ooops... could've been changed with one of the last updates... I changed the standard mission as soon as the FW190 AI arrived. So... I'm not sure... blush... :P
-
You need to make your own mission. e.g. open the instant action misson P-51 dogfight mission and change the russian P-51 to a FW190. Save that file under a new name - and enjoy.

The first thing: You trimmed the plane tail heavy. The yellow marking on the trim wheel of the elevators only looks like it's trimmed nose heavy. This is apparently a problem of the view point of your 'virtual eyes'. When you check the position with TrackIR and take a look from the side you can see it's trimmed neutral. Leave it where it is when you begin your start up procedure. Next fault was to try to hold the tail wheel down for that bit too long. Let tail wheel rise when it wants to rise and run on the front wheels for a while. The moment the plane took off, the slightly tail heavy trim and your somewhat startled overcompensation (:joystick:)of the immediate lift, the sudden too high angle of attack, the torque of the engine twisted the plane, you pulled even more to get it off the ground, you pulled to the right to counter the dropping left wing, even more 'aoa', even less lift, left wing stall - and that was the end... Btw: - Prime a little bit longer. 3-4 seconds is ok. - Uncage your flight indicator. - You shouldn't taxi with 1500 rpm- especially not with an cold engine... 1000 rpm is enough.

Then it's possibly time that you show us your outstanding programming and compiling skills, buddy. A comment like this is neither useful nor is it fair. I don't like it. To say the least. @Nume Noctre Yes it's still quite a heavy load for even decent systems - but we all hope for the new 'edge' sim engine ;) [EDIT] booohooo... while I wrote this half a dozen other buddies mentioned the new 'edge' engine... lol -
Guys... lol... ...you are not really argue about the colour of the screen that you'll see for less then 10 seconds during start-up? Especially now that it's fixed to the realistic colour? :P I love this community! :D:thumbup:

Trying to learn to fly this thing- Is it really possible?
Konrad Friedrich replied to Charley's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Thanks! I'll check that out. If anyone has another good suggestion - drop a note ;) My 'problem';) is that I got a complete studio setup here for recording and - mainly - production and mixing purposes. (yes - that looks pretty weird - a place full of cables, small mixing console, controllers, keyboard... my beloved bass... and sometimes a even more weird looking setup of my flight gear... lol) My audio setup runs through firewire and any microphone has to go into that system and then routed back to the headphones or monitors. That works pretty good with low latency - unless I start teamspeak. I then can hear myself with an delay. I I've tried to not route my own voice back - but talking without hearing what you say is somewhat weird... I've tried to sort it out but I gave up at some point... I'm a laaazy guy... :music_whistling::D Oooops. I think we are off-topic here... Sorry.:P -
Trying to learn to fly this thing- Is it really possible?
Konrad Friedrich replied to Charley's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Good points here, Josh. And I agree. I don't use curves either for the P-51 with the TM Warthog because I don't have the feel that I need it. I've tried it for a while but I feel more comfortable without. And I think it depends to a certain degree what hardware you use. (I think I can remember that some of the devs mentioned that they recommend to set curves because of the short throw of the an PC joystick.) It's up to the virtual pilot what he/she will prefer when getting grips on their sim plane. But for any newbie it's a big help to get used to the somewhat unpredictable behaviour of the Mustang. It helps to ease the frustration whenever the handsome Pony turns out to have the heart of a wild Bronco :P And... riding on the absolute edge of a stall turn is anyway out of reach for any beginner... :joystick: -

I like the seriousness of your efforts to learn the Mustang, Doctor. :smartass:  ...and a question of input precission. -
Trying to learn to fly this thing- Is it really possible?
Konrad Friedrich replied to Charley's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
I mentioned it a few times and I think it's a real good idea to fly with some experienced online pilots. I like the Virtual Aerobatics Public server because there are no weapons allowed and you can practice simple flying maneuvers or aerobatics or formation flying (watch the VH guys - they are pretty good ;)). My callsign is 'Duc'. If you meet me there - contact me via chat (RAlt+m) and I'll be happy to lend you a helping hand. And you can contact the other P-51 guys. Most of them are really helpfull. If you have teamspeak - even better. (sorry - I can't set up my rig for teamspeak. I get terrible mic/headphone latancy issues due to the nature of my audio setup. Maybe I should get one of these nice usb-headsets with build in soundcards?). You should set the curves of your joystick. This will help to minimize overcompensation and input errors to a certain degree. Next important thing is elevator trim - if you're lucky to have enough axis on your joystick/hotas - map it to that axis. Learn to trim. Go online - don't be shy. Talk to the next Mustang buddy. You'll see: It's all about learning the behaviour of the plane. Once you 'got it' you'll see that this is a superb flying machine. Flying it is a great pleasure, even if you are not interested in the military nature of the plane. It's modell in this sim is a masterpiece. -
Update 1.2.4.12913.167 discussion
Konrad Friedrich replied to Erforce's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
It fixed the annoying 'weeeeeeeeeeennnn' noise/sound in the P-51 when FW190 are in the same mission. That's enough for me. Ok... ahem.. cough, cough... was that selfish?? :D -
I'd suggest to get this small Saitek Throttle Quadrant (that one with the three levers). I'ts not that expensive (I think it's about 45 Euro). Map your throttle control handle and the propeller control to the these levers plus use one to map your elevator trim. For the rudder and aelerions you'll do fine when they are mapped to the buttons of your stick. That will add a lot of feel (and fun)! Oh, and welcome to the P-51 addiction :smartass: And if you are getting crazy: get the TM Warthog - or wait till Logicnc.com has finished his P-51 HOTAS ;) http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=105956

It does not stall too easy - you just have not learned how to counteract its behaviour. :joystick: 1. Your energy state is worse than that of th AI. 2. Your trim is 'off'. I can outperform the AI at any time ...if I did not make any unnecessary mistakes. Admittedly, this is a point about which one can argue: The AI does not make any mistakes. It's allways on razors edge. I've seen lot's of guys flying at full manifold pressure and max. rpm, skidding, flying with no trim at all, bleeding energy with way to much stick input, struggling with stalls - bleeding even more speed and energy... I could go on... When they are running at full thrust all the time - how should the plane be able to accelerate? I stay below 50 inHg most of the time and push it to the limit when I need it. Until now nobody forced me to use WEP. Join us online - ask a good pilot for some advice, follow him, listen to him. And you'll see: It's all about learning the plane, it's characteristics and it's behaviour. You'll be surprised what the Pony can do ;) Don't worry - we've all gone through this intimidating learning process. :pilotfly:
-
You are welcome - at any time :) And prepare to be surprised what one can do with the Pony ;)
-
DigitalAura, the best advice I can give is: go online and ask experienced P-51 pilots if they take you with them for a flight training. That will help to sort out lots of confusion. What joystick do you use? Do you have rudder pedals? You should map elevator trim to an joystick axis - you need to trim the Pony all the time. If you go online and see a buddy with the callsign 'Duc' you have found me. Just ask - and I'll do my best to help. You may find me on 'VirtualAerobatics'. (but not today - it's 2:45 a.m. here... time to go to bed ;)) Regards 'Duc'

Focke-Wulf not Fokker ;) I think you mean how to dogfight with the FW190? Open the standard quick mission in mission editor and change the russian P-51 buddy to a FW190.
-
Gavagai posted here about it: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=106768 I only had that problem when dogfighting against an Focke-Wulf AI. Online all is fine.

Stay cool, buddy ;) Go to: C\users\*your name*\DCS\saved games\config\input Remove that folder (the input folder) - just place it on desktop in case you need it as backup. Start the DCS sim. DCS will create a new default input folder. This will sort out any conflicts. But you need to re-assign any custom settings/key mappings you made so far. Regards Duc -
Calls for ACMI,getting frustrated with quickstart mission

I never have TiR problems online. But I mapped the TiR reset to the mic cooliehat switch on my TM Warthog. So I don't need the keyboard. Should do the same. -

They restarted the mission right when you touched down ;) I hope you got a feel what the plane can do when trimmed properly. Next time we'll do some fake-dogfighting. No one get's hurt but you can learn much ;) And never mind... even Chuck Yeager was a newbie when he started. cya. Regards Duc -

Konrad Friedrich replied to TheDoctor's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Good setup :) I think you mean you mapped the elevator trim to the slider next to the right of the right throttle? Good. Try this: Set engine to 2700rpm and 45 inHg (max. continous). Now pitch the plane only using your elevator trim. Use the stick for roll only. That will give you a good feel what the trim can do - and what not. When chasing another plane you need to trim constantly - the stick is used for finer adjustments. You'll see how precise your flying will get ;) -

Btw: Do you have rudder pedals? Very important: you need permantent access to your elevator trim (at least elevator). Works best when mapped to an axis of your controller. Effective trim is the key to fly the Mustang (and any other plane) on razors edge ;)
