I've been using Facetrack with a 3 point hat clip. It works great except during the day when I have some IR interference from a window with open blinds. Closing the blinds is NOT an option (just ask my wife). I tried a visible light camera with the faceAPI but due to the fact I am facing a corner with my setup, the camera can't distinguish my facial features unless the exposure rate is at about 10 FPS (unacceptable). Can I use the faceAPI with an infrared camera? Can I use it both in daylight and semi darkness? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. John

Any reason why this wouldnt work?
Thick8 replied to USAFMTL's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I use an Acer 16" 1366x768 monitor for my Cougar MFCDs. The pixel size of each MFCD is 441x441. I also have the RWR between the at 244x244 pixels and the digital clock. everything is very clear and easy to read. I got mine for $40. John I just looked on Ebay (where I got mine) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Acer-X163W-16-LCD-Monitor-/261218938389?pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item3cd1dcae15 -
Need help: DCS crashes when trying to export MFD
Thick8 replied to happysleeper's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Do you have full screen turned off in your video settings? -
I set the MAV slew speed to 1 yet the cross still races across the MFCD screen. It there a LUA file I need to edit somewhere? John

Using Facetrack with the Freetrack plug in is very smooth and accurate. I'm thinking of removing the visible light filter I installed in my tracking camera to see how the facetracking works. Is anyone using Facetrack without IR that can tell me how well it works? i'm using a 6 core CPU with a core dedicated to tracking so CPU cycles shouldn't be an issue. John

Yea, some guy named Lucky Palmer. I know, it kinda sounds like a used car salesman's name but that's what it said. John

Let's see. I was a 67n Huey mechanic in the U.S. Army. Then a Ford Motor Company mechanic for 28 years. Now I teach diesel technology in a corporate sponsored Career and Technology High School program. This will be my first summer off since 1979. Woohoo!

I love FSX. Of course I have about $300 in 3rd party software and $500 in hardware that makes it both beautiful and a joy to fly. The flight physics are a little lacking but it's great for learning proper procedure.

In this month's issue of Popular Science it was stated that the Oculus Rift "May have a consumer unit available in the next few years". So don't hold your breath. John

Hi all. I've relocated my MFCDs and RWR on a 16" monitor. I'd like to remove them from displaying on the aircraft (A-10c). Is this possible? Tia John edit: I did try PeterP's "export-fixed-for-DCS-A-10 1.1.1.1 and a example LUA" download with no joy. Everything still displayed in the cockpit. second edit: Here's my monitor LUA _ = function(p) return p; end; name = _('16inchmonitor'); Description = 'MFDs on 16 inch monitor'; Viewports = { Center = { x = 0; y = 0; width = 5836; height = 1080; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = 5.403703703703703; } } LEFT_MFCD = { x = 5890; y = 60; width = 441; height = 441; } RIGHT_MFCD = { x = 6701; y = 60; width = 441; height = 441; } RWR_SCREEN = { x = 6397; y = 0; width = 244; height = 244; } UIMainView = Viewports.Center

Let's see. I have $1000 in monitors. $2000 in a computer. $700 in controllers. Really, what's another $6000 for a complete cockpit? I'm in. Give me the frame dimensions so I can build it and I'll buy 1 or 2 panels at a time. John

Bodnar board with the "easy" wiring connector help
Thick8 replied to MacFevre's topic in Home Cockpits
Stick with the stranded wire for ease of use and solder the end. The connector will grip the soldered end better than solid core wire. John -
I use Windows 8 64bit with no problems at all. I came strait from Vista so I can't comment on Windows 7. John

Most of the multiplayer mission start with no weapons loaded. I'm wondering if something is missing from my 3 screen setup. Where do I pick my loadout? John

Intel or leave well enough alone?
Thick8 replied to Thick8's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I found a 500Gb Samsung 840 for $290. I just got done installing a copy of Windows8 that I've had laying around for a while. Actually I just got done reinstalling my software. 22 seconds from when I push the button till it's at the desktop ready to go. It's sweet. I may hold off on the rest of the upgrade for a couple of weeks. Just spent the last week in the mountains and the checking account's lookin' a little light. John -
Hi Guys, I've been using Freetrack for a few years now. I re-purposed a Logitech 30 FPS camera and built a 3 point IR emitter unit. I like it and it does a good job of following my head around. I have sometimes wondered if TIR would do a great job of following my head around. Anyone having experience with both willing to give a comparison review? John

HawgTouch - Free Panels & Gauges for A-10C
Thick8 replied to ClearDark's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've not read all the pages of this post. I did read where it is possible to export gauges to another computer. Is it possible to import button presses from that networked PC? Basically have a Gadroc's type touchscreen monitor hooked to a remote computer so as not to crush the framerate of the main computer. John -
Wanted: A few good men to test new A-10C coop mission
Thick8 replied to Bahger's topic in Multiplayer
I'm east coast and fly in the evening. I've had the A-10c for about a month now. I've done all the training missions and have been practicing bomb runs, SAM aquisition (they usually win), and some AtoA vs choppers. I'd love to give it a go. Let me know. John
