no worries, remember to watch your speed. Btw, try F-5's Air to Air quick mission - it's 1vs1 against F-14. You start on his 6 and can unload Sidewinders into him for a quick kill, but keep to guns only (at least initially) for some fun.

Have you tried checking connection between the grip and the base? Are pins properly aligned? I've had my joystick for quiet a while now and never had that problem...

Announcement - new A-10C DLC training campaign
mx22 replied to baltic_dragon's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Just had a chance to fly the demo - great stuff! I will definitely buy the campaign once you get it out. Thanks a lot for the hard work! -
It was suggested above to use DXTweak. I assume with soft springs, you need to be REALLY careful with roll/pitch inputs - there is only 15 degrees of travel in either direction. Even on unloaded default springs, I was pushing into 6-7g territory without realizing it...

lol yea, that would be a bit of a long drive;) You mentioned customs here in NY so I figured you are somewhere around.
-
Don - if you are in NYC area, drop me a PM when you get your cams from VirPil, we can meet and I can swap the cams for you if you need help. Cheers!

Here is the link: https://virpil.com/images/support/VPC-MongoosT-50-BASE-Quick-Start---ENG.pdf Pitch cam is hard to put in the first time around, but you can work it in with some elbow grease.

Are you playing in window mode or full screen? In window mode it is possible your mouse is trying to click outside of DCS window when buttons/switches are located near the edge of the screen.

Thanks Cyph3r - I've just sent an email to the support.

Here is a quick engagement with the first F5 from campaign's practice mission. I'm still testing my new joystick so flying is not as perfect as I would like. Fun starts at the 3min mark. I'm coming in with a lot of speed and unload into altitude - as I initiate the climb, I try to keep enemy centered at the back edge of the canopy, just barely visible when I turn head (I'm flying VR, so when I say barely visible at my head turn, I do mean it). At 3:40 mark, after the combat turn, I have over 7000ft advantage and a much higher speed. I judge that there is enough vertical separation for me to turn for a gun pass, I cut throttle and start lead pursuit. 4:05 mark, engagement is pretty much over at this point - I know I have angles on AI and it's now a matter of putting bullets into him. Far from perfect aiming, but I let him fly into my bullets at 4:28. Tacview-20170823-233608-DCS-F-5E - BFM01 Practice 1 vs 1 GO vs F-5E.zip.zip

Just watched your track. You are entering the fight at 1:11 with almost 150kts speed advantage over AI, however after the merge you start breaking hard into the opponent with 6-7g's vs his 3g. At 1:21, just 10 seconds later, you already have less speed than AI, pretty much at the same altitude as him and with barely any, if any at all, angles won. 10sec later, at 1:32, at the top of the combat turn you have 50kts less than AI and you initiate lead pursuit. At 2:11 you are 60kts slower, forced out of gun range but still trying to keep your nose ahead of the enemy - at this point you are not gaining anything, just wasting your speed; 7 seconds later, at 2:18 AI got another 600ft of separation on you and speed difference is now 83kts and it just keeps on going... Basically you are trying too hard to get him in your sights asap. I would have done a more relaxed combat turn/corkscrew to try to end up over AI at the top of my turn and then would have tried to lead pursuit (given there is enough separation and I feel I have a chance) to close the range for a gunshot. Lag pursuit when you are running low on speed - force opponent to turn harder then you are and waste his speed; if you see him getting out of your plane of maneuver, point your nose high/low and rotate to keep target in sight (high/low yo-yo). Another thing to keep in mind is your corner speed (ie best turning speed) in F5 is around 350kts; below 300kts F5 is a pig.

What's the default AI level in the campaign? F5 vs F5 wasn't hard - after head-on merge I would do an Immelman and AI usually starts with a flat turn and then tries to climb up to me (so kind of a delayed combat turn). I pretty much always end up on top and the main thing after that is to get into the same plane of maneuver for a good tracking gunshot in time (mission allocates certain period of time before calling end of engagement). If I screw up my advantage though and see AI starting to get upper hand, chopping throttle and forcing flat or rolling scissors forces AI to overshoot, just try to maintain enough energy to be able to turn into the plane of maneuver and at lag pursuit until you get enough energy. I'll try to look at your track later on today when I get on my PC.

I too like pilot body, but honestly - I don't know if it's all that practical on modern jets where you have a lot of buttons/switches. Neither A-10C, Mirare or Viggen have pilot bodies (and I think Mig-21 doesn't either). Perhaps making hands semi transparent?

Hi Cyph3r, Here is the screenshot of dxtweak. X axis (roll) is centered and can travel full length of the bar. Y axis is not centered and at full deflection in either side, there is one bar left to go. Springs are not tighten all the way... Also, there is some spiking in numbers a lot of the time in both axis in Value and Raw fields when joystick at rest (I'm using no center cams in case it matters).

Did you fly Warthog with the same extensions as T50? For me, extensions were the biggest game changer on how easy it is to control any of the planes - the longer, the better. I see no difference between Warthog and T50 in this regard. I think spring loading is dependent on what plane you fly. Spit is super sensitive as is, putting soft springs will just make you burn your energy faster - this is definitely one of the planes that could benefit from stronger springs IMO (even with default springs, it does not take much at all to induce heavy breathing from the 'pilot'). It's all very individual though, so I guess whatever floats your boat;)
-
I've just re-connected Warthog to see what it shows in Windows and it is fairly similar to T50 - so, as I suspected, this is non-issue and there appears nothing wrong. I've calibrated T50 in Windows and tried in DCS - I don't think Windows calibration is limiting axis movement in anyway. There is also an option to reset to default setting in calibration settings....
-
I'm not sure if it's even a problem - really just something I noticed and figured I'll ask. Here is how it looks in Window calibration for me.
-
Rock it side to side and it will come out. Btw, it's only hard to put it in first time, second time it goes almost like a butter lol - I've took my joystick apart what must be 4-5 times already playing around with cam/spring combinations and will do more tests when I get my missing springs and replacement cams in... It gets easier and faster with each time. One thing I did notice, in either Windows calibration or DCS - are you guys able to deflect pitch axis all the way up/down? Mine never seems to be able to get to the edge, no matter what spring I use and how much I tighten/free it up. Roll axis is just as it should, it's just as if I'm hitting mechanical limit on pitch axis slightly before I should...

You should definitely take the base apart and try different cams/springs - otherwise you do not know what you are missing on. Being able to adjust the feel of the joystick is IMO the biggest advantage of T50 over Warthog. It's fairly easy and straight forward, can't really mess it up. The only 'trouble' spot is putting new pitch cam in place, but it goes in with a bit of elbow grease.

You certainly could use them for flight sims, it's just not ideal. You obviously don't get the rudder's back and forth movement, instead you are relying on two pedals independent axes to generate rudder action for you. CH used to produce USB rudder pedals (non pro) that were basically two pedals, each with its own, independent axis - similar to driving pedals I used to own them and used them for years and years for flying - eventually I just worn them out to a point where I threw them out and went and bought CH Pro pedals - it was very hard to re-teach myself to a completely different rudder function. PS. Not sure why LG G27 wheel is so expensive. I was looking at driving wheels not too long ago and it looked like many people consider them inferior to either TM or Fanatec wheels and you can get TM T300 wheel/pedals combo for around $500 if I'm not mistaken. P.PS. you probably should open a new thread if you want to discuss driving vs flying pedals...

So I had a couple of hours now to play with the base, here are some notes: - My base came without the extra springs. I actually only got 1x red (hard) and 1x white (soft). - Pitch cam is hard to put in place. The whole process is fairly quick and straight forward, it's just properly aligning pitch cam takes some force and time. - I did not try default cams as I really wanted no center cam (3 dots). Unfortunately my no center cams are messed up. After installing them and trying the joystick, my first impression was to go and throw it out - there were control problem near the center. Remembering someone complain about surface problems on their spare cams, I decided to install soft center cams (4 dots) to see how things would change. Put it all back together and it was a night and day difference - T50 is definitely on par with a well tuned Warthog, but has adjustability that TM does not. - Adjusting spring tension allows to adjust the feel of the joystick near the center/mid travel point of gimbal. Joystick remains tight near the edges no matter how you adjust your springs - it's a gradual build up and is far superior to TM where tension was constant through the whole travel of gimbal. I'll try to post more tomorrow on my current setup and the table mount.

Brake lever is an axis or a button.
