanker.Similar to this flanker vs flanker video back in the old FC2 (starts at around 5 minutes) What gives with that roll opposite of where I'm turning ? It seems as if the plane wants to level itself out.
  7. I applaud you for being a good sport ! :D Definitely better than the last time.... BTW you mind sharing the .miz files ? Feel like having a crack at it.
  8. HUD flying... while not really a serious problem for me... Is a minor irritating one... On the merge I have this sudden urge to glance at the HUD to ensure that I am not turning myself into a stall. I've gotten into this habit of checking my flight parameters, AoA, airspeed, altitude. Like any pilot should ! Unfortunately it hinders keeping eyeballs on target ! lol :P I've yet to REALLY fly the aircraft by feel (knowing when one is about to stall and such) without looking at any indicator. Of course the lack of real G-forces contribute to that. Still; I can say you're doing fine.
  9. My cockpit's at 516. I'm aware that it used to be better than that. Wondering what caused it.
  10. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strike_Commander This... I remember coercing my parents to buy me a joystick. One of those PS2 connections that only has two buttons. Top button is used to lock targets; trigger for the cannons and weapon release. Everything else on the keyboard. This was back in 1996 or so. Didn't really get to fly afterwards. I moved on to other games. Though that small flame for what became a passion for flight simming was already there. Returned to the flying scene with (kind of ashamed to mention this) Novalogic's F-16 and F-22 Lightning 3. While these games have very simplified flight models; it at least made me somewhat proficient with BFM and tactics. The year 2003-2004 brought to my attention Lock On Modern Aircraft. Saw a CD of it on sale from a bookstore. Bought it for $20 bucks. Only to find out that my computer at that time is not even capable of meeting the minimum requirements for the game. The CD was chucked away in a drawer gathering dust. Year 2009; I finally have a system that can run LOMAC. However by then, there was the hype for the Flaming Cliffs 2 series (totally skipped the first Flaming Cliffs). So I didn't regret buying the LOMAC CD 3-4 years before. Turned out you need LOMAC anyway to play Flaming Cliffs 3. 2012, the DCS series was kicking into high gear naturally that's where I want to go. First with the Flaming Cliffs 3 series. However; I find myself again below minimum specs to run Flaming Cliffs 3. Late 2012, purchased a 'proper' gaming laptop. I have reasons for wanting a laptop instead of a desktop. Also used the money I earned during my internship to buy an X-52, Flaming Cliffs 3 and Track IR all in one fell swoop. That rapid deduction in my bank account kinda makes my friends cringe. I consider it well worth it. 2013, joined my first online squad. Most of them are A-10C pilots. I was 'relegated' to the 'boring' job of flying cover for them. After all these years as a 'dogfighter' and Air superiority pilot. I had that sudden urge to do ground attack. I first started with the Su-25T, but I did not like it for some reason. I did join them in ground attack with the Su-25T but they notoriously hate the craft, and I hated the fact that the Shkval isn't 360 degrees like the TGP. Really purchased the A-10C just for the TGP. Purchased the A-10C. Had tons of fun flying and learning. I got to a somewhat appreciable degree of competence with it. 2014 after a series of on and off hiatuses from the A-10C (due to other game commitments). Fired up the old A-10C again, in my new squad. I now fly alongside helicopter pilots. I suddenly had that random thought. How fun must it be to be down there on the weeds ? March 2014, bought the Ka-50. Unfortunately was not able to start immediately as my work commitment was very unholy. Resigned in April after having had enough. Been spending that time in the Ka-50 and I'm loving it as much as I loved learning the A-10C. On a side note; I've flown so much of the Ka-50 and grown somewhat decent with it, that my A-10C kinda suffered as a result. Pardon the wall of text; but I really love sharing my story. I always tend to lament the 'demise' of the flight sims as a gaming genre to all my other 'gamer friends'. I'd like to help the cause by at least getting one or two to join in.
  11. Just a curious question: Is there any way I can deliberately 'induce' the Shkval into showing the test image most if not all the time ? Or better still, a mod that let's you change what the Shkval looks like when it's caged.
  12. Finally fixed. Reinstalled again to the letter... For some reason it worked this time. Really loved this mod + the high contrast shkval mod, even modded the test screen on the shkval.
  13. Well yes, I did reinstall, since after the update, it reverted hack to the original
  14. Followed the installation to the letter.... Nothing much to make a mistake about when all you need to do is to copy paste.
  15. This mod doesn't seem to work with 1.2.8 anymore. <- manual installed.
  16. :P not when the tanks are already rolling in.... b'sides... one has to RTB when one is winchester... No point hanging around there would you ? :) 30 minutes is a long time to cool down the laser.
  17. I had my Ka-50 drop into the water as I was attempting to land on the kuznetsov (ran out of fuel). It floated for a while; afterwards it did sank.
  18. For some reason I'm blocked from ever doing anything on the site now... Not even to create an account. Now it says my IP is listed as a spammer. :( Wondering if it's ok to temporarily upload the files somewhere for me to download, and anyone kind enough to do it.
  19. I'm using steam to log on. I've tried using google to log in, even facebook. Created an account via e-mail. Nothing works.
  20. Will this also allow me to set the warning tone on the radar altimeter from 100m to 30m ?
  21. I can share with you my X-52 profile. I'll put my updated one. As soon as I create the visuals for it. **DISCLAIMER** This profile is a little obsolete, as since then I've added more functions on the spare buttons as and when I see fit. P.S. The pinky switch below the trigger is set as a modifier. So before anything else, please set that accordingly.
  22. The lack of an RWR annoys me. Having a good run, good recon, good attack strategy.... Boom ! You die because of a radar launched missile.
  23. That may be so.... but missions usually don't leave much room for breathing... You have no choice but to engage and engage continuously.
  24. Hi Jugg, There are interactive training missions available on this site. They cover the everything from startup, to systems to weapons employment. As for the joystick profile. I do own and use an X-52 myself. So I can lend a hand with that if you'd like. @IrregularProgramming That's a bummer. As a shark pilot, I actually enjoy more doing reconnaissance than going in there guns blazing. I like the cautious and skillful approach. Hence the use of marking things all over the place. The problem is, that when I decide that recon is over and it's time to let loose. That's when I get a burnt out laser. However I might have misrepresented the scenario a bit. I DO NOT get that burnt laser on the first sortie. Rather it's usually on the 3rd one. Head out-RTB, Head out-RTB then Head out-RTB. Once my laser was burned out; I headed back and when through a repair sequence. The first two RTB's I just rearmed and refueled without shutting down. Now... from the reading that I've done so far. I get the impression that the Ka-50's laser is a finite system. The issue isn't so much about reaching the redline temperature limit, but rather using up the gas and/or coolant used for the laser. In that case, usage of the Shkval's laser should be treated as if it also runs on fuel. Something that eventually runs out.
