Since when has the flight leader to wait until this nightcap of a wingman says: Oh, nice objectives. I could take care of it. Shall I? hmmm... no, don't like to attack here, I'll go for a sightseeing tour over the battlefield. DCS means = Digital Combat Simulator. It simulates the planes in the best possible manner. But until now it is incapable to simulate combat correctly. I feel like a one-man-show when I fly single player missions. Yesterday I even shot down my wingman with a AIM 9 because I was reeeeaaaally angry about its behavior. :gun_rifle: All points gone...:music_whistling: Like Rongor said: If it's not scripted, it will not happen.

Issues already and a new guy needs some guidance
Konrad Friedrich replied to waistcat's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Which he did, Bill. ;) I checked it yesterday. I think it's a messed input file. -
At a first glance I thought: Oh, it's better now, because in the first mission I flew after patch 1.2.3 the AI worked nice. It appears that this was by chance. The AI executed orders satisfactory at a random manner before. After flying several missions with version 1.2.3 now, it feels that it's almost worse than it was before... :furious: :furious: :furious: I'm really getting angry about this! It is quite a expensive and time consuming hobby... But meanwhile I feel that I'm wasting my time. It's still a great, great pleasure to virtually fly the A-10C (and the other modules). But it's a pain in the ass to try to fly the single player missions. Because it does not work! It's a waste of time and efforts. At ED: Change it - or you will loose customers. From my side, this means: I will not buy any module in the future (either ED or 3dparty) before this huge problem is resolved. Excuse me, but we were patient enough.

Can't say if it runs correctly... you shut down the plane before it runs up to 100% ;) I really think it's a messed up axis and key mapping. Delete that input folder. I bet it will help. :joystick: -

In the attachment you'll find a checklist that works for me. 4 StartUp Guide.pdf -

hm, hm, hm.... Funny thing is, that the left engine starts running - but the throttle lever does not move... Ahm... In my checklist I set the AC Gen switches (right console, below APU Gen Power) before setting battery, inverter and starting the APU. If it's not that, I bet you got messed keymappings. Delete the entire Input folder. (C:/user/saved games/DCS/Config/...) DCS will create a new folder when you restart the program. Make sure your Hotas and rudders are connected. -

wait a minute, I'm checking the track file. -

Just post your check list, or record and attach a track file. That's the easiest way to help you. As Hamblue said, you most likey overlooked something. And... Jeeeez, plug in that TMWarthog! :D -
To put it in a nutshell: Buy it. Even if you're not interested in the military part of the simulation. Although there is currently only the Caucasus map. You will not regret it. Just (virtually) flying the DCS A-10C, K-50 or P-51D is a great, great pleasure. :pilotfly:

Feels great to defeat that AI, huh? Congratulation!
-
Good point ... I completely forgot that you can use the target software...
-
I think I know what you mean. I also fiddled how to assign the switches. It looks as if the simulation does not read out the default positions of the switches for the P-51 (which it does for the A-10). Which means that you can't assign a function to the middle position of the three way switches whereas you only can assign one position of the two way switches. For the flaps: I've mapped them to the flaps switch. The upper position to flaps up and the lower position to flaps down. I simply click the switch back and forth to extend/retrieve flaps. Works pretty good. But it would be nice if it could be mapped like the switches for the A-10C.

I had a few missions after the 1.2.3 patch where the AI was pretty good. And I thought: Oh, nice. It's way better now. But after several more attempts I'd say: in the end the wingman AI fails in most cases. Sometimes the guy is responding properly and attacks after he confirmed his target. Sometimes he denies to attack completely. Although you get a nice "Confirmed", our unfaithful companion seems to prefer to fly a sight-seeing-tour above the battlefield... Occasionally, he will not react to the command 'rejoin'. I checked the manual for the correct procedure over and over again. I'm sure it's not my fault. ;) Alas... ...therefore my first command to the Wingman in single player Quick Missions is: RTB. At least he interprets this command correctly.:P

Hi Jens, i agree. There should be an AI that makes it easier to actually win a fight for beginners or intermediate simmers. And I agree that it may drives away beginners because it is too frustrating. About trim: You need to trim all the time to fly as energy efficient as you can. Check out the track files and watch my settings.:D Well, to be honest it's not allways about energy efficiency. Sometimes the trim tab an flaps settings are pure plane abuse :D But in a dogfight you really need to pull every stunt you can perform. If you need to lower landing gear to bleed off speed to get into shooting position - than just do it :(ok, that's not a standard maneuver - but real pilots did it :-) ) I think you can try mp. Unfortunatelly there are not much P-51 servers... I think you allways learn more from human players. If you meet some nice guys they may provide you with some good tipps... after they have shot you down :music_whistling: :D Maybe we can meet online? Currently I'm a bit busy but maybe on weekends? Regards, Konrad

Yes, it's pretty hard to get that bastard... The AI makes no mistakes. You really need to learn the complex system of a WWII fighter plane. Learn how to trim your elevators, use flaps, manage your engine. Keep in mind that you don't need full manifold pressure all the time. The more energy the engine produces, the less maneuverable is the plane. 61 in Hg manifold pressure is for accelleration - or running away ;) (You'll rarely need to set to WEP) Check out the 'Show me your mad dogfight skills' thread. I've posted three videos there on how to cope with the AI. There are the track files attached. Check them out. Load those replays and hit Ctrl+Z (could be Y - Im not sure). Now you can move your head in the cockpit so you can see how I set trim and flaps. Press RCtrl+Enter to display the controls window in the lower left corner. Don't get discouraged. It is pretty hard. Like the real thing. Btw.: I was flying ROF since it was released. Some guys may remember me and my belgian 'Olislagesrs' Sopwith Camel. But I think it is more like E-sports now. After getting into DCS I don't think I will go back to it. ;)

You won't call it a flight 'game' anymore, once you've noticed that it is a simulation. :smilewink: The TM16000 is a quite good and very precise stick - but it may be a little bit difficult to fly the plane and cope with all the buttons and switches in the cockpit and remember all these keyboard commands... ;) You should get something like e.g. the Saitek X-52. The TM Warthog is the holy grail for this simulation - but it's quite expensive... well... I have never regretted that I bought it. ;) Rudders are nice, too (a must for the TM Warthog, it has no twist stick). And a pair of TM MFCD's... :music_whistling: A head tracking device is an essential part of the simulation experience. I use TrackIr for years now. But you can also check out FaceTrackNoIr. You can find it here: http://facetracknoir.sourceforge.net/home/default.htm All you need is a good webcam. FaceTrack is a non commercial programm released under 'General Public License (GNU)'. Which means that it is free (but you may donate some bucks if you find it useful;)). Check them out - it's compatible with DCS. I'm sure somewhere in the forum you'll find help setting it up. You'll be surprised by the tremendous boost of immersion into the simulation.:smilewink: :pilotfly: Happy flying - and welcome to the addiction ;)

You can install DCS world into a folder according to your requirements. e.g. I've installed it into my games folder. You need all four downloads! You'll end up with four files: one Setup file and three data files. All 4 files should be downloaded and put into one folder before launching setup. Filenames are of importance, don't rename anything. Run the Setup (DCS_World_en_1.2.3.9871_134.exe). DCS will create another folder in your windows user folder (C:\user\*your_user_name*\saved games\DCS) where it will store your config files, screenshots, tracks, custom missions. After installing 'World' you just install the 'A-10C module'. When the installer asks where to install, simply point it to the 'DCS World' folder. Run DCS World. I think the programm will ask for the activation key when you load a A-10 mission for the first time. Just enter the key code and confirm. After succesfully installing World and the A-10C module you can remove the standalone 1.1.1.1 version of the A-10 from your harddrive. You don't need it anymore.
-
I guess you mean version 1.1.1.1 of the A-10C? It's best to download DCS: World and the up-to-date module of the A-10C. You can use your ver. 1.1.1.1. key-code to activate that version. DCS: world has an auto updater - so no need to bother with updates anymore ;) DCS World is here: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?ProductId=21&end_pos=137&scr=product&lang=en Here is the A-10C Version 1.2.3 : http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=product&ProductId=8&end_pos=136&lang=en DCS World is quite big. It takes a while to download. In addition you get the Su-25 for free. If you want to go online you need DCS World. Btw: The AI wingman is not the smartest guy who ever sat in the cockpit of a A-10C... ;) Meanwhile the AI wingman executes commands way better than before, but in the end you have the most fun when you fly online with other virtual pilots. And you learn more and faster. ...and there is plenty to learn... :D

The everlasting miracle of the Internet. ;) Looking for something - and some guy on this big wide world was reading exactly this passage on the train home.
-
Just a bit more easy on the throttle. Get a feel for the delay between throttle movement and speed. And less stick movement. Fine trim the plane all the time. So far it's pretty good. Only a little more practice. And... sing! :D
-
I 'trololol' everytime while refueling. :P Yep - the best advice (besides singing loud) : ignore the boom.
-
My advice? Check out Grayson Frohbergs video. And... try singing while refueling, or 'trololol-ing' like Grayson calls it... Helps a lot :D I've watched the video a few times and learned a lot. Now aerial refueling is real fun! And if you disconnect - just hit the nose wheel steering button (what ever it is on your hotas). This will reset your air refuel status lights (just below the standby compass right side of your HUD). Here is Grayson Frohbergs video:

What do you think why I have bought a tablet pc? :music_whistling:
-
Page 503, Aircraft shut down. ... 1. Close the speed brakes 2. Set wheel brakes 3. Set Anti-Skid switch to OFF ... In point two one might assume that it means: parking brakes. Funny. Was reading this passage on the train on the way home on my tablet pc. :P

According to U.S. Air Force the hit rate is about 80-90%.
