Awesome... :)

I suggest you read the book "A-10s over Kosovo". A must-read for every DCS A-10 pilot! I've just finished reading it and it describes the tactics of A-10's using willy pete rockets to mark targets for striker attacks. They were A-10A's as OAF happened in 1999. If I understand correctly (and I'm no expert) - just because you have a targeting pod does not mean other aircraft in the strike group have them. Even if they do, it does not mean you'll always have a datalink up. Also, such things as datalinks can in theory be jammed by the opfor. OAF was a joint NATO operation with aircraft from different countries participating in strikes and they even used MK82's to mark targets during daytime. Just my 2c, although Eddie summed it up greatly!

I've always seen high-powered IR lights that are quite visible to the naked eye from a dozen meters or so, they emitted a faint red glow. Is yours totally invisible?
-
Just tried that today, and it's quite tough. I've found out you would want the air refueling slipway button mapped to your stick as you'll have to cycle the refuelling system quite a few times before you get the hang of it. It is fun though. :)
-
I've learned the hard way that learning to trim the aircraft is one of the most essential skills you must master in order to fly. :)
-
That is probably the hardest thing for me after air refuelling. :))

Just read the book myself. Great read!

I am also new to the game and looking for pilots to fly with, drop me a line, thanks!

That was an awesome line. :) -
Emergency landing without dual throttles and wheels?

Thanks for the video, I haven't seen it, actually! "Aaaahh, meeerde!" cracked me up, as he has already skidded a couple hundred feet down the runway... *heavy breathing* :) Anyways, the A-10 doesn't retract the main wheels fully so it can actually land on the belly with less damage to the airframe, I guess... -
Nope, sorry for not being clear: CCIP and CCRP require EGI, but not EAC. PAC on the other hand requires EAC, which, in turn, requires EGI to be operational. HARS seems to be only good for feeding the ADI and for the TADS functionality. That's how I see it... :)

Thanks for all the discussion guys! Intriguing!

The SST can be a bit jerky at times, just restart it when you messed it up and try reassigning again. I managed to set my stick up in a couple of days by gradually adding functions and thorougly testing them.

Does this game heat your GPU up?
The LT replied to AndroidVageta's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There is nothing wrong with a GTX 580 @ 85C, it's still way below it's TMax, which is over 100C. -
The A-10 CDU has a possibility of adding mark points and they can be used as navigational aids if that's what you're asking. :)
-
I did a check on the modes, the CCIP and CCRP, Gun Funnels don't work in HARS mode and don't require EAC to operate, only LASTE and PAC does, apparently... Somehow that makes me wonder how the earlier A-10's employed their delivery modes, obviously they did not have EGI and only had HARS, but I'm not well versed in these matters. Any ideas?
-
The ADI needless got ya, I see. :) They did get me as well at first as well!
-
I am still a noob here, but won't assigning them all to a single profile and giving them a high QTY number in Ripple Pairs mode would fix the problem? I'd also actually use CCRP mode for automatic release of the whole bunch. Any particular reason you need CCIP?
-
I believe the EAC switch will become automatically disengaged if EGI malfunctions! I also believe CCIP would work but don't quote me on it, I'll double-check.
-
Rongor is right. The flight instruments like HSI and ADI should work with HARS as a backup system, and they do work if you do a cold-start, you'll notice them come alive before the EGI system is online. Also, TACAN and ILS should also work as they don't rely on HARS or EGI, but instead on functional radio equipment. :)
-
Good advice. To elaborate a bit more, a fast way to get there is to hit FUNC and number 2 on the upfront controller (UFC).
-
Batumi Intl. Airport in-game has a PAPI and ILS at 110.30 Mhz and also TACAN at 16X for inbound flights. Just sayin', did numerous landings there. The stow/able switch under the HSI also got me, but I managed to figure it out before landing. Did you know you can also lower the volume of the ILS beacon on the ILS panel or mute in completely on the panel to the right with the red switches, I don't remember the name for it offhand...

Emergency landing without dual throttles and wheels?
The LT replied to The LT's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
When I touched down, the front strut really did jolt the aircraft before collapsing, for a moment I thought I was a goner. I'll definately keep that in mind next time, as I couldn't really raise the gear (or what's left of it) as I had no hydraulics. I probably should have dropped the gear using an emergency lever and let someone visually confirm it, but it was a single player mission. -

Yeah, I've checked the iWarthog checklist (which is taken from the manual IIRC) after landing and that's exactly what I did, while missing out on some points. I think that speedbrakes would have worsened the situation and destabilized the AC. I believe it's not really fully applicable when landing a severely damaged aircraft without a wing and half of the tail. Roll response was greatly reduced... BTW, a quick question: Are speedbrakes hydraulically actuated or electrical? I also don't find it tremendously realistic when all three wheels got away somehow. :) I can imagine the main wheels, but the nosewheel? It's hidden in the front fuselage bay! Just to make it clear, I understand the tires could get blown by the shrapnel, but they were gone like in all gone, no rims even! -
Thanks for the comment! What I'm trying to do now is drop bombs at various flight envelopes (steep roll angles, tailslides, etc, etc) and get a feel for it, while at the same time trying to find a meaningful correlation. :)
